Project Midnight Book Two-Betrayal

"OWW!!!" Midnight cried out as the bandages tightened around his wings. His mother had to use her magic to hold him down.

"Now honey don't be so fussy." Luna scolded as the nurse applied more ointment.

"But mom this REALLY hurts!!" He whined like a three year old as the torture continued.

"That's what you get for ripping your wings like that."

"AHHH!!!!"

"And~. DONE!"

"Thank you Nurse Redheart, Doctor."

"Have a nice day your majesties." The doctor packed his bag, waving goodbye while Luna helped her son on the bed before tucking him in.

"Mom I'm too old to be tucked in."

"Nonsense. You're never too old to be tucked in by your mother." Luna then kissed him on the forehead before looking at him with a sad expression.

"Mom what's wrong?"

"Hm? Oh it's nothing dear just....I can't believe you've grown so much." She said sounding disappointed when the door gave a slight creak as two ponies peeked inside.

"Can we come in now mommy?" Nidra asked holding a bouquet of flowers.

"Of course! Come in sweetie." Luna opened the door as she ran to her brothers bedside while Nova greeted his wife with a kiss.

"And how's our hero?" He asked pulling up a chair, letting Nidra sit on his lap.

"Doc says I'll be out in a few weeks...maybe more and that'll give me plenty of time to think."

"About what son?"

"You know dad." He looked right at his father just as it hit him.

"I see. Wallers offer. You still interested?"

"Maybe...I don't know! What do you guys think I should do?"

"Well son to be honest. This has to be your choice and yours alone."

"And whatever decision you make, we'll support but for now just rest." Luna said with a smile, brushing some hair away from his face. Nidra gave her brother a quick snuggle before running out the door, Nova simply nodded with a proud smile as Luna turned off the lights. While the prince rested, trouble was brewing in Maretropolis.

Waller; The mysterious mare who appeared at Nidras birthday was inspecting the cell that once held Mane-iac. The cell was made of solid steel that had been surging with ten thousand volts of electricity but the cell looked like it had been ripped into.

"Whatcha got for me boys?"

"Several fingerprints ma'am. But um..."

"But what?"

"Well the prints...they're as thick as a tree branch." The scientist investigating the crime scene showed the scans. A look of fear appeared on Wallers face.

"It's him. Alright ponies pack it up! We're done here."

"Yes Ma'am!"

As her team cleared the room, Waller turned to the large hole in the cell that lead to Mane-iacs escape. Only one thought came to mind.

"I want a flight to Canterlot in three days."

Three days later. Midnight had made an astonishing recovery, the cuts and bruises on his body were fully healed with no scarring and the webbing in his wings looked like they were brand new. Needless to say, the doctors and nurses were baffled but to be on the safe side they ordered the prince to take a few days off from any stressful activities, including office work. However, unlike his cousin Blueblood he didn't like the idea of lazing about.

"But mom there's gotta be SOMETHING I can do." Midnight was in another argument with Luna as they headed towards the throne room.

"Sweetheart I know you want to help but you heard the doctors: No work for a whole week!"

"But I need to be out there helping! I can't just sit here!"

"I know how you feel Midnight believe me but you're young and you deserve to have some time to yourself." She gave a quick kiss to the cheek, calming him down.

"Now please sweetie. No more fighting?"

"Sigh Okay mom." He said in defeat, knowing he couldn't win an argument with his mother.

"Such a good boy. Now why don't you go for a stroll around town, it'll be good for you." Luna entered the throne room once he understood how concerned she was.

Taking his mothers advice, Midnight flew towards the city to stretch his wings and much to his surprise. A lot of ponies came up asking for an autograph or to take a picture.

"What is with these ponies?"

"That's what happens when you take down one of Equestrias most wanted criminals." Midnight turned around to see Waller standing amongst the crowd as they began to disperse.

"Miss Waller. What brings you back to Canterlot?"

"Trouble I'm afraid. We need your help."

"Why me?"

"Because we just found out that Mane-iacs partner is back in Maretropolis."

"....Sorry can't help you, docs orders." Midnight walked off, giving his answer but Waller could tell he was eager to get back into the action.

"And why should that stop you?" She asked him, halting him in his tracks.

"When your sister was in danger did you stay there frozen in fear? No! You took action! you faced down a criminal so dangerous that she even threatened to kill her and when you beat that criminal down you could've ended her right then and there but you didn't! Care to tell me why?"

Feeling insulted by her question, the prince turned around and looked at her face to face.

"Because I had no right to make that call! I am a prince of the royal family and with that comes responsibilities, one of which is not only making the laws for our society but following them as an example for the people. True I could've killed Mane-iac on the spot especially after threatening my sister but in the end I'd end up being something else for them to fear; Just another hot shot who thinks they can do whatever they want just cause they have the power."

A smug look appeared on the mares face knowing she had him right where she wanted him.

"Well then what're you waiting for kid? The next flight to Maretropolis leaves in one hour."

"But my family-!"

"I called them while you were signing autographs, they don't mind."

Later at Maretropolis

Midnight found himself staring at the largest sky scraper in the whole city. At the way top stood a sign with a familiar logo.

"Power Ponies?"

"Welcome to HQ." Waller stepped aside as the doors slid open, revealing the Power Ponies and their sidekick; Hum Drum in training.

"Team! Fall in!" Just like following a drill sergeant at boot camp, the team assembled in one quick move-minus Hum Drum tripping over his cape again. Masked Matterhorn was the first to greet the prince to their headquarters.

"Prince Midnight. Good to see you again, how's your sister?"

"Nice to see you two girls and Nidra is fine. So Ms.Waller. I can guess that there's only one reason you'd allow me access to the headquarters of one of Maretropoli's most famed super heroes."

"You're a smart kid. Prince Midnight, I am offering a chance to help enforce the laws that your family created for our society; A chance to become a member of The Power Ponies." The team stood there in shock.

"WHAT?!?"
