Her Scent held Close

The sun was shining with the usual fare, radiating its enlivening rays into the hungry planet below it. The birds were singing praises of their harmonious existence with the rest of the world. A slumbering pony awakens with light shining through her window and trots away taking extra care of herself in her bathroom. Twirling her hair with the cute pink straightener that was given by her mother. Rarity always cherished this gift ever since she was a young filly when she created dresses and designs even at such a age.

She left through her door and walked down the stairs into the main room where all her dresses and workings were situated. She looked through her notebook of clients and their design wants and needs. One for a ballroom dance, another for a sweet sixteen, there were many orders to be made and she had such little time to examine them all. She began working on the lemony colored ballroom gown, its folds elegantly made with moth like wings and its shoulder straps filled with girth to give it a interesting look. She basically was almost done, she just needed to give it the good ol’ Rarity Inspection.

Eyeing the elegant silk she noticed a sudden imperfection, one of the folds was too long. And what else, but give it a bit of a snipperoo, she hoofed over a knife from the little cup of supplies and masterly cut it with a cinch.

Ah much much better, I do hope that the client will be satisfied. Ah who am I kidding, They are always satisfied!

Rarity smiled gleefully and moved on from the ballroom gown to the sweet sixteen, party extravaganza dress. She began inspecting the details with its twirling folds going to its left. She spinned the dress turntable and studied the back while admiring her own work in the process.

‘Knock! Knock! Knock!’

The sound pervaded behind Rarity and she looked back towards her door to the outside world. She let loose her inspection and trotted her way to meet with whomever it might be.

“Just a minute, I’ll be right there!” Rarity continued her way until she made it to the purple elegantly black lined door. She opened it and stood frozen at the Diamond Dog waiting patiently outside. He was tall, grey colored with green eyes and purple straight irises, he had a cane with a black ball on top and a top hat with a collar that had a tie with the initials BD. He was muscular and had his claws sitting idly on top of his cane.

“Well hello there madame! I heard around these neck of the woods per say that this is the best place to get a good outfit or two!” said The Diamond Dog.

Rarity slammed the door on his face and cowered behind the door’s frame. She yelped and ran and jumped behind one of her counters. She looked up behind her counter at the door for a familiar knocking to pervade itself once more.

“Um, excuse me madame, but I do need a new suit for this upcoming thing I am going to. If you would be so kind as to allow me entrance, I will assure you that I will have the utmost manners!”

Rarity was filled with disbelief and confusion, she asked herself, should she trust this mongrel who might capture her? There was something odd about this situation indeed. Against her instincts, she trotted her way to meet with the dog who had such colorful vocabulary. She opened the door and was met with the same individual with such a sunny expression of calmness and patience…

“Well, hello! I see you have finally made up your mind! Shall we do business then?” said The Diamond Dog as happily as ever.

“You… you aren’t here to capture me?” questioned Rarity.

“Why, I would never do anything of the sort, I just came here to find a new suit. Is that so hard to identify with? Let me guess, you believe because of my species that I would set ill for you or abuse you in some way? I know my species might have a reputation, but I assure you that I am not of the same way.”

Rarity shook her eyes when she realized she was in the presence of a gentleman. Such a courteous display could only mean that he meant no harm. She allowed him in with a bit of confusion, especially coming from someone of his race.

“I never have met a Diamond Dog like you before, where are you from?” asked Rarity awed.

“Ah, you might be surprised, you see I am from Canterlot! I love how so many ponies have to ask me these questions, it is simply a delight.”

“There are Diamond Dogs In Canterlot?”

“Hmm, this place has quite a designer feel to it. I guess that is rightly placed based on your vocation! So where shall I be measured?”

“Uh, right this way… Mr.?”

“Ah, of course! An introduction is much needed. You madame are in the presence of Tid Bite, entrepreneur and highly-praised Canterlot resident.”

“I would think that a Diamond Dog living in Canterlot would be big news by now.” questioned Rarity as she guided him to the measuring pedestal.

“Well, between you and me, the residents of Canterlot keep me secret and usually the ponies I know and meet see me. You could say I am the Legend of Canterlot!” said Tid Bite as he stepped on the pedestal. “That reminds me! Mrs. Designer, would you mind keeping my existence a secret? I don’t want ponies turning their heads over me.”

“Well, alright, it’s Rarity by the way if you're so inclined.”

“Ah, Madame Rarity, has a nice ring to it.”, said Tid.

Rarity went to a closet and opened it to find a surplus of supplies, from different variations of colored fabric and silk to needles and threads as cluttered as the eye could see.

She pushed through and pulled out a measuring tape with her magic that was yellow in coloration and zipped back to him as he watched intently. She stretched out the tape to measure his body type.

“Please hold still as much as possible, I need to get the right measurements…”

She measured his big arms that were larger than his short stubby legs and hoofed over from her wooden desk a lined paper to write on. Rarity grasped a pitch-black pen with a metallic frame on its back from under the desk and copied the information.

“So, what would be a good time to retrieve my suit?” said Tid as he stood perfectly still.

With needles in her teeth, Rarity spoke in a muffled tone.

“Come back around nine, I’ll have it ready by then.”

Tid went his way towards the door and waved as he opened to exit. She gave a smile as he exited the store.

She ran to the window and watched where he left to find that a car awaited him of all things.

Curious indeed, a diamond dog in Canterlot? Something doesn’t feel right about him…

She shook her head and went to the table to begin working on the black suit. It’s going to be a long day.

Later that evening, Rarity slumbered on the wooden table she worked on. a knocking and she awoke surprised, the suit not finished from the middle to the bottom. Terrified, a knock came again once more to her terror. She walked her way hesitantly to the door and opened it to find the familiar Tid once more. She smiled nervously from the suitless Diamond Dog.

“Hello Madame Rarity, I’ve come for the-”

“Um, yes, I have it ready, its just…”, Tid looked at the mare questionably.

“It’s not ready Mister Tid, I’m sorry, if its any consolation.”

“Not another word, I need this suit for the party I am going to and you have wasted my time, but since I have no other option, I have a proposition for you.”

            “Whuh? What would that be?”

“Finish the dress, but do it in my car which will mean that you will have to come with me as a guest to the party, do you accept or not?”

“Well, I…”

“Hurry Madame, I don’t have much time to waste.”

“I guess I can throw something on for such a quick occasion, but…”

“Good, hurry and put it on, I need to get going.”

Rarity closed the door, looked into her room and searched in the closet. Seeing that he was going to a party, but now sure what type it was, she decided to put something formal instead of anything flashy. The dress had a simple beige coloration that covered her from neck to toe, it would do at this situation.

As she ran out of the room, taking a few knitting needles with her and the sewing machine, she had to make sewing magic before they arrived to his party. Out the door and into the car, Tid commented how reasonable the choice of clothing was. Rarity didn’t say anything, she was too focused on her job.

At closer inspection, the limousine she’s in had comfortable seats, but enjoying the frivolity of this vehicle was just a quick diversion to what she had to do. She started knitting the suit when Tid hopped into the middle seat, a loud shake and thud came to the car. The front window to the back seat slowly opened to find Tid’s doggy mug.

“Madame Rarity, there is a plug on the right side of your seat you can use for the sewing machine, do hurry for we will be arriving to Canterlot.”

“Yes, It will be done quickly!” said Rarity while plugging in the sewing machine. The loud whir of the machine came on instantly. She worked diligently as the car drove incredibly fast, it was obvious they were late.
