Project Midnight Book Two-Betrayal
Betrayal Part 3
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThe reporter sat at her desk writing another collum for the daily newspaper while ignoring the noises flooding the office. Ink Well was a unicorn reporter from Maretropolis with deep blue colored hair and grey coat who decided to move to Canterlot in order to get away from the usual chaos of her hometown but sadly that wasn't the case. Her cutie mark was an inkwell, hence her name.
"Great. First I have to deal with a team of six super heroes-well five super heroes and one sidekick-and now I gotta do an interview with some prince playing hero at night!" She grumbled to herself as her boss burst into the room, papers flying everywhere.
"INK WELL!! Get your flank down to Canterlot Castle pronto! We need that interview!! AND SOMEBODY GET ME MY COFFE!! SWEET CELESTIAS SUN!!!" Her boss; Paper White. A large white earth pony the size of Big Mac was going on his usual rampage about the office.
"On it boss!" Ink Well shouted as she grabbed her coat and camera. Back at the castle, Midnight was in another training session with his father at the castle courtyard with the usual crowd of nobles watching.
"HYAAH!!"
"Mind your guard." Nova instructed, parrying the various attacks with a wooden sword before knocking Midnight off his feet.
"Again!"
"HRR!!" Like always. Midnight grew furious whenever his father beat him and his attacks began to grow sloppy as his father forced him into a lock.
"Calm yourself son, remember: Purpose not passion." Nova shoved him back a ways before going back into a defensive stance. Midnight heeded his fathers words and took a deep breath. He took a wide stance, preparing to charge once more.
"Now...COME AT ME!!" Nova dared the prince with a confident smile as Midnight went on the attack. His attacks this time were more precise and his reaction to Novas attacks were quick and it seemed like victory was his but at the last moment Nova spotted an opening and quickly disarmed the prince. Winning the duel.
The crowd applauded at the princes effort as his father helped him to his feet. Midnight was out of breath and drenched in sweat like every training session he had with his father.
"You came close son." Nova praised him, handing over a towel before ruffling his mane.
"Dad!" His son complained while his father chuckled, wrapping an arm around him. The two were headed to the barracks for some breakfast with the other guards and while it was not proper for royals to dine in such a way Nova and Midnight preferred the cafeteria food to the usual cuisine served by the royal chef.
"There ya go boys! Veggie stew and a loaf o bread."
"Thanks Gruel." Nova nodded to the chef, taking the bowls of stew to the table. In spite of his name, Gruels cooking was the best among the castle chefs and provided Midnight breakfast, lunch and dinner when he was younger. As the two enjoyed their meal, a member of Celestia's personal guard marched into the dining hall towards the prince.
"Forgive me sire but a reporter is here to see your son. An "Ink Well"?"
"Ah yes. The Dark Knight Incident, that's what they're calling you by the way."
"Dark Knight? That sounds like a cheesy comic book hero. Can't you tell her I have to reschedule?"
"I've tried my prince but she is very, VERY-!!"
"Hi there."
"Persistent...." The guard clenched his teeth, very annoyed by the mare who had trailed him to the barracks.
"Ink Well I presume?" The prince asked, cleaning his face off.
"Prince Midnight if I could just have a moment of your time?"
"Uh dad?"
"I can handle today's errands. You go ahead."
With a quick shrug of his shoulders, Midnight lead the reporter towards the guest quarters while she did the interview. A tape recorder and note pad were set up on a small table.
"Now regarding last nights events. What were you doing out so late anyway?"
"Well being a bat pony I'm used to staying up late."
"I see." She jotted down a few notes, continuing the interview.
"Now I heard that one of the thieves said you used hypnotism to trick him into letting go of his hostage."
"It was the night atmosphere playing tricks. We bat ponies are kind of intimidating." He stated as he fanned out his wings and gave a somewhat creepy grin that showed his teeth.
"Yeah I guess you're right. And for the final question: What is your relationship with the daughter of Fancy Pants?" The question ignited a pink blush in Midnights cheeks.
"Uh r-relationship?!? We-we're just good friends that's all!"
"Uh huh. Story of my life." Ink Well looked like she knew he was going to say that as she stopped the recording and packed up.
"Well thanks for the interview. I don't know if this'll make front page news though."
"Sorry I couldn't give you more information." The prince apologized as he opened the door for her. Ink Well gave an impressed smirk, seeing his manners.
"Hey. If you ever think about doing this whole crime fighting as a daily routine you should talk to some friends of mine in Maretropolis. They could use someone with your skills." That was the last thing the mare said as the door closed behind her.
Meanwhile, At the Maretropolis maximum security prison. A large cell laid blasted open from the inside, the guards who had been standing watch were tangled up in what appeared to be threads of green hair. The warden in charge of the facility quickly called for a full lock down of the prison, repeating the same phrase over and over.
"THE MANE-IAC HAS ESCAPED!! I REPEAT!! THE MANE-IAC HAS ESCAPED!!
