(Little Rock, Missouri, 1918)

My name is Jaylen Jared Scotterian and I was born and raised on a farm owned by my family for generations since the Westward Expansion. My parents and I worked hard to get some money for the crops we grew like potatoes, corn, carrots, and tomatoes. I started working in the fields until I was 6 and that was when my little brother was born, Torian James Scotterian. But since Im working out in the field, I didnt have many opportunities for him to see me nor could I see him.

2 years later, Our crops and water supplies were beginning to decline and won`t be able to get some until next year, so I headed to a library to get some information about agriculture or a way to save ourselves from losing a valuable product to the economy, but what I found would change my life forever, a book in a dark section of the library containing information about dark magic, which I was hooked on and began to read it later that night.

Once I reached a spell and saw an incantation about beings that can help solve problems easily, I had a chance to save our family`s farm and read the incantation.

"Heed this call that I shall say and save me from my dismay, Give me answers to my need and let these creatures help me."

With that a portal-like opening appeared on my wall and these shadow creatures began rushing out and stood on the wall. I was quite afraid but if these creatures can save my farm, then I`m willing to trust them.

"Hello, I wish for your help, the crops are beginning to die and water is running low, I want to help my family make money, is there anything you can do?"

They all began looking at each other before they nodded in agreement before grabbing my hand`s shadow and shaking it and I can feel the shaking, and right there is when I learned that they can control shadows and to our eyes it will seem like a ghost. After shaking my hand in agreement, they leapt out the window and into the field and into the night.

I didn`t see them again, but the next morning, they left a writing on the wall which said.

"Thank you, for releasing us, friend we are still here and always will be."

I then looked outside and saw our crops looking healthy and the water was back at normal levels. Since then I had friends and I appreciated what they did for me and my family, But when I told my Mother and Father, they were shocked, but not in a good way. I showed them the book and they were filled with horror.

"You`ve been using dark magic?" My mother gasped in shock.

"Yeah but-"

Son, you don`t realize what forces you could be tampering with, and the doors you could open, but never close." Dad pointed out.

"We need to get rid of these creatures and destroy that book!" My mother shouted as I was beginning to feel anger and sadness.

"NO, they are my friends and they helped us by restoring our crops, So they are staying!" I interjected, but only to feel a hard slap across my face from my Dad and sent my glasses into my baby, brother`s room. My cheek stung as tears ran down my face as I ran up into my room.

I grabbed my book and as I did, my parents came in and were about to take the book from me, but my friends appeared on the wall and startled them, which gave me time to get away and ran away from home. My parents called and urged me to come back, but they fell silent as I got further away and my friends followed me as I traveled to wherever I was going.

*25 years later*

I was alone, but my friends were always by my side, I was in an abandoned house in Oklahoma where I lived off of eating buffalo and the water from the Canadian River. I was upset that my parents tried to take away my book and friends and I was still mad at them to this day.

But one night I was awoken by the sound of a portal being formed by my friends. The portal formed and showed a icy environment that appeared to be a blizzard. I looked on and saw a dark stallion with a curved red horn, red cape, silver armor, a crown, black flowing mane and tail, green eyes with red pupils and purple flowing mist from his eyes.

I was unsure, but I theorized that the shadow creatures knew this unicorn, but I was not sure that it would be able to communicate with me, So I gave it a shot anyway.

"Who are you and what do you want?"

"I am King Sombra, The master of shadows, and I`m here to make an offer to you." He replied.

"What kind of offer?"

"Your shadow friends are friends of mine and told me about you and your life from the moment you released them, From the point where you ran away, I decided to help you, I can teach you my ways of dark magic and become the most powerful being as I, but I also require assistance to conquer Equestria by taking out the Princesses, Element Bearers, and that human warrior, Torian." Sombra explained as I thought about this.

Torian was in Equestria and I never really got a chance to meet him, but if I go with Sombra, then I`ll have to face him, But becoming powerful sounded promising, the years of struggle I went through growing up, where I had no money or job, but this was my chance to escape it all and rule with a being who can grant me everything I ever wanted.

"So what do you say?" Sombra offered his hoof.

"You have a deal Sombra." I said as I grabbed his hoof and we went into Equestria, leaving behind all my sufferage and closer to my goal of power and a chance to become one of the greats.
