Twilight walked over to Spike's old bed, which she always wanted beside her to keep him safe.
She levitated it with her unicorn magic, and in a fit of frustration threw it across the room, breaking it from it's old design.
She sat, sobbing with her head on her bed.
"Spike, why did you have to go?"
She never felt this bad except when her best friends died.... Even if it was over
100 years later, Twilight, being an immortal alicorn, would live longer then her friends, much to her not believing this. She assumed Spike would live longer because he was a dragon, but not as long as she thought. After she had she calmed herself down, she noticed she had made a portrait oh her wall crooked from smashing the bed into the wall.
The portrait of all of her friends.
She straightened it out as she heard a knock upon her door.
"Princess Twilight? Your sister has come to visit you."
"Let Cadence in", she replied.
Princess Cadence opened her door, walking in nervously, upon seeing the small, tattered bed.
She ran over and hugged Twilight, letting her cry once more, feeling that she needed to let it all out.
After about five minutes of sobbing and sniffling, she thought to herself when Pinkie Pie had made a comment on how Apple Jack cried on the inside... Except from her tears of joy seeing her younger sister AppleBloom in her Grand Galloping Gala dress. She giggled almost at the thought of it.
"Oh, Twilight it's alright.
I came to bring you a gift from Princess Celestia.
She thought it would be better, to help you cope."
Princess Cadence took a large, dusty wooden box from her saddle bag, Twilight's cutiemark imprinted on it.
Puzzled, Twilight's magical aura took the place of cadence's, as she set the box on the bed and opened it.
Inside were piles of letters, and an old worn book under them.
She started scanning through the letters, realizing they were the ones her friends had written to princess Celestia.
She set the torn letters carefully into the box and opened the book.
Loose pages dropped out.
"Hm?" she thought, very puzzled, the symbol on the book being too faded to recognize.
She picked up the loose pages, scanning through them.
Some of the letters were hard to read, and one even being only half a page.
She read off the names of which who signed them as her friends' editions to "The Royal Pony Sister's" book.
She read what she could, struggling not to shed a tear at them all, fearing the letters would turn to dust because of there state.
On the very bottom of the box was a small note: "Friendship is magic.
And it is the only magic I need."
(Epilogue)
"Twilight? where are we going?"
Twilight didn't answer Cadence's question, galloping to a small private cemetery behind the castle, carrying the letters and book with her magic.
She wasn't sure what she was doing, but she felt that the cemetery was calling to her, and she couldn't resist.
She stopped at the only gravestones, waiting for at least something to happen.
Cadence assumed she was going to have another meltdown, so she walked back to the castle to give her space, and letting Twilight catch her breath.
Twilight gasped as the six gravestones started to make noises.
Not creaking or cracking, more of, giggling, and talking.
She could even slightly hear the giggles of Pinkie Pie.
As she stepped closer, she could see small silhouettes.
And when she got closer, she saw colourful shadows.
One for each stone.
Pink for Pinkie Pie's, a soft yellow for Fluttershy, a baby-blue for Rainbow Dash, A light-Gray for Rarity, an Orange for AppleJack, and a smaller green one, assumingly for Spike.
Most ponies was perceive them as phantoms, or even ghost silhouettes, but Twilight pressed on, fascinated by all of it.
"Howdy, there, Twilight!
We sure missed you!"
"A-apple Jack?" She spoke, running faster to the orange light, not expecting the color to speak.
"Of course, sugar cube!
Who else do ya know who would be in mah spot?"
Twilight stepped closer, to see an almost transparent AppleJack standing next to her stone, looking like she had when she had first met her.
Twilight ran over and hugged her, Applejack feeling her warm embrace.
"Wow, Twilight, you sure got tall!" Applejack giving a light giggle.
Twilight was almost on the verge of tears, Applejack wiping them away.
''Now, Twilight, you know I only cry on the inside, don't have me start now." Twilight giggle at this false statement.
She waked to the other gravestones, only to see her other friends in a transparent state.
"Oh, hello darling, it's been quite some time."
"Woohoo!
It's Twilight! I told you she would visit, Rainbow!"
"Yeah yeah, Pinkie Pinkie, fine."
''Oh, girls, please don't bicker... Not in-front of Twilight."
Twilight was so happy to hear their voices, to see them, to even hug them.
"How, how did you-?"
Twilight felt a tap on her leg, only to see Spike trying to get her attention.
She picked up the now-babydragon and hugged him tight.
"Twilight, I want you to know."
"Yes, Spike?"
"I gave Celestia the note I assume you found, I was hoping she would get it to you....
I wrote it there because I knew you would come here.
So you could see us."
Twilight looked at her her friends, letting herself cry all of the joy out.
then starting sobbing mourn-fully.
"Oh, darling... What is it?"
"I-I I want you all back, Rarity! I want all of you back!" She screamed.
Rarity hugged her, gathering the other four to come for a small group hug.
"Darling, you know we can't..."
"It's okay, Twilight!" Pinkie butted in, letting Rarity continue.
You can see all of us whenever you want.
You're the Princess of friendship, and we're apart of that."
"We never really left, sugarcube, we've been here all this time"
"S-so I can see you whenever I want?" She asked, hopefully.
"Yes, darling, anytime you wish."
Twilight opened the case for all of them to see, showing them what they wrote, giggling at all the memories they had with each other, until the cold evening started to set in, and Twilight began to get cold.
There were teary goodnight's and heartfelt hugs.
And as the shimmering rainbow colours faded, Twilight felt light, and more heart-felt walking back to her castle.
