It was an overcasting, muggy day as Summer dragged her hooves up to her normal spot, where she always sat when she was going to talk. Not with a friend, nor an acquaintance, or even a pony in general. Each week, she would sit behind a building of sorts, she never had looked at the name, and talked with a white wall.
She had been having a rotten day, and wasn't expecting this wall to make things any better, but, she had promised the wall she would come back next week and talk to it again, like she had done very week for the past year. She could barley remember that day; all she remembered was watching over her little sister, Solar, as she played tag with some of her friends in their backyard. She looked up and noticed she was a half a foot away from her spot.
The moment she reach the wall and sat down, she greeted the wall. It said it's name was 'Blaze'; she wasn't sure how a wall got a name, or how it had a voice, even. She puzzled that out each time she walked back home, but didn't come up with anything; she eventually figured she was slowly going crazy. She didn't want anypony to know.
"Summer? Is that you?" The wall asked, she had told it her name only last week. "Oh, thank goodness your here! I was starting to worry!" It sounded frenzied, more anxious than normal. Summer cocked her head, curious to know why.
"Blaze? Are you OK?" She asked, trying to keep the depression out of her voice. "You sound really anxious."
"Oh, yes, I'm fine. I just had a run-in with some officers." He chuckled nervously. "What cha gunna do?"
Summer wondered what Blaze meant by this statement. "Now, why would a police officer ever run into you?" She puzzled, "did a criminal run by you, or something?"
There was silence for a while on the wall's end, as if it was trying to figure something out. Eventually, it spoke. "A criminal? I guess everypony here can be considered a 'criminal'," it took a deep breath. "We've all been through some crazy stuff, you know."
Summer was slightly taken aback at this. "I suppose so..." She mumbled; thunder boomed in the distance. "Today hasn't been the best day for me." As she continued, her voice took on a sadder tone.
'Blaze' was quiet again, perhaps it was having a rotten day, just like Summer. How a wall could have a bad day, she could never guess. "Whats wrong?" It finally asked.
"Well, first of all, I got splattered with paint during a stupid paintball war, and my friend had to hose me down." She bent her head and kicked a pebble away with her hoof. "While that was happening, a stupid dog decided to pee on me," she growled, then my friend started laughing so hard, she lost control of the hose and it hit me in the face."
Stalk silence.
"Go ahead, laugh!" She snapped. "Your not the only one!"
'Blaze' responded with a slight chuckle. "Calm down! Calm down! So we've all been through some rough times. What's so wrong with that?" It took a deep breath again. "It sounds like something else is bothering you. Something bigger than some paint, dog pee, and a hose to the face."
Summer nodded. "I'm going to move next week."
"Move?" Blaze asked; sounding befuddled. "Oh! Move. Ok, yeah, I get it, I think. Why are you moving?"
"A new company came in and bought out my family's. This is our last chat, Blaze." Rain began to tumble down Summer's back and mane, making her even more sad and angry.
"Last? C-chat?"
Summer nodded sadly again, "Yes, Blaze. I'm going to have to say goodbye to you now, it's raining out here."
What she just said caused the most silence out of any of their conversations by far. "Raining out there?" it asked, "how would you know? Your a wall!"
The moment those three words left Blaze's mouth, he knew he messed up. Summer the Wall could have felt the rain on it's back or something, who knows? The reply back was just as slow as his last message.
"A wall?" It asked. "I'm not a wall! I'm a unicorn! If anything, your a wall!" It sounded offended.
"Wait...how can a wall be a unicorn, as well?" Blaze asked, putting his hoof up to the superposed Summer. "And..." He hesitated. "Are you a girl? You sound like a girl."
"Blaze, I'm just a unicorn." Summer replied, "and, yes, I am a girl. I would have thought you knew that by now."
The red earth pony felt himself getting mad. "How was I supposed to know that?!" He yelled, "ALL I KNOW IS YOUR JUST. A. WALL!!"
The offer guarding his room peered in through the doorway. "Everything OK in here, Blaze?" The officer asked for the fourth time that day.
"Okay, Okay, clearly, we both have some explaining to do." Summer said. "I'll meet you back here tomorrow, OK?"
"Yeah, everything good." Blaze smiled weakly. "Now, go back and guard me and...the...hot dog over thee..." He pointed to a corner where no hotdog lay, or anything else of that matter. He did that on purpose.
"Right..." The officer responded, nodding slowly. "I'll do that." He went back to his post, gently shutting the door behind him; shooting Blaze a nervous look all the while.
He turned back to the so-called talking wall; he had given up the hope that Summer was talking wall the moment she said she's meet him back there tomorrow. "Summer? You still there?" He asked. No reply.
"Summer?"
Nothing.
He sighed and laid down on the pure white floor, letting loose yet another nervous chuckle. "Alright then," he said, 'I'll just wait here for you." He sighed again. "Until...tomorrow..."
