If there was ever a truer thing that could be said for a morning in Equestria, with the sun burning bright and the birds chirping their sweet tunes, it was that Twilight Sparkle never started her day off without being as happy as could be. No matter what had happened the day prior and no matter how poor its results on her being were, she woke up the next day feeling completely refreshed and vigorous. And so this thing was true once more, as Twilight Sparkle suddenly opened her eyes and allowed the morning beams to blind her vision.
Only slightly cringing in the form of a hoof held up to block the intruder, Twilight soon chuckled to nopony but herself as the realization dawned on her in its slow way. Lighting her horn and throwing her covers off, she looked toward her floor and slid off the top of her bed. Landing on—thankfully—all four hooves, she shook her head with a grin and sucked in a breath of fresh new air. Her smile deepening to the point of reaching both ears, the Alicorn worked her magic once more to fix her bed to perfect position.
Done in a matter of seconds, her sight swept from one side of the room to the other, and lo and behold caught the sound of somepony's snoring. She giggled, knowing full well who it was thanks to the monstrous proportions of said snoring. Not even chainsaws could rival Spike after a night of comic books, donuts, and visits to Rarity. Trotting up to the poor dragon, she tilted her head and watched his posture, suddenly noticing the quill nestled inside two of his claws. Twilight hummed a quick note, looking over at the polished wooden desk he was sitting at. Though not able to see everything that was there thanks to Spike's head currently lodged atop it like a dog on a lap, she made out what appeared to be some kind of letter addressed to somepony.
Her eyes went up to look for the usual Dear whoever, but found nothing.
Oh. Wait.
There was something there. She hadn't previously seen it thanks to the large drops of drool laid over it. Rolling her eyes with a snicker, she lit her horn and prepared to wipe it off. In a flash, Spike sat up on his stool, raised his quill, and scribbled all over the paper in an impressive display of speed that most likely would've made Rainbow Dash's jaw drop. Not able to see the paper now due to the flurry of his writing claw, Twilight blinked and watched for two whole seconds until finally the young drake stopped, chest rising and falling rapidly as he panted.
Looking down at the letter, she found it completely filled out. Now realizing that the address was no longer spat on, Twilight found it again and gave off a sigh. She should've guessed. Though her exasperation caught Spike's attention, he didn't realize what exactly it was, and so looked up at Twilight with baggy eyes and a weak smile on his face. Blinking first his left eye and then his right, he flinched and said happily, "Oh! Hi Twilight! What are you doing up? Oh wait, what am I saying, you're always up at this time of night! Geez Spike, don't-"
He stopped once he slapped a hand to his head. Noticing Twilight's expression, he looked at the top of her head to find her horn glowing. He blinked. A purple aura surrounded a nearby curtain, and then drew back to allow a new influx of sunlight into the chambers, effectively blinding Spike and causing him to hiss like some kind of vampire. Wiping his eyes, he groaned, "Oh... I must've fell asleep while writing this letter..." Nipping audibly, he slowly gazed around the room only to end up at Twilight. "What time is it?"
Twilight smiled, suppressing a laugh as she hummed, "Um..." She turned to her left and found the clock.
Twelve in the afternoon.
Forty-seven minutes.
Tick.
Twenty seconds in.
"It's about in the afternoon. I guess I accidentally slept in today, huh? Hopefully I can make it up to Pinkie Pie for not showing up at Sugarcube Corner at eleven, and then Rainbow Dash for not meeting her there at eleven oh-five." Spike stretched his arms out, giving out a loud yawn that dwarfed dragons twice his age. Closing her eyes with a grin on her lips, she spoke, "I'm sure Rarity still needs you over at the Boutique today! If you want, I can make you some pancakes before you head out!"
"No thanks Twilight," Spike said, getting off his stool and plopping onto the ground, "I'm good. Remember what happened last time. The batter wasn't cooked all the way through, and I swear I found some of Owlowiscious' poop in there–"
Twilight rolled her eyes in a playful manner, a goofy smile on her face, "Oh, Spike, they weren't that bad. At least you had something that morning! I was up that night preparing a speech for Ponyville Elementary and I didn't even make myself anything!" Laughing at her past self's bad luck, she opened her eyes and expected to see Spike joining her. Instead, he stood still, a frown on his face and a claw at his rear. She flattened her lips.
"Twilight, can I go now?"
Twilight clicked her tongue against the roof of her mouth, dismissing an audible cluck that would've roused Fluttershy's chickens from their slumber. Smacking her lips together, she turned to Spike, gave him another eye roll, and replied, "Yes, you can go." The young dragon gave a quick words of thanks before simply running out the door, slamming it in his wake. As the silence—and her papers previously sitting atop the adjacent counter—filled the air of the room, Twilight gave a soft sigh and lit her horn, catching the falling sheets before they hit the ground below. Stacking them midair, she sorted them by alphabetical order and importance, made sure they were completely aligned, and placed them back onto the disturbed countertop. Satisfied with her work, Twilight began to hum a simple tune as she walked out of the room.
Stepping down the brilliantly illuminated hallway, Twilight felt for her magic and reached around for her mailbox waiting outside. Finding her way inside the box, she enveloped the entirety of its contents, shifted her focus, and teleported them into her house. Making sure that they had ended up where she wanted them to, Twilight trotted further down the corridor, smiled, and took an immediate left into her kitchen. Eyes half-lidded, she spotted the day's mail sitting on her kitchen table and averted her gaze as quickly as she could. It wasn't as if the letters would immobilize her on sight, of course. She laughed at the thought. Making herself a nice breakfast helped get her anticipated for whatever she had received for the hour, and so Twilight gave a gentle sigh and lit her horn once more, this time grasping for the cabinet above her head.
It swung open with ease...
...and promptly deposited what the mare was looking for onto the countertop below it.
