3:00 AM, Canterlot Emergency Room...
This was the worst feeling ever. I felt cold, very cold. My palms were sweaty, and my arms were very heavy. My knees were weak, and I was just sitting in that waiting room, waiting for one of the nurses to come get me. It was 3:00 in the morning, and instead of being in my bed sleeping, I was sitting in an emergency room, waiting for results. The thing is, I wasn't there for me. I was just as healthy as a head of broccoli, so why was I there? Why was I in that emergency room, sitting on a cold, metal bench, waiting for one of the nurses?
Several hours earlier...
I was dressed in a vampire costume, pouring several bags of fun-sized candy bars into a big bowl for children. It was October 31, Halloween night, and I was going to hand out some candy to the younger children who were trick-or-treating. It made me smile every time I saw little children trick-or-treating. It reminded me when I used to do it with my moms. Anyway, I had emptied the last bag into the bowl, before I heard someone behind me.
"Nonny!", a voice called. I turned around and saw my girlfriend, Pinkie Pie, dressed in a chicken costume. I don't think Pinkie has ever worn a scary costume on Halloween. I think she preferred funny ones.
"Wow, Sweetie Pie", I said, "You look... good".
"Thank you!", Pinkie said, kissing my cheek, "I'm gonna get so much candy this year!" I raised my eyebrow at her.
"You're going to trick-or-treat?", I asked.
"Uh-huh!", Pinkie proudly said.
"You're seventeen years old", I said, "Don't you think you're a bit old to be trick-or-treating?"
"Too old for free candy?!", Pinkie said, "Are you loco in the coco?!" I sighed and shook my head. Pinkie sure loved acting like a child, but I still loved her. "Ooh!" She reached into the candy bowl, but I slapped her hand multiple times before she could get any.
"These are for trick-or-treaters, Pinkie", I said, "You can go get your own". Pinkie pouted, which made me laugh.
"Fine", she said, "Oh, and can I borrow your car for tonight?"
"Pinkie, I told you a hundred times", I said, "It's not my car, it's ours. You don't have to ask me every time".
"I'm just asking, Nonny!", Pinkie said, playfully slugging my arm, "No need to drop your cupcakes!" I chuckled a bit. "OK, I'm gonna go now". I smiled and kissed her cheek.
"Alright, Sweetie Pie", I said, "Be careful".
"I will!", Pinkie said, "And if there's any leftover candy in that bowl when I get back, it's mine!" I chuckled again as Pinkie grabbed my car keys and dashed out the front door. I turned on the porch light and waited for trick-or-treaters.
Two hours later, only about a quarter of the candy in the bowl had been given out, and Pinkie had still been out trick-or-treating. I had tried calling her twice, but she didn't answer. She probably was having too much fun, so I held off for a little whole longer. That's when the doorbell rang again. I grabbed the bowl of candy and opened the door. Three little girls were there, each wearing special capes for their costumes.
"Trick-or-treat!", they simultaneously said.
"Hello Applebloom, Scootaloo, Sweetie Belle", I said, using my best Dracula voice, "How are we tonight?"
"Awesome!", Scootaloo said, "I'm getting more sugar than Sweetie Belle gets from Button Mash".
"Scootaloo!", Sweetie Belle said, "Can you stop saying that?!" I chuckled.
"Well, here you go", I said, dropping a piece of candy in each of their bags.
"Thanks, Mr. Bon-Heartstrings!", Applebloom said, "Oh, and Applejack said hi!"
"Well, tell her I said hi also", I said to the red-haired girl, "Have a Happy Halloween, girls". I closed the door and waited for the next trick-or-treater.
It was 12:00 AM, and I was starting to get a little worried. Pinkie still hadn't returned, and Halloween was over. I tried calling her phone over and over again, but each time, it would send me straight to voicemail. I sent several voicemail messages and she never responded to any of them. I was really hoping Pinkie would come back, because I was afraid something had happened to her. That's when someone began to knock on the door. I was confused a little, because I knew no one would trick-or-treat at midnight, but I was hoping it was Pinkie. I opened the door, only to see a police officer standing there.
"Anonymous Bon-Heartstrings?", he asked.
"Yes officer", I said, "What's going on?"
"Is it true that a woman by the name of Pinkamena Diane Pie lives here?", the officer asked.
"Yes", I said, "What's wrong?" He took his hat off and held it in his hand.
"I just came from a scene of a vehicle accident between Ms. Pie and a drunk driver", he said, "Ms. Pie has been escorted to the emergency room". I was so surprised that I dropped the bowl of candy, causing it to shatter to pieces.
"What?!", I yelled.
"I just came to inform you that she has not died, but if being hospitalized right now", the officer said.
"How long has she been in there?!", I screamed.
"Two hours", the officer said, "The accident happened two hours ago on Canterlot Bridge".
"And I'm just finding out about this now?!", I scream again, "That's my girlfriend, and you're just now telling me this when she's been in there for two hours?!"
"Anonymous, please calm down", the officer said, "I came here as quickly as I could. Now, your car has been totaled and is unable to be repaired. I apologize about this".
"Screw the fricken' car!", I yelled, "I need to see Pinkie now!"
"That's what I have come here for", the officer said, "I'll give you a ride". I quickly hopped in the officer's car and went to the emergency room.
I just sat there for three hours, waiting and waiting to be shown to my injured girlfriend. I didn't know what to do. My girlfriend, who I had been dating for seven years, was in the emergency room, and I wanted to see her very bad. I sat there, trying to keep myself awake, hoping one of the nurses would come out eventually. Soon, Nurse Redheart came out, looking right at me.
"Anonymous Bon-Heartstrings?", she asked. I quickly got of from the seat.
"I'm here!", I said, "How is she?!"
"Pinkamena is fine", Nurse Redheart said, "She has a very bruised trachea and her right femur has been broken in four places". I began to shake a little. "But she's still alive, and with a month or two of recovery and bed-rest, she should be alright". I nodded. "Now, follow me please". I followed Nurse Redheart into the hallway.
"Now", she said, whispering very low, "I didn't want to say this one in front of everyone else. Pinkamena has also become permanently incontinent as well".
"You mean...", I asked.
"Yes", she said, "She has lost all control of her bladder and bowels. She won't be able to feel when she needs to go, nor will she be able to 'hold it' anymore".
"Oh my god...", I said, tears coming to my eyes. Nurse Redheart pulled me into a hug and I cried into her white uniform.
"It's alright, Mr. Bon-Heartstrings", she said, "I know it sounds very tragic, but she is fine, I assure you. Would you like to go see her? She's awake".
I nodded as Nurse Redheart lead me into a hospital room where Pinkie was. She opened the door and allowed me in, closing the door behind us. There she was, laying in the bed, covered in bandages and casts. Several bruises and cuts were on her face, and I could see a knot growing out of the top of her head. Her nose has bloodstains underneath it, and she had a neck-brace wrapped around her neck. She was wearing a green hospital gown, which was the only thing covering her, and I could see a white diaper wrapped around her waist. Also, a very big cast was covering her entire leg, and her hands had bruises on them. I began to cry even harder, seeing her like that. It made me so sad.
"N... Non... Nonny?", Pinkie said very choppy.
"Sweetie Pie!", I said, grabbing her bruised hand, "What happened?!" Nurse Redheart answered for her.
"She was hit by an SUV full of drunk drivers", she said, "She was very lucky to have survived. No one in that SUV survived, but she was very lucky to have".
"Why did this have to happen?", I said, crying again, "Why?"
"N... Nonny...", Pinkie said, "It... not... your fault..."
"She's right", Nurse Redheart said, "She was the innocent one who was hit, and she did not have a drop of alcohol found in her blood".
"I...m... still... here", Pinkie said.
"Now, we need to go over more important matters", Nurse Redheart said, "Pinkamena's trachea is too bruised for her to consume solid foods. She can only have her meals through straws until it heals a little. And like I have previously stated, she must wear padding from now on, as her incontinence cannot be healed, so do you know how to perform a diaper change?" I shook my head. "Well, I can teach you once the time comes".
"Yes, Nurse Redheart", I said.
"Alright, she has been given a medicine that should put her to sleep in two minutes", Nurse Redheart said, "I'll give you some time to speak to her before then". She then wrapped a small sweatband with a speaker taped to it around Pinkie's bandaged neck. "This will allow her to speak without having to put stress on her trachea". She turned it on. "Pinkamena, would you please say hello?"
"Hello, Nurse Redheart", the speaker sounded. It worked.
"Well, go ahead", Nurse Redheart said. I knelt down next to my injured girlfriend.
"Sweetie Pie, are you alright?", I asked.
"I'm fine, Nonny", Pinkie said, "I'm just in a little bit of pain. Nonny, I didn't drink, I Pinkie Promise".
"I know, Pinkie", I said, "Nurse Redheart just told me your blood was clean. It wasn't your fault. It just hurts my heart to see you like this".
"Nonny...", Pinkie said, "Hold me, please. I wanna be held". I smiled and hugged her as gentle as I could, not trying to aggravate her injuries. "That feels nice, Nonny".
"I'm glad it does", I said. We hugged for a few seconds in silence.
"Nonny", Pinkie said, "Are you really gonna take care of me and... change my diapers?"
"Yes", I said, "I would do anything for you, my little Sweetie Pie. Only if you don't mind". Pinkie smiled.
"Need I remind you I caught you peeping on-", Pinkie said.
"Hey hey hey hey hey!", I said, cutting her off, "No need". Nurse Redheart giggled. "Anyway, yes. Once Nurse Redheart teaches me, I'll change you when you need it". Pinkie smiled and weakly gave me a kiss on my cheek.
"Thank you, Nonny", she said, "I didn't think you would. You can barely stand using the bathroom after me sometimes".
"Well, sure it sounds a little gross", I said, "But it's what I have to do to keep you healthy. I'd rather have an injured and incontinent girlfriend than a dead one". Pinkie giggled and gave me another kiss.
"About thirty seconds left, Ms. Pie", Nurse Redheart said. Pinkie gave a small yawn and her eyes started to close as she gave a few more words.
"Nonny, if you need any help or need to relax, go see my friend Twilight", she said, "She's a therapist, and since you're my friend, she won't charge you".
"OK, Sweetie Pie", I said, "I will".
"B... by the way...", Pinkie said, starting to tire out, "Was there... any candy... left in the... bowl?" I smiled.
"Yes", I said, "And it's all yours". Pinkie smiled as her eyes closed completely and her voice began to fade.
"I... lo... love you... Nonny...", she said. The medicine took effect at that point, as Pinkie finally passed out. Another tear crept out of my eye as I kissed her injured hand.
"I love you too, Sweetie Pie", I said, resting her hand back on the bed.
"Mr. Bon-Heartstrings...", Nurse Redheart said, "I'm afraid you must go now. Pinkamena needs to rest". I nodded as Nurse Redheart lead me out of the room. I turned around and looked at Pinkie one last time before the door closed, hoping Pinkie would be alright when she woke up.
