My name is Warming Hearth, but people usually call me Warmin, for short. I lived an average life with an average family, but that all changed once I had entered Canterlot High. I was just a timid colt in the midst of many ponies who we're bigger and stronger than me, but it was nothing surprising. During the first days I was alone, coming from a private school in Appleloosa, I had no friends, and wasn't very good at making them either. One normal day, I was speeding through the hallways, bobbing through waves of pones when, suddenly, I slammed head first into a grey mass, the force of the impact knocking me down. "Watch where you're going, pisshead!" A strange stallion was standing over me, eyes covered by pitch black shades, wearing an intimidating leather jacket. Having read enough stories to see where this was going I brace myself for the worst. (Just make it quick...) Nothing happens. I slowly open one eye to see the guy - smirking? Not to mention way too close. "Alright, since you bumped into me like an idiot, you better find a way to pay up, quick. What's your name?"
"It's Warmin, can I go please? I don't want to be late."
He frowns, and says, "Fine, but remember: you owe me."
I was late to class that day.
The next day was filled with fear, watching every corner of the hallways for the jacket-clad stallion. I did not want to know how he was going to make me pay. Classes end without incident until suddenly, I'm pulled into a dark room from behind.
"NOOO PLEASE NOT LIKE-nmrghrgh!!!" The scarf that was previously wrapped comfortably around my neck had been forced into my mouth, blocking any noise from escaping.
"Dude, chill, It's just me," I look back to see the grey pony from the hallway. "Now don't start screaming once I let go, got that?" I nod, and he releases me. I immediately and turn around, catching my breath.
"What do you want!?"
"You're a unicorn right?"
"Yeah."
"So you can do magic, right?"
"Uh... Yeah?"
"Alright, then I got a job for you," He pulls out an old grandpa guitar with a nasty dent in the back, placing it in front of me. "I need you to fix this. 'Somebody' ran into me and ruined it!" I take a closer look at the guitar, seeing the extent of the damage I caused.
"I've never used magic for something like this before, are you sure you want me to try?" He gets a bit annoyed,
"Look, you did it, you fix it." *Gulp!* I had no idea where to start, then again I did see my father fix a bass before, pretty much the same thing right? I focus on the guitar, willing it to be renewed. A magic blast zaps the guitar, blinding us in the process.
"Did it work?" I look down to see... OH NO. NO NO NO NO NO! That is not the guitar I was trying to fix!
"MY GUITAR! WHAT DID YOU DO!?"
Simply put, it was no longer a old fashioned grandpa guitar. It was a bass with too many strings. I was done for, there was no getting out of this one. I look up at the stallion that was about to be my doom and see him, smiling?
"Dude, this thing looks wicked! How did you do that?"
"Umm, magic?" I was as surprised as he was.
"Alright, before I let you off, let me check if it's not useless." He fiddles around with the guitar, plucking strings and moving knobs, until he waves me over. "Well, it's not broken anymore, but this thing needs an amp. Got anything in that horn of yours?" I nod, and cast an amplification spell on the instrument, something that I was good at. The stallion began to play, simple at first, but slowly it became better, and better, until I was in awe at the shredding that was being displayed in front of my eyes. Such dexterity, such speed, but the sound, oh Celestia the sound was like that of purity, and created a feeling of power in my soul. I could do nothing but let my magic be absorbed into the guitar. I kept it going until inevitably I lost concentration and the sound died. I look up, seeing the grinning stallion looking at the state I was in. He had one word.
"Brutal."
And that was how I met Logan, the strange grey earth pony who would be my friend for the next four years.
