When the clock of time stops for you, and you don't know how to get it back running, you get an inevitable result.....DEATH. Spike's POV. May 5th, 1504 4:12PM ''Detective Sparkle'' A voice I know far too well. ''Night, I'm your friend, not your boss, call me Spike or Consultant.'' Lacitus Nightstroke, age 20, a friend of college, also a detective. ''There's been a murder, and we are the detectives assigned to the case.'' 'Wh-Where?' I asked, trying to look strong, but I was both pale and transparent. ''Don't worry, it's not that bad, once you get a few cases under your belt the fear and the sudden sickness stops.'' ''Eeeghh, can I call a friend of mine, an investigative partner?'' ''You're gonna call your ex?'' He said as he turned on the car and I went in, he immediately put the foot down on the gas, speeding up hugely. "Well, yes. How come you have never learned her name, or seen her anyhow?" "Well.. I don't really want to, since I'm dating someone right now." Lacitus said "So you think she is gonna be pretty?" I laughed. Well in truth, Dash was pretty. But I had a new girlfriend. "Do you want to get back with her?" Night asked. "No." ''Where?'' I asked. ''Mare and 19th.'' Two months ago we had a little altercation, Dash and I at the shooting range. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Two months earlier. Rainbow Dash's POV. March 22nd, 1504. 2:26 PM I was at the shooting range, with Spike. I honestly thought he was just going to fire a few guns and we would leave. The sound made me sick. ''Rainbow Dash, stall 18, Spike Sparkle, stall 15.'' The guard said. ''Spike, you know how I hate shooting.'' He just laughed cheekily.''Beat me, girl.'' I got 11 out of 15 shots, probably not enough for a detective, although I am not one, and don't want to be one. He however got 15 out of 15 shots. Goddamnit, he's good at shooting. ''So, Rainbow, how's it feel to get beaten'' He said with a cocky grin. ''PRETTY AWFUL CONSIDERING I GOT BEATEN BY SOMEONE 2 YEARS YOUNGER THAN ME.'' I practically yelled. I then realized I had fallen into his trap. ''For Celestia's sake, keep your voice down will you? There was an awkward silence between us. Dash, wait in the car.'' I sighed, and quietly waited outside in Spike's car. Back then we were dating. I wanted a relationship with Spike but it was obvious he wanted Rarity, I saw that and broke up with him the subsequent week. We agreed it was best for us. Back to the present 4:33PM Rainbow Dash's POV I was alone in Cloudsdale watching over the weather. My phone, which actually looked more like a stupid walkie-talkie ringed, I picked up the call. ''Hello, Rainbow.. Can you come to the Mare and 19th to investigate a case?..... Don't come if you don't want.'' Before I could even say a letter, he hanged up the call in a hurry. ''Might as well do something useful today.'' I thought. After a short flying session, 6 or 8 minutes tops, I arrived. Since Spike's car was nowhere to be seen I went in. ''Out of the crime scene, Mistress.'' The detective said. ''Miss, Sir. I am the investigative partner of Consultant Spike.'' ''Oh, you must be Rainbow Dash!''The detective said, with a slip of the tongue, before saying with a cocky grin: ''Spike, your girlfriend is here'' while laughing. ''Shut up, we broke up six or seven weeks ago now." ''Let her in.''He said, sternly. I did realize Spike's friend called me a chick but to be honest, I didn't care. ''The victim is Stana Bloomcake, age 26, cause of death was loss of blood by stabbing, most likely with a knife, the first who saw her dead was her sister Tori, age 22.'' Said Spike. ''When was the time of death according to forensics, Spike?'' I asked with a mix of emotions between sadness, fear and anxiety. ''5 to 5:30 AM this mo- morning.''Spike said, quite shakily, despite his best efforts to look calm. I knew we were in for a ride. What if Spike figured us out? I had to silence Spike. I had to kill Spike. An Investigation DisguisedCase 1: Murder in Canterlot: Investigation Part 2 Spike's POV May 5th, 1504 4:53 PM "Have we got any leads, Spike?" Asked Night, anxious for solving the case already. "Well that depends. "I have Rainbow Dash talking to any possible witnesses, including Tori." I said. "What about forensics? Have they found any prints or DNA?" I asked, quietly thinking. "Yes. We have already apprehended a preliminary suspect." He said. "She's at the precinct." He repeated. "Her hoofprints were found in the murder weapon, a 19 cm kitchen knife. Index, thumb and middle finger" "Why haven't I been informed of this?" I asked. Bad coordination. I guess. "But we haven't investigated yet... Who's the suspect?" I said looking rather amazed, confused and a mix at the same time. "I haven't been informed of her name." After a few seconds of silence, he spoke up again. "I'll investigate here. You two go to the precinct." "A-Okay, Night!" Said Rainbow Dash, it was almost impossible to guess we were at a crime scene with her cheery attitude. "How do you know my name?" "Oh, Spike talks about you, he says you're good at the job." She replied, laughing it off. "Rainbow, why are you being such a discount Pinkie Pie?" I asked, grinning. Rainbow growled at me like a bear before quietly chuckling, which then grew to a laugh, and then a full grin. "Let's go to the precinct, we have a murder to solve!" I said, quickly grabbing the keys of Lacitus's car and rushing outside, practically. Spike's POV May 5th, 1504 5:07 PM "We're close, Rainbow" I said. "O-Okay" She said, with a tremble in her voice. It was obvious she was one of the strong type, But investigating crime scenes was obviously not her strong-suit. When we got to the precinct, the pony that stood in the detention center was the least likely of them all. "THEY APPREHENDED FUCKING TWILIGHT?" Rainbow said, majorly freaking out, she had reason to, but I still don't think that was the most mature response she could have said. Still, She could have freaked out less. But it's freaking Rainbow Dash we're talking about. "By the looks of things, yes they did." I said.. Trying to calm myself and Rainbow Dash with one sentence. This miserably failed for the latter. "Bailiff.. When can we see Princess Twi- the prisoner?" I asked. "Visiting hours are done, come tomorrow 10AM, Detective." He responded. *sigh* I went storming off the detention center. Raging away. Someone I considered my "big sister" had been framed for murder. "Where are we going, Spike?" Rainbow said, collected again. "I don't know, my flat or maybe the crime scene." I was really too sad and anxious and mad and a mix of sour feelings. "Well, we have no use in investigating now, since the lab and pretty much the whole Criminalistics is closed at 5 PM. And sadly, it was 5:13 PM. "I'll go to my flat then." I sighed I needed to call someone. I needed to speak with someone. Rarity. I needed her so bad right there. As for how we actually got a relationship... Spike's POV Three weeks ago. April 15th, 1504. 6:30 PM 6:30 PM. Rarity told me she wanted to talk to me in person. "Be punctual" she said. "Reservations for two, under the name of Spike Sparkle?" The lazy waitress/ reservation checker had something of a bubbly personality. Almost if she was drunk. "O-oh, yeeeeeah your table's over theeeere." She said, enlargening the e's, like a legit diva. This annoyed me to hell. "Go inside." She said. . "Oh no, I'm waiting for my companion." I loved that word to describe our relationship, although I hoped today, or sometime it turned into couple. "So, your girlfrieeeeeend?" "None of your business" I said, while blushing. She arrived. I was surprised to see now I was about half an inch taller than her. Despite only a few years ago being just over half her size only. "You're late, it's 6:33." I said, with cheeky humor. "Hah, Spike, you know it is very ungentlemanly to tell people they're late." I felt like a boy being reprimanded. "But it's also unladylike to be late when you tell somepony, or in this case somedragon to be punctual."She replied. After that, we went in, silence, well, the people talking' noises were the only thing heard. When the waitress came, we ordered a bottle of red wine, but what I found myself curious about was.. The way I asked for it. "A bottle of red wine for me and this charming young lady" I said, silently chuckling until the smile was so big I couldn't keep my claws in my mouth. I noticed she was blushing, but I decided to pass it off like I didn't notice. I tried to break the awkward silence between us by asking her: "So why did you call me here, Rarity?" "I have two reasons. First one is because I missed you and you're so cu- *ahem* good-looking." I blushed, and I had reason to. "The second one is because I wanted to tell you what I feel before I move to Manehattan." "You're moving to Manehattan?" I didn't know. Those were newsflashes for me back then. "But before I moved I wanted to have a night with all seven of us. At first I thought of inviting all the girls but then I figured.. I should tell you.. Alone." Her voice started to crack. "I wanted you to know.." She leaned closer to me. "I've loved you ever since you held me captive but I never built up the coura-" She was cut off. By some lips. My lips. After we both pulled back, she said, with a naughty grin. "It's very ungentlemanly of you to cut people off!" After that she gave me a playful, yet soft slap in the face. "All that matters is now, Rarity" After all, I'm only 3 years younger than her, the memories of when I held her captive flashed me back, though. "That was a really uneventful day, wasn't it?" We both said, and instantly laughed as we realized we had said the same thing. It was a soothingly calming feeling. The mare I loved the most was there, kissing me. I felt like I was in pretty much heaven. We had a wonderful night, after that I walked with her to the now mostly empty boutique. "I'll help you tomorrow morning to pack." I said. "I've had an amazing night, Spike." Rarity said, making me blush a deep, crimson red. "I've had an amazing mare tonight, Rarity" I replied, making her blush a shade that I didn't even know was possible. A week after that she had to move, she said she was going to visit us every now and then. But I'm going to surprise her once this case is over and go visit her. "I need to visit her. I need to see her. I need to be with her." I kept thinking. After that, I realized being a detective was very stressful at best. I noticed I was freaking out, but I really needed to be with Rarity. It was something like an insane need. It was a complicated feeling, I needed her so bad. Things Getting PersonalCase 1: Murder in Canterlot: Investigation Part 3 Spike's POV May 6th, 1504 9:22 AM I was still quietly sleeping at the time. Dreaming about, in a cliché way, Rarity. It seems like this is one of those romance movies that are so bad they're not even funny. Anyways. I felt someone pushing me inside my bed, and I think I mumbled the worst thing I could have ever mumbled. Ever. "Daaash, if you're in bed get out. I told you I didn't want to sleep with you." The mare trying to wake me up had a giant giggle before I was shook again, this time so violently I snapped into consciousness. "Well hello my Spikey-Wikey. " My eyes widened in shock to see someone I really didn't expect I really, really didn't expect. "Rarity? What are you doing here? I thought you moved to Manehattan" I said as I got up, rapidly getting changed, brushing my teeth, putting my detective's firearm, jacket and well, suit and general. "Yeah, it was a long drive. Two and a half hours in fact." I couldn't believe the answer. "You drove two and a half hours just to see me?!" I was still in shock. "Of course! Because I love you!" I leant into a quick, yet passionate kiss, which was ironically mint-flavored because of the toothpaste. "How long are you visiting?" I asked. "A week. I decided to visit you on such short notice because in May and June work starts doubling because of movie sets wanting fashion designer costumes, so even if I tried to visit you in the next 2 or 3 months I couldn't because of work." I just gave a quick "Oooh." to that response before leaning in for another, now longer and more lustful kiss. I heard a giggle from the other side of the room."Dash? You're spying on us?" I said, before watching a cyan mare come out of the closet, giggling, chuckling and doing whatever she could to suppress the giant grin on her face. "Rarity, Twilight's was detained and is being held in the detention center." I said. "WHAT?!.. Oh sorry I mean what?" She said, before all of us laughed a bit, before getting serious again. "Indeed, she was framed for murder." Rainbow said. "Lacitus found the murder weapon, with several hoofprints of Twilight." I said. "We have to go to the crime scene and find proof that Twilight was framed." I said again. "Wanna come?" Dash asked, a very simple question. "Oh, yes. I want to catch the killer. I want to see him go to jail." Rarity said, with a look of greed in her eyes, a look of revenge. "Quickly, we must get to the detention center as quickly as possible, too." I said. Then I realized we should go to the detention center first. Having my ex and my current in the same room felt weird. It's just how things work out, I guess. Twilight's POV Detention Center 16th Precinct May 6th, 1504 9:47 AM I was sitting in my bed, a guard came in. "Princess, why did you do this crime?" "I didn't, Mister, I was framed." "Look, the detectives trust you, but there was a piece of evidence with your hoofprints on it. The murder weapon." He continued. "A detective found it, he said sticking in the corpse, but since the autopsy reported death was by loss of blood, not internal hemorraghing and the weapon was supposedly still on the corpse, it would have been impossible to die from loss of blood with the weapon inside the body. So either the autopsy is lying, or the detective is lying." "Seems someone remembers his police training." I said, chuckling. "Oh, also. The body was discovered at 7 AM so it was impossible the weapon was taken out after she was dead. In other words, she was stabbed, her knife was pulled out, and the killer just left her to die." "What is the name of this detective?" "L..." *BANG* The guard opened his mouth, but before he could speak a word he was struck from behind. The assailant then brung out his gun and held me at point blank range. I saw his Detective's badge. Then I realized. That detective was the killer. "I'm sorry Princess Twilight, but I must get rid of some witnesses to have the perfect crime." But then a voice came from behind, he armed his gun at the Detective. "Not so fast, Nightstroke." "SPIKE?!!!" I said in amazement and amusement. BulletsCase 1: Murder in Canterlot: Investigation Part 4;Finale Spike's POV May 6th, 1504 9:57 AM The air was tense. There was a feeling of uncertainty between Twilight, Rainbow, Rarity, me and Lacitus. I really hoped in some way the assailant wasn't Lacitus. Although I full-well knew he was. "Not so fast, Night!" I said, realizing he had Twilight with a gun to her head. I loaded my gun. "You know I don't want to shoot you, Night. Just unload the gun and drop it." I said, shaking. Rarity was right behind me. "No, you know you can't shoot me. You're just too loyal of a friend to me." He said, with a grin. "But you win, he repeated." He unloaded his gun and let Twilight go away. But there was a problem. He reloaded the gun and ran. But he didn't run for me, oh no. "RARITY!" My eyes widened in shock. "Let me go or I blow her brains off." Rarity cried, yelled and cried even more. "Never." I said, right after that I shot a warning shot to the cell Twilight was in, careful not to hit Twilight, or another prisoner with the bullet. "Ju-just let me go you demented asshole" Rarity said, gulping and yelling. "Drop her and I don't shoot you." I said, taking a gulp of courage. That morning was fateful, because it was the day that my police training worked for something. I shot him. He didn't die, and I didn't want him to die; As a detective, my job is to imprison the culprit, not kill them, so shooting is the last resort detectives have against criminals. But the next second, I wanted him to die. He took out his gun and with the last of his power he shot me. He missed me. But he hit someone else. Someone close to me. Someone dear to me. Someone I couldn't loose. Twilight's POV Twilight's Castle May 6th, 1504 2:36 PM So it is true. The detective that was in my home really just took my kitchen knife? That's a bold-headed criminal for something. And he did subsequently frame me, just that he didn't remember there was someone else on the case. Nightstroke knew, if he killed me then there would have been no turning back. He would have had to kill Rarity, Rainbow Dash and Spike, because Spike would have realized Nightstroke was the killer and told Rainbow and Rarity before he died, anyway. Basically, my conclusion is Spike knew from the very beginning and he just wanted to confirm his suspicions, even if he did so at the most amazing timing ever. Rarity got shot, she was admitted into emergency surgery four hours ago, and she still hasn't awoken. Doctors say when she awakes she will probably be dizzy, because she lost a lot of blood. Doctors said that immediately after she awakes, we shouldn't talk to her and instead we should let her rest. Spike and Rainbow Dash were sitting right beside me. "Twilight." Spike said. "Yes, Spike?" I asked. With a frown plastered all over my face. "You know I knew right, Twilight?" He said, continuing. "My brightness failed me in the moment that mattered most." "Twilight, I feel like it's my fault. I know it's fucking Nightstroke's, but I feel it's my fault." "I wasn't there when she needed me, after all." He finished. "Spike. Do you know why I fell in love with you? Because you're strong. You are very mature in moments of these when in matters the most, even if we're not a couple anymore, that trait still shows on you. If you aren't strong then no one can be strong." Rainbow said, sobbing at the end. "You know I always act like I'm so big and awesome and huge, but deep inside, I know I'm the small one: Pinkie has more than enough money to throw a party every three days drinks included for like ten years. Well of course you can't drink yet but that's out of the topic. Rarity runs and manages successfully a boutique. Twilight is fucking princess. PRINCESS. Fluttershy can talk to animals and Applejack runs her own farm for fuck's sake. All I could do nine months ago was fly in a straight line and crash into Twilight's window. But then I asked you out and when you said yes, I felt like I was the most awesome mare in the world. I broke up with you though. And you wanna know why? There were two reasons. The first one was the one I always give you, the excuse that you wanted Rarity instead of me. And it served as an amazing excuse for the past 5 or 6 weeks. But deep inside, the reason was I felt like you deserved more than just me. I fell into a deep depression and even almost hanged myself. By the time that I got the courage to tell you that I wanted to start again in our relationship, news got to me Rarity and you started dating. I built up so much resentment for Rarity..." Rainbow said, starting to trail off at the end. I was shocked at the mind-bogginglingly large reply that she had given Spike. She had fallen into a deep, deep depression without us even knowing. "You hired Lacitus to kill Rarity, didn't you, Dash?" Spike said. "Yes.. I did." Rainbow Dash said. "Yes, it all makes sense at the end." "How much did you pay him? He asked. "60 Grand" She said. But I agreed to pay him after the deed was done. "Wait, doesn't that mean he will try to kill her by any means?" I asked. "Well, yes. But he has to escape a dozen or so of armed men in his room and a dozen more in Rarity's." Spike said, chuckling. "You see, Twilight. When Nightstroke was wounded from my gunshot, he purposely aimed at Rarity and not at me." "It was then I realized that the one who hired had to be among us. You see if that wasn't the case, then there would be no motive for the murder. Basically, everyone except us 4 had either an alibi or no motive. A quick logic thinking reveals Twilight was in jail by the time of the agreement. A security camera footage near Sugarcube Corner revealed Rainbow and Nightstroke talking at 3 am. At first I thought Rainbow was gonna be a victim, so I thought of making a Witness Protection order, but then I thought over the evidence again and I realized Rainbow had to be the killer, since I wasn't. "That is some master deduction skills, Spike!" I said overflowing with joy. But then I thought over. "But wait, where does Stana fit in in all of of this?" I asked. "She doesn't." Spike said. "But then why did Nightstroke kill her?" I asked If he wasn't hired to kill Stana, then he had a personal motive. "A quick background check in Stana's bank account reveals she owed about 1.5 million bits to an account. An account by the name of you guessed it, Lacitus Nightstroke." "Six years ago, Stana started to get on drugs. Four years ago, she met a provider by the name of Night. By then, she was on the edge of bankruptcy. In four years she managed to make a debt of 1.5 million bits to that provider, and a check on her email reveals a threat sent three months ago. "Stana. You have three months to pay me. If you don't, then you will die. I'm sorry, but you have to pay me in cash, and you have three months only so get the money as quick as you can." The threat said. "She started cooking Methamphetamine, we found a meth lab as we searched the place. She had gotten 1.2 million bits already. A security camera reveals Night going in at approximately 4:55 AM, at 5:12 AM, a loud gunshot was heard and at 5:16 AM, he went out of the building." "Wait.. A gunshot?" I asked. "Wasn't she stabbed to death?" "Yes, she was." "As you would notice, from the fact my dear marefriend is still alive, we concluded that the bullet had missed, and we were correct. We found the bullet in Stana's room. Plunged 15 inches into the wall." "He shot her, missed and, then stabbed her." "Oh, Rainbow, I am sorry, but you are under arrest for the attempted murder of Rarity Belle. You have right to remain silent until your lawyer comes." Spike said, with a disappointed look in his eyes. LoveCase 1: Murder in Canterlot: Chapter 5 Three days later.. Spike's POV. May 9th 1504 Canterlot General Hospital 4:22 AM It had been 66 hours since Rarity had been shot. 66 long hours, every hour longer than the last. I couldn't sleep. I was just too worried. That and the fact the guest chairs were uncomfortable. She had woken up yesterday, and had been resting since then, so today when she woke up would be a good time to talk. Twilight had been by my side, but had to return to her castle a couple days ago. I just wanted not to worry, I knew Rarity would be fine. But minutes became hours, hours became days. That was the only time I could have talked to her in 66 long hours, and in such a tragic way. I had lost two of my best friends today, and a gunshot by someone I considered my best friend, or at least close to that almost cost the life of the one I loved the most. I couldn't shake the thought off my head, the thought that I couldn't protect Rarity when she needed it the most. Then I heard a loud noise.. "Rarity?" I said. "Spike?" Rarity said, with a shocked look in her eyes. She got up her bed and slowly walked over to me and gave me a kiss. Her waist was stitched a lot, 15-20 stitches, in fact. The bullet went through her whole waist and landed on a backbone. The procedure went fine. But it tore me up to see her so badly scarred. "Does it hurt?" I said. "It does, but what hurts me most is I know who was the real to-be-murderer. The mastermind behind the plan." "So you read the case file I gave you?" I said. "I can't believe Dash would do something like that." Rarity said, trying to formulate an answer to her own question. "I know.. But I think there's more to this case than just that, Rares." "I know.." She said. Before starting over again. "Even if she still had feelings for you, why did she try to murder me? She wouldn't get your love. Actually, she would actually just get hate. What if Nightstroke wasn't the one who shot me? It would have been easy to fire from behind then hide behind a wall, wouldn't it have been?" She said. "That is impossible. We already analyzed the bullet that shot through you. It came from Nightstroke's gun." "Why did Dash not do the deed herself?" Rarity asked me. "Well, I have a theory. A theory that Dash was trying to set Nightstroke up." "If we review the evidence then we see Dash paid the bits in actual cash, instead of through a bank transaction. In other means, there would be no record of she ever hiring Nightstroke. She would be free, and Nightstroke would be not, and even if Nightstroke said he was set-up, no one would believe him because they considered he was just another dirty criminal. Ironically, Dash would be the one to be the final witness, since Nightstroke would have said it was a set-up. He would have pleaded guilty, but also incriminated Dash." "This means.." Rarity said. "That Dash would have had a perfect crime had you died, ironically, yes." I said, frowning at the irony of the last statement. "Had she committed the crime and not gone for such a rookie shooter, then Dash would have made the perfect crime." "Well, that's luck, I guess. He tried committing two crimes with a gun. The first crime he outright missed and then said fuck it and threw the gun away and stabbed her. That crime was a success. Well for him, not for us." Rarity said, before repeating "The second crime, had you not been there then.. Lacitus would have probably killed me." Rarity said, a first time. Before repeating. "Had you not been there, Lacitus would have probably killed me." A second time. She burst into tears. I got up into her bed, and hugged her. Before kissing her in the head. "I won't let anyone harm you, Rarity!" I said, before exploding in tears, too. "I can't let you die! I need you! You are the sunshine in me.. You are.. L'amour de ma vie!" I said, with emotion. "So I am the love of your life?" Rarity said, chuckling in midst-tears. At this point I couldn't tell if we were crying due to sadness or due to happiness. "Well, you, darling, are my life." A Hectic MorningSomething has gone wrong. We don't seem to have an archived copy of that chapter.
PrologueCase 1: Murder in Canterlot: Investigation Part 1 The clock of time always runs.
"Well, you, darling, are my life."
