Previous ChapterExplain please
The two of them walked out of Lunas bedroom and started walking twards the cafateria for Lunas dinner and Celestias breakfast. Celestia
"So who is she Lulu?" could tell that Luna was exhusted, but she needed answers.
"Wow, jumping right into it, huh Tia?" Luna teased while looking behind her to the bedroom, witch only made Celestia more curious.
"Yes. First you start acting weird, then you need solar guards for a secret project, then a filly shows up out of no where." She explained with more then a hint of concern in her voice.
"I'll explain everything during our meal. I need to figure out how to explain the past events."
"Very well. You have until they kitchens bring out our food."
"Thank you Tia." Sighing in relief, she had a few more minutes to figure it out. "Should I tell her everything, or just the important part. Should I explain her talent, or let her show Tia? What am I thinking, of course I'm going to let her just show her." Laughing a little at what happened with her, she has to wonder how Celestia would react. "Ok, I'll explain what I can, but I don't know If I should explain certain things. I guess I'll figure it out as I'm explaining."
"Luna, food is here. Now explain."
"When did that happen? Weren't we just walking a minute ago?"
"You zoned out again."
"Oh, sorry, I have a lot on my mind."
"I understand. Now please? The longer you put it off, the more confused you are going to make yourself" Celestia explained with a small chuckle, knowing Luna a little too well.
"She calls herself Night Lotus, although I have a feeling that isn't her real name. I saw her last week in the everfree forest. I managed to save her from a hydra. Unfortunately she had disappeared while I chased it away. Four days later, the guards I sent out on a search party managed to find her, and she was brought here and taken care of. She was in a comatose state for a while though. I met her in her dream, and she refused to tell me anything of major importance outside of how she received her injuries. That happened the night I found her originally. The hydra had hurt her by throwing her into a tree. Outside of that I don't know about her past, but there must be a reason she doesn't want anypony to find out who she is. Later that night we were talking with the night chief who mentioned that Night reminded him a lot about one of your guards kids. He said that he and his wife had gotten into a fight and he was kicked out. He hadn't seen his daughter in years."
Closing her eyes to take in all the information, she took a deep breath, but remained silent for a few moments. "That, is very interesting. It reminds me of...."
"I know. That is why I was hesitant on bringing it up at first."
"Out of curiosity, why did you tell me about the conversation with the chief? A similarity won't help us figure out who she is."
"I agree entirely. The reason I told you is because after we finished talking, she knew which soldier he was talking about. Out of your hundreds of guards, what is the likelihood? She attempted to explain that she heard other kids talking about him in her hometown, normally that would be very believable, but why would they talk about that one in particular. Honestly, I'm not even sure who he is."
"So you think there is a connection? Perhaps she is related to him, but what if she was being truthful, and it was just filly talk?"
"She is a night pony like me." Luna explained trying not to get to lost in thought. "If she spends her time awake at night, when would she be capable of making friends her age who would know about solar guards?" Explaining her method of thinking was helping her try to put things together herself. It was like a giant puzzle, and to find the pieces, you had to solve a riddle.
"Perhaps we should find this guard and ask about his daughter?"
"Yes, we just started eating, so maybe if he could be summoned quickly?"
"I wasn't thinking right now, but I suppose it would be best. The quicker we figure out this puzzle, the better. What is his name?" Celestia asked taking a sip from her apple cider.
"Shimmer Steel."
"Shimmer Steel? He is one of my top guards, and if I remember correctly he lives in the barracks." Looking the direction of the two guards who stood guard while the princesses ate she spoke up "Can you summon Shimmer Steel please? He should be in the Solar barracks." Both guards saluted and left to go find him. "Is there anything else I should be aware of?"
"Not at this time, I told you everything I know." Accidently smirking Celestia knew Luna was holding something back. She never was good at lying.
"I know that's not everything, but I suppose you will tell me when you feel the moment is right." Celestia told her sighing. After all this time, and she still keeps secrets from her, but this was a very confusing time so she let her slide.
"I won't, but she will."
Before Celestia could reply back, the guards came back with Shimmer Steel."
"Come sit with us Lt. Steel" with that command he walked over nervously and sat next to Celestia.
"Thank you princesses" The chief noticed the new arrival and a plate of food was in front of him in less then a minute. "Did I do something wrong?"
Celestia looked at him with a gentle smile. "No of course not. You are one of my top guards., we just had needed to talk to you for a moment."
"About what?" Steel asked now that his anxiety was finally calming down.
Luna spoke up this time "We were curious about your daughter." she replied with a warm smile that allowed his anxiety to calm down a little more.
"Oh. Alright then, what did you want to know?"
"We were wondering her name, and perhaps if you had a picture of her." Celestia replied. Knowing him, Celestia knew that being straight forward like that was the best way to approach it.
"Her name is Cosmic Light. I find it ironic because she looks more like a Sun Lilly in my opinion." He replied chuckling a little. He pulled out a picture to show them. The filly was as white as Celestia with a gray mane and tail, and no cutie mark. She did have the same body shape and similar mane cut as Night Lotus. "She is very shy, but she likes watching the stars, and she loves reading." He continued putting the picture back away in his armor. "I haven't seen her in a few years, so she most likely has changed. I don't really keep in touch with her mother."
"She sounds like a very unique girl." Luna told him, but in her mind, she was comparing the similarities. It was almost as if they were twins. "If you don't mind me asking, what split you and your wife up? You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, I know it's personal."
"We split up because we wanted two different things. I wanted to stay here and help protect the princess and everypony else. Unfortunately because I would be away so long, Cosmic Light had to stay with her mother who wanted to travel. To find a new city." He explained
Noticing the guard getting upset Celestia spoke up. "Thank you, I know this can't be easy for you Steel."
"If you don't mind me asking, why did you want to know about my wife and daughter?" Luna explained how they found a filly that was very similar to his daughter and was trying to learn new ways to get her to open up, and maybe return her to her family if she had one. After giving her a few suggestions he hoped would help, he finished eating, then got up to go back to the barracks. He had to get ready for his shift."
"Lt. Steel?" Celestia said trotting up to meet him for a privet conversation
"Yes Princess Celestia?"
"Why don't you take today off. I was wondering if you might be able to make a list for my sister. With Night Lotus so similar to Cosmic Light, you would know better then my sister how to handle her."
"Of course princess, but I can do the list after my shift."
"I would hope it would be ready before she wakes up tonight. Besides, you work hard, a day off can be good for you."
"Yes, thank you princess." With that he was off.
"What did you say to him Tia?" Luna asked curiously
"You'll see when you wake up." She replied with a "I know something you don't know" grin that she only let Luna see. "Why don't you go get some sleep. You have been up for days." Agreeing Luna said good day and went to bed. Night Lotus was still sound asleep, but as soon as Luna got into bed she shifted in so she could snuggle with her like a foal with her mother and making Luna smile.
"I'm going to help you. I promise" She whispered before drifting off to sleep.
Celestia was in the middle of day court and decided to take a break for some lunch. She was just about to leave when she heard a knock at the door. "Enter" she called out.
"Princess I have that list for you, if you want to look over it."
"Oh thank you Lt. I'll be sure to give it to her. Did you enjoy your day off?"
"Yes princess, it was actually nice for once. I don't remember the last time I had a day off. Also if you need help with the filly at all, just let me know. I'll be more then willing to help." He said with a warm smile as memories of his daughter came back.
"I will be sure to keep that in mind. Thank you."
"No need to thank me." They both walked out together, Shimmer Steel to go take a nap, and Celestia to get lunch. Although in the back of Steels mind, he was wondering what made them think of his daughter.
Luna stirred as someone knocked on the door. Careful not to wake Night Lotus she got up gently and opened the door. "Yes?"
"Princess Luna, my apologies for waking you but Princess Celestia asked for us to wake you so you wouldn't sleep all night." The Solar guard answered
"Night?" It was then Luna noticed it was night. "Did Celestia raise the moon in my place?"
"Yes princess, but as I quote "You can do those stupid stars. This past year they always change on me and it is her job anyways."
Laughing Luna realized that Night must have done that. "Yes very well. Thank you."
"She also asked for you and the filly to meet her for your meal when you have finished."
"Actually could you ask her to come to my room? I have something she needs to see." She said with a mischievous smile.
"Of course" and the guard left.
Luna walked up to the bed and watched the filly for a moment. She looked so peaceful sleeping there, with not a care In the world. "Night Lotus? Sweetie it's time to wake up" Luna said softly placing a hoof on her shoulder
"Hmmm, Oh hello princess. What's going on?"
"It's time to wake up."
"Good night" Cosmic told her while stretching and giving Luna a hug trying to wake up some. She might be a filly, but she was acting like a teenager.
"Good night, Night. Do you still want to show my sister your talent?"
"Yes, hopefully she won't freeze up like you. Although it would be funny if she did." Cosmic light said trying not to laugh at the memory.
"I will admit that would be amusing" Luna said trying not to laugh like a school filly pulling a prank herself. "She will be here any moment. After we need to get you cleaned up, and then go and get food. Sound good?"
"Yes princess, thank you."
Both jumped slightly when they heard a knock on the door. "Lulu it's me."
"Enter Sister. You arrived faster then I would have thought."
"I actually took my time. You must have just gotten lost talking." Celestia explained smiling a little as she thought "Maybe this filly would be good for Luna, if she stays around for a little longer." Shaking her head Celestia finally asked "So why did you want me to come to your room?"
"Night Lotus has something to show you." She explained trying not to show her "I know something, you don't know" grin.
Luna looked over to the filly and noticed she had gone pale and was slightly shaking. She knew the filly was scared, but would calm down a lot after she had shown Tia her talent. "It's alright Night. You don't have to show her if you don't want to right now." Knowing that she was going to no matter what., that filly was as stubborn as Rainbow Dash when being challenged.
"No, I want to" Trying to not let fear seep into her voice, she got out of the bed and slowly walked over to the princesses by the door.
The three of them went out to the balcony and Luna kneeled down to whisper to Night. "I'll do the first five, and then you take over. See how long it takes before she realizes. Stand behind us, and keep going as long as possible." Nodding in agreement, she backed up slightly so she would be just barely in Celestia peripheral vision. Starting to charge her horn Luna took it as a sign she was ready to go. "This is going to be fun"
"What is going to be fun?" Celestia asked very confused at what was going on.
"Just watch." She started arranging the starts. First star was done, the second star, third, fourth, and lastly fifth. With that done she got the sixth one moving to help the filly, and she took over. Celestia watched the starts, and it wasn't until Cosmic light had finished her fourth star, that Celestia noticed something off. The stars where slightly shaking.
"Are you alright Luna?" Looking over she noticed her sisters horn wasn't glowing. It was then she looked behind to a smiling filly. Barely putting two and two together before her world went black.
"Tia? TIA!" Luna called out trying to wake a unconscious Celestia.
Cosmic fell in exhaustion before running over to check on Celestia. "Is she going to be ok?"
"Yes. I'm going to move her to my bed until she wakes up. It shouldn't be too long, and in the mean time you need a bath before we go and get something to eat."
"Ok princess. Who will finish the stars though?"
"I will. I have a spell that will allow them to arrange themselves. I do not like doing it because they don't always do it correctly, and Celestia calls it cheating, but I think under these circumstances it will be alright." With that Luna cast her spell and the picked up Celestia in her aura and carried her to her bed. After getting her comfortable they went to Lunas bathroom. She filled up the bathtub about a quarter of the way with warm water. It was the perfect amount for the filly, maybe even a little too much. Lifting her into the water Cosmic started laughing. "What's so funny?"
"I was secretly hoping she would have a reaction similar to yours, but this was even better." Cosmic explained giggling.
"I agree, that was priceless. I never would have imagined she would faint like that." Luna said trying not to laugh as the memory came back. "Do you think we over did it, showing her like that?"
"No princess, that was a perfect plan. Although can it just be the two of you who know? I don't want it getting around that I have this talent." Not trying to sound like she was begging to keep her talent secret, she tried her best to sound like she just thought it was easier, and not that is would cause a lot of trouble for her, and the princesses.
"Of course. I won't tell anypony unless you want them to know, and I will make sure my sister is aware of this also."
"Thank you." With that Luna picked up a brush and started washing the filly. She knew that she was more then capable, but Night seemed to enjoy being treated like a filly, so Luna didn't mind. It was actually quite relaxing for Luna, she hadn't done something like this since a while before he banishment.
Cosmic just relaxed, it wasn't often that someone took care of her like this, and she enjoyed it a little more then she should have. "I've had to act like a adult for so long, and keep so many secrets, I should just enjoy being a filly for once, because I don't know when a opportunity like this will come again." Luna rinsed her off and used a towel to dry her off. Going back into the bedroom they noticed Celestia shifting a little.
"It seems like she if finally waking up. Perfect timing." Luna walked over to Celestia as she opened her eyes and Cosmic just stayed there, not wanting to get in the way. "About time you woke up" she teased her sister by pulling the blankets over her head.
Memories of what happened started flooding in. "How can a filly move the stars? How can anypony move the stars? I've, I've never heard of any talent like that, except for yours. Is it only the stars? Can she move other celestial bodies?" Starting to hyperventilate slightly amused Luna. It was a very rare sight to see.
"Your not going to faint on me again, are you Tia?"
"No, I'm alright."
"Good, and I do not know how she does it. I found out last night, but she must have a lot of built up magic."
"Agreed, not even Cadence and Twilight have that much energy stored up inside. It shouldn't be possible?"
"Agreed. That is enough of this for now. Oh, before I forget, she asked us not to tell anypony."
"That is for the best." Celestia agreed. This was a very powerful filly, and if the wrong people found out, it could put her in danger. "Is there anything I can do?"
"Can you brush Nights mane and tail? I need a quick bath before we go get our meal."
"Of course." With that Luna walked over to Cosmic light who was standing on the other side of the room.
"My sister is going to brush your mane while I take a quick bath. Is that alright? After we will get food., you must be starving."
"Yes princess, enjoy your bath. Is there anything I can do for you in the meantime?"
"Just stay out of trouble. Also stop calling me princess, just call me Luna." Looking up to Luna with a big smile, Cosmic hugged her before going over to Celestia.
Celestia secretly wanted to brush Night, thinking back to all those times she helped Twilight. "How are you tonight?"
"I'm good. How are you feeling?"
"I'm good. Out of curiosity, when did you learn about your talent?
"About a year ago." Cosmic explained after having to take a moment to think. It had been a long year.
"Wait, are you the one who moves the stars on me? It just started happening around a year ago. I always suspected Luna of doing it, but she always denied it." Leaning down to look Cosmic in the eye with a "Yeah I figured it out" look in her eyes.
"Yes, I'm sorry, but a few were always off. I wasn't trying to be mean, or rude. I was just trying to make it look al little nicer." After that Celestia nuzzled Cosmic the way a mother would her child, before finishing brushing her. A minute later Luna came out.
"Are you hungry?" Luna asked the filly while finishing brushing her own mane. Nodding, but looking like she didn't really want to admit it, Luna picked Cosmic up and put her on her back. "Let's go then."
Thinking to herself "Maybe they really can help me. Is it worth it though? I should at least tell them my real name." Lost in though she didn't even notice that she was starting to fall asleep again.
Celestia and Luna just smiled at her. "Lets get some food in her before she falls back asleep on us. It's going to be a long day."
"Think she would like a cup of coffee?" Luna asked without thinking
Celestias' glare told her all she needed to know.
