Welcome user. Today is September 1. It will be the centennial anniversary of the abidcation soon. I think that calls for a little history lesson.

Over two hundred years ago, Equestria was a land of peace and harmony, with multiple races working hand in hand to further develop civilization in ways they had not imagined previously. This continual struggle for improvement led to many technological breakthroughs by the less magically inclined inhabitants of the continent.

And then came the virally induced toxic allergy syndrome, or VITAS.

In a few short years, the majority of the magically inclined populous was dead – slain by the very trait that had set them apart. Little is known about the outbreak itself, but with the dramatic decrease of magic in the land, an age of darkness fell upon the races of Equestria. With their powers greatly weakened, the Royal Sisters of Equestria were no longer able to affect the sun and moon. Used to reliable weather patterns, the ponies of the continent suffered greatly as nature ran it's course.

As time went on, even the ponies turned towards technology to solve their problems, and once more the races of Equestria managed to achieve greatness through harmony – the Enlightenment. The ten greatest mega-corporations – providers of the technology which had come to be relied upon by all of Equestria – stepped up to take on the responsibilities of government, relieving Princesses Celestia and Luna of their royal burden.

To facilitate governance, the ten megacorps split Equestria amongst themselves. Since then, Equestria has continued to prosper under the leadership of these megacorps -
