A Tale for Another Time

The war was brutal for our kind, it’s hard to fight back against race that pretty much eats yours. I was but a foal when this chapter started, my name is Rain Bow, Crowned Princess of the Pegasus, my parents sent my friends and i to another time where this threat didn’t exist, where all our cities were sealed away. In order to seal this evil, a sacrificed would be need, that sacrifice was our family's lives; leaving us known as the lost 13, lost in time and space never to be seen again. However the reality is we eight are among you taken in by others who could pass for our parents in a land that is known here as Equestria.

Our story long forgotten, but the lost of our homeland isn’t.

Now a days I am known as Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy is my cousin Princess of the south, in our ancient home, Atiain Moon; Daring Doo a good friend of ours that in till we found her had no idea survived, Sunshine Doo, her brother Lance Doo we still haven’t found. Midnight Rose and Starlight Lily are twins but they lived in the north and west, their parents were living apart because of their jobs, both cousin of Fluttershy’s. Flash Sentry is actually a childhood friend of mine, Calteris Centry, his father was the general of the first division, there’s five divisions in total. we haven’t told her yet but Scootaloo is Flash’s little cousin, Rumble is in the same boat but because they were newborns during the war, their names never made it to the stories. Thunderlane, was once called Shade Cryst, the two brothers lived to the east with Aurora Star the 'Princess' of the east, really her father was a member of my parents counsel. Shappire Forest lived in the north, she was also my cousin, on my father’s side. Cloudsdale Showers is a boy from the west, I met him when the west fell. So many are still lost, there are days when it is hard you lying to yourself and everyone around you, because we aren’t needed as who we were. Our group is a painful reminder of the horrors that remain locked away and we hope it stays that way for a very long time.

Not everyone remembers, but I know that one day we will need to gather one last time, with memories fresh. I’ll never take the crown because the balance of Equestria is working just fine, not being queen is fine with me, I’m happy in Ponyville. I can marry whoever I want, be who I am; but if my people are in trouble.....I will do anything to ensure their happiness.

I’m the element of loyalty, though there are days I feel I shouldn’t be. Thunderlane often reminds me that I was loyal before I even moved to Ponyville. It's just a part of me, of who I was and who I am know.

Today is the anniversary, we all ended up here. We usually keep to ourselves, but today I couldn’t do that, Pinkie Pie has made it her mission to throw a party this year at AJ’s farm. If I don’t show she’ll never leave me alone, I was walking up to the barn when I saw Fluttershy being pushed by Pinkie. So I walked over to give Fluttershy a hand, “Pinkie, seen as we’re on the Apple Farm why not let her walk?”

“Because Dashie she won’t.” Fluttershy looked at me, a look of plea is what I call it, the same look I give her sometimes. I gave her my own look plead with her to go along with it, it was important to Pinkie so we may as well go, she sighed and stood up to walk on her own causing Pinkie to fall over. I shook my head and let my wings take me to the sky to head to the barn. The first thing I saw walking into the barn was a bright pink banner saying cheer up Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash. Too say it didn’t work was a understatement, I tried to smile I did but it was a little hard.
“Surprise!” it wasn’t just our closest friend but the other three princesses were there, along with cmc, shining armour, Flash, and the rest of the apple family. Pinkie who was behind us decided to speak up, “You two are always alone on the same day every year, so this year you're not alone.” I didn’t have to say anything to Pinkie, Fluttershy did.
“BECAUSE WE WANT TO BE ALONE, YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TODAY MEANS TO US. I JUST WANTED TO BE ALONE FOR TODAY BY MYSELF IN MY HOUSE AND YOU DRAGGED ME OUT HERE FOR A PARTY!” everyone except Flash and myself was....shocked? yeah shocked that’s a good word for it. Pinkie’s hair deflated “Pinkie you have no idea why today is so depressing.”

“But all the other pegasus are celebrating.”

“yeah because our survival was determined long ago but the festivities end at nightfall and everyone remembers the sacrifice that was made so we could be here. Not everyone celebrates today, besides I lost both families on today’s date.” Fluttershy left holding back tears, which lead to Pinkie look to me to see that I was cheered up. I sighed everyone seemed to have questions.
“Sorry today is just a day full of bad memories that nopony should have to remember.” I shivered as I remembered some of the war. I looked to the others, “sorry she lost it, normally she has it under control but she lost her foster parents 5 years ago.” with that I left the room as well, I heard a bit of the questions that Twilight was asking in an attempt to make sense of what had just happened because Equestrian history books don’t talk about the Pegasus homeland, or the war. I shook my head and found a rain cloud to rest on.

“Ms. Dash!?” I looked up at the sky, I’ve been up here a while it was noon when I got up here, it was sunset now. “Ms.Dash?!” I looked over my cloud to see Big Mac,
“call me Rainbow or Dash no ms.” he gave a small smile and nodded his head.
“C’mon done here so Ah don’t have to yell.” the fact alone that he said more than one word was a little shocking enough as it was, I wanted to see how much of a conversation I could get out of him so spread my wings and came down. we started to walk around with to real rhyme or destination “is something wrong?” I realized I had been staring at him the whole time.
“no what did you want to talk about?”

“Party’s still going on, Fluttershy came back a couple of hours ago. everyone’s look for ya.”

“oh” I was a little disappointed he didn’t just come looking for me, he is the most wanted stallion in ponyville, he started walking towards the barn and I followed, I felt bad I didn’t stick around for the party liked planned, but today’s the day we lost everything, it’s hard pretending everything is okay. sometimes having a pony to talk to is the best medicine my little rain drop, I could feel the tears welling up in my eyes it was one of the only things I could remember about my mom.
