Magic. Dark, dark, magic. It was what gave the citizens of Equestria dangerous powers: strange new forms and magic for all. Many called it a gift. Of course, in some languages, 'gift' means 'poison'.

This is my story, how as a former earth pony, I found myself overcome by the new powers and how I lost control.

Many of you might know me as the simple Trickster Mage. Or, you might know me as the stealthy Shadow Blade Assassin I once was. Or am. That line of reality is rather thin.

But, personally, I prefer the name Pinkie Pie.

My Little Mages-Pinkamena's Story

Prologue

Twilight Sparkle clenched her fists, staff in one hand. "We don't have to do this, Pinkie," she roared, eyes brimming with fury and tears. "W-we can end this!"

I, the real, sane-ish, me, gaped at the Arcane Mage. Twilight Sparkle the Magical. My best friend. Her worst enemy. My vision unwillingly turned red with bloodlust. A fierce blue aura of magic seeped from my body. I wanted to shout to her, beg her to forgive me, say something of my own free will. To stop this madness.

Oh, but this is what you wanted, isn't it Pinkie?

I mentally screamed with annoyance and frustration. "Get out. Get out, get out, get out! You're more annoying than Discord, and not half as fun! You, you, meanie! No wonder you're so lonely, you can't make friends because you're too horrible!" Of course, she took my mental rage with a grain of salt.

The snide voice continued, snarling now. All this. You're more powerful than that Twilight, aren't you? And it's all thanks to me, Pinkamena. Don't you remember me? I used to be top pony, before you. Shut. Me. Down! With that stupid Rainbow Dash's stupid rainbow! Pinkamena's voice hissed on Dashie's name. Then, her voice became giddy, the kind of glee that sends shivers down your spine, the kind of glee that no being, mage nor pony, not even an assassin, should possess. I got my revenge, all right. Just look around; everything you love will be gone, including your precious friends. They're unconsious, half-dead. And you can't help them! Pinkamena let out a mental cackle, the one that would make Nightmare Moon cower in a corner had she heard.

Except for pesky Twilight. So I'll leave with a parting gift. Or poison. Gift means poison, you know.

Pinkamena's spirit lifted my hand up, and a shot of blue magic hit Twilight square in the chest. She fell back, and with a thud, she was out like a stone. Dark red blood trickled from underneath Twilight's purple hair. Pinkamena simply giggled, making me toss shards of a broken mask in the air. Ta-ta, dear Pinkie! As her spirit was shoved to the darker recesses of my mind, my pink hair puffed up and my eyes lossed it's hollow gaze. I was in full control of my body now. Sighing, I picked up the now whole mask, flicked it up in the air, and it disapeared in a soft flash. I gazed around the demolished throne room, saw my half-dead friends, and wept.

So, let's go back a bit...
