A Calculated Risk
I’ve planned for many eventualities in my life, but this definitely wasn’t on the list. In fact, going back a few years I never had friends to begin with. Now I’m about to introduce my special someone to both of my parents at dinner, but this wasn’t just anyone. The person that I was about to introduce, while being a great friend, could sometimes be a little brash. This wasn’t a bad thing per se, since it was one of things I loved about her, but I wasn’t sure how it would go over with my parents if that side stood out more than her other quirks. Since she’s another Element of Harmony, I fear that my parents might expect her to have a certain set of manners that I know full well she doesn’t possess.
“Would you stop spacing out already, Twi?” Rainbow asked jokingly as she playfully nudged me, snapping me out of my trance. “Don’t tell me you’re already having second thoughts about this?”
“No!” I quickly snapped, feeling a little embarrassed by the outburst. I turned my gaze to see my girlfriend walking beside me, an eyebrow raised in confusion.
“You don’t sound all that confident,” she replied with a smirk spreading across her face. I could never get away from her teasing. I felt myself begin to fluster as I tried not to lose my footing on level ground.
“It’s just the nerves, I guess,” I admitted. There wasn’t a point in keeping secrets at a time like this. I’d read somewhere about times like these being nervous for a couple, but I didn’t think it would be this bad. I averted my gaze back towards the ground, hoping that my stomach would stop tying knots at some point.
“Hey, come on, Twi,” I heard Rainbow say as I felt an arm slowly snake over my back, pulling me into a side hug. “How nervous do you think I am here? You made me wear this lame outfit.”
My eyes eagerly swayed upwards to look back at the dress Rainbow was wearing for the occasion. My parents being from Canterlot meant that they at least expected us to arrive in something other than Wonderbolt jumpsuits. I’d had Rarity make Dash something since she never wore anything but her training outfit most of the time, which she’d insisted on putting under the dress to add some comfort. The clothing itself wasn’t anything too fancy, a simple light blue dress with a little rainbow trim around the edges. Dash had pleaded on not having to wear it, but I’d managed to persuade her in the end.
“Come on, Rainbow, my parents wouldn’t appreciate it if you turned up wearing something casual.”
“What do you mean? I make anything look awesome!” Rainbow exclaimed. I saw that smirk of hers widen in response.
“Rainbow, wearing a shirt with a Wonderbolt symbol and shorts is fine in Ponyville, but the people here in Canterlot have styles that are much more refined. Your casual look would only make this harder than it needs to be, no matter how awesome you say you can make it,” I countered, rubbing my temples at Rainbow’s attempt to get out of the dress.
Suddenly, I felt a set of warm lips come into contact with my cheek, the sensation giving my whole body a small shiver of excitement. Before I could react to anything, I felt her hot breath tease my ear.
“You say that, but we both know what you’d rather have me wearing,” Dash whispered, her voice low and sultry. I felt my cheeks burn with the reddish tint that stained them. I resisted the urge to facepalm at that one, though it wasn’t uncommon to hear something like that from Rainbow. She could always get under my skin even at times like these, but surprisingly it made me forget about everything else going on in life. As weird as it sounds, Dash always seemed to make things feel a lot calmer even with her rather brash attitude. I simply sighed and leaned into her as we walked along the cobbled streets of the regal city, taking a few moments just to enjoy the scenery around us. It was almost sunset, so most people had already vacated the streets, going into the various restaurants and bars around the city center.
It didn’t take us long to reach the housing estates around Canterlot. Once we had made it across to the other side of town, I began seeing the building in question come into view. I felt my heart beat a little faster with every step we took. Even with all the risks I’d taken into account before coming on this trip, I still couldn’t shake the rising fear in my chest. Rainbow seemed to notice this, squeezing me a little in her grasp.
“Don’t chicken out on me, we’re almost there.”
“That’s the point,” I mumbled in response.
Suddenly, Rainbow stopped walking. I quickly whirled around to see her as she stood there with a meaningful look in her eyes.
“Twilight,” she said slowly, casting her gaze towards the ground. She stepped up to me, grabbed my hands, and flicked her eyes up at mine. “You know... we don’t have to do this if you don’t want to.”
I didn’t say anything, my mind a whirlwind of contrasting thoughts and feelings. After several seconds of silence, I felt Rainbow brush a few stray strands of hair from my face.
“So... If you feel up for it, we can still go to your parents’ house. If you’ve changed your mind, which is completely okay, I’ll find us a hotel for the night and we can go home tomorrow. We can always try later, you know? We don’t have to do this right now, but...” Rainbow took a deep breath and let it out slowly.
I listened to Rainbow’s words, her tone showing that she would gladly take me away if I wasn’t ready. She was even ignoring the fact that I made her go through a lot for the dress she was wearing for this special evening to make sure I felt better. I took a couple of breaths as I calmed my nerves slightly, looking at Rainbow with a determined look. “Thanks for the offer, Dash, but if I don’t do this now, then I’ll just continue to hold it off. Besides, they are kind of expecting us. It would be rude to not show up, and... I can make it through this as long as I have you by my side.”
I grabbed Rainbow’s hands in my own, the other woman squeezing mine as she smiled at me. For a long time we just stood there, gazing into each other’s eyes. I don’t think I would ever tire of looking into those vibrant orbs of magenta. I began to feel myself leaning in, bringing myself closer to Rainbow until our lips met in a loving kiss. My eyes closed almost instantly as my brain took in all the other senses for me. The whole world, everything that was around us was useless at this moment in time.
It felt like centuries had passed us by the time we separated. I opened my eyes to see Rainbow staring right back at me, her face still holding that all-knowing smirk that I loved so much.
“Come on,” I whispered gently as tried to collect myself. “We don’t wanna be late.” I pulled on Rainbow’s arm as we began to walk at a much brisker pace to make up for the lost time.
“I thought Rarity said it was better to be fashionably late,” Rainbow stated as she kept pace beside me.
“When did she say that?”
“When I had to stand there for hours getting my dress made,” she quipped with a small giggle. I couldn’t resist but to giggle myself as we approached the front of the home, walking down a simple pathway to the door. As we ascended the small steps to reach the entrance, I felt my nerves make one last attempt to bubble up in my stomach while I reached out to knock. I took one last look at my girlfriend, who was still giving me the same loving smile she had been moments ago. I smiled back more ready than ever as I gave the door a few knocks before waiting. Suddenly, I began to hear familiar voices as the sound of feet clattering against the floor became louder. The door opened to reveal a woman I knew all too well. My mother looked at me and Dash before seeming to light up on the spot.
“Ahah! If it isn’t the two ladies of the hour,” Twilight Velvet said happily as she opened the door, gesturing for us to come inside. We walked into the home as she shut the door, admiring both of our outfits. “My compliments to Rarity, I should have known she’d make you two something nice.”
I smiled and hugged her as I nodded in response. “Yeah, Rainbow doesn’t have a lot of dresses, so I thought it might be nice for us to get some.”
“Well, it’s very nice to see you again, honey,” Velvet said as she turned her gaze to my girlfriend. “And how are you, Rainbow Dash? Last time I saw you was when Shiny got married.”
“I’ve been great, Mrs. Velvet,” Rainbow said happily, and much to my relief she didn’t call her Twilight Mk. 1 or something even worse than that.
“Please,” my mother started as she put a hand to her chest. “just call me Velvet, no need for any formalities,” she stated kindly. Rainbow nodded in acknowledgment as we heard more footsteps coming from deeper within the home. I turned my head around just in time to see my father emerge from the kitchen down the hall.
“Well, if it isn’t my little Twiley!” Night Light exclaimed as he hugged me. I wrapped my arms around him while continuing to blush at the thought of the embarrassing entrance, giving Rainbow something to tease me for years to come. My father released me as he turned to Rainbow with a smile. “Still keeping the skies clear, I hope,” he said with a mild chuckle.
“You bet, Mr. Light,” Rainbow replied with a mock salute. I grinned at her as we exchanged a quick glance before my mother spoke up.
“Well, you’re both a little early. Your father burnt the carrots… again,” she stated, giving a deadpan look towards the man who was stepping back in embarrassment. “So dinner will be ready in a little bit.”
As Night Light scurried back to the kitchen, Velvet turned around to follow him. She turned her head back to us as she made her way down the hall. “Why don’t you show Rainbow around? I’ll need to keep an eye on the chef,” she stated with a small giggle. “I’ll come find you both when it’s ready.”
As my parents walked out of sight, I let out a sigh of relief before turning to Dash. “Well, that went a lot better than I’d hoped,” I began with a smile. “So you wanna see the house?”
“Sure,” Rainbow replied with a shrug as I walked over to the nearby staircase with Rainbow following by my side.
“Well, there really isn’t much to the place,” I explained as I opened up the first room. The blue walls and royal guard posters made it evidently clear who it belonged to, “This is Shining’s room, though most of the stuff is gone since he moved out. Mom insisted on keeping a few things in case he ever wanted to stay over.”
Rainbow peered into the room to get a better look. “I guess Cadence gets the couch with the size of that bed then,” Dash joked as I let out a giggle. We left the room and headed over to the next one, which wasn’t far away. It had a much larger space than the last. The traditional oak bed fit perfectly with the home's interior, with a few bits and bobs scattered around the shelves and drawers that were placed within.
“My mother prefers to keep things as they were,” I explained to Rainbow as she walked in and took a look around.
“You mean all this furniture came with the house?” she asked in wonder. I nodded casually as I looked around the room myself. There were a few moments of silence that passed before Rainbow spoke up.
“So, only one room left to go now,” Dash said as she peeked over her shoulder at me with a cheeky grin plastered on her face. I couldn’t help but roll my eyes in response while I gestured for her to follow as I walked back into the hallway. I gently put my hand on that familiar door, feeling a smile spread across my lips as I swung it open. A ton of fond memories flooded back to me as my eyes scanned over the room. As I stood there, Rainbow pushed her way past me and walked into my room, taking a look around. Like my brother’s, it wasn’t anything extravagant. A desk for my studies and a library case for all my books were the only real things of interest besides my small single bed that resided in the middle of the large space.
“Nice place,” Rainbow said as she turned back with a genuine smile. “How long were you bookworming in here?”
I laughed a little before walking in and taking more of a look around as I made my mind up. “Around seven or eight years I guess. I moved into my own place once Celestia got me into the school as her protege.”
Rainbow took on a surprised expression as I continued, looking over towards my desk, “That’s where I turned my first page using my magic,” I stated proudly, pointing to the empty piece of furniture.
“Really?” Rainbow asked as I nodded. “So did you just read spellbooks?” she inquired.
I looked around to the bookcase behind me, grabbing a few things out. “I think I kept a few of my brother’s comics here,” I replied, taking a few moments to find said books before waving a hand as I levitated a few of them out and placing them on the bed next to Rainbow who eagerly began to scan over them. I smiled before turning my attention to the rest of the room, seeing my window, the last few rays of sunlight twinkling through and into the home. I headed over to see the fading sun, watching it fall as the moon rose. I smiled as I remembered watching the spectacle with wonder as a child.
I was busy looking out the window when I heard the bed behind me groan a little. I looked away from the fading sunlight to see Rainbow lying on my bed. She had removed her dress and had folded it neatly at the foot of the bed before laying on her back. My eyes slowly began to travel upwards, taking in Rainbows toned legs, her curved sides, and her vibrant magenta eyes that were invested in the comic. She was too busy to notice my eyes lingering on her body that was now only obscured by her gym wear as my cheeks flushed. I watched with rapt attention, my mind wandering to other fantasies that were deep within my mind as I heard Dash giggle from the comic.
Rainbow wore a bright smile as she turned through the pages of the comic, her lips inviting me over to kiss them. I quickly dismissed the thought; I couldn’t risk giving away anything before my parents knew we were dating. However, my mind began pushing my worries to the side for now, I couldn’t hear any signs of my parents from below, so I let myself become lost in past memories at the feeling’s Dash’s lips gave me before hearing her call out my name.
“Hey, Twilight, why don’t you join me? We’ve got lots of time to kill before dinner’s ready.” Rainbow patted a spot next to her, and I was more than excited to get in closer proximity to that girl which my mind currently craved so much.
I slid next to her eagerly, Rainbow placing an arm around my waist as she pulled me close to her body. She held the magazine up for the two of us to read, but my mind couldn’t focus on the words that were in front of me. My entire face heated up as I heard Dash’s heartbeat, her chest gently rising and falling, giving me a sense of calm with the warmth radiating from her. I felt Rainbow’s hand begin to run through my hair as she focused on the story in front of her.
I sighed in contentment as I let my eyes drift close a little, my arms moving around Rainbow so I could try and bring us closer together. I could hear Dash give a loving sigh as her hand moved to my back, pressing against a few tense muscles that I didn’t know I had. My mind began to blossom with love for the girl I was laying next to. All I wanted was to get closer, as much as was humanly possible to achieve. I pressed my back into Rainbow’s touch as she continued to massage me. I heard Rainbow giggling, causing me to open my eyes and lift myself up so I could look at her.
Rainbow gave a mischievous smirk. I raised a brow in confusion as I tried to figure out what she found so funny. As I opened my mouth to say something, Rainbow moved too quickly for me to react, and I felt her lips press against mine. I gave a startled gasp as my eyes widened in shock. Rainbow used this to her advantage to push her tongue into my open mouth, immediately pinning my tongue down. Rainbow always did this when things got a little heated, though I would ever complain about it.
As my shock slowly started to dissipate, I closed my eyes as I let out a small, lust-filled moan. One of Rainbow’s hands drifted to rest on the back of my head, letting her deepen the kiss further. Her other hand moved along my side, tickling me slightly as she dominated my mouth. I moved both of my hands to her sides, moving under her top and feeling her toned abs. I felt Rainbow’s muscles tense slightly as my fingers lightly traced along her body. I struggled to think how a girl this beautiful was currently occupying my small bed, but I let that thought slip out of my mind for the time being.
Rainbow’s hand moved from my side to under my shirt. She ran her fingers along my belly, causing me to giggle into her mouth. Finally, Rainbow let go of my tongue and teased the tip of it with hers, coaxing me into her mouth. I relished in feeling around my girlfriend’s mouth, acquainting myself all over again with every soft curve and taste within. I lost myself in the make-out session we were having, and much to my surprise, Rainbow let me pin her tongue down. She would hardly ever take a loss, but it was something she only shared with me, and I was happy to share that with her.
I began to feel the world around me slowly evaporate into nothing. My whole attention was set on making my girl happy. My hands moved from her sides to the hem of her shirt. I grasped at the cotton fabric as she moved to do the same. I teasingly pulled the shirt up her body as she pulled my shirt up my chest, keeping my bra hidden from view. Sadly, the two of us parted as I finished taking off Rainbow’s shirt, the article of clothing smelling like the object of my desire. Rainbow was wearing a black sports bra underneath her shirt. I brought it up to my nose and sniffed as I stared into her eyes, her scent driving me wild. With a sultry grin, I threw the shirt to the side, not really caring where it landed as I leaned in for another kiss.
Rainbow wrapped both hands above my waist as she moaned into my mouth. I absolutely loved it when she did that, for it meant that I was making her happy. Her fingers danced along my skin, sending small shocks up my spine as I battled her tongue for dominance. While I busied myself with beating Rainbow in our battle of tongues, she pulled me closer. I gave a cute squeak when she did this, getting an easy chance to make a counter attack on me. She pinned my tongue into my mouth, her hands continuing to dance along my skin as she held me close. I gave a defeated sigh before she finally allowed me the freedom of my tongue. Our lips were still pressed together but I could tell that she was smirking at her little victory. I didn’t mind though, since I had everything I needed with me at the moment.
Rainbow gave my sides a final stroke with her fingers before she moved to the small of my back. The two of us pulled away, heavy, crimson blushes on our cheeks as we panted for air. A string of saliva connected our tongues as we stared lovingly into each other’s eyes.
“I love you… Dashie,” I whispered, trying to get some precious air into my deprived lungs.
“I love you, too, my cute little spark,” Dash said as she gave a quick rub to my back.
I felt Rainbow’s hands against the small of my back, signaling that she wanted to go for another kiss. I was about to make a move towards her, when I suddenly noticed a tiny bit of light out of the corner of my eye. Reality seemed to smack me in the face as my brain started to come back on again. Everything was in slow motion now. Rainbow followed my line of sight and fear began to rise in the pit of my stomach as the worst of our fears were confirmed. My mother stood in the doorway, light spilling into the room. Her view of us was definitely revealing, to say the least. Knowing the game was up, I cast a quick look at Rainbow and saw a confident grin on her face. My frantic heart slowed down a little bit, but as I opened my mouth to start explaining what was going on, I felt Rainbow’s finger upon my lips.
Rainbow cleared her throat and rubbed the back of her neck. “So... I’m guessing dinner is ready?” she sheepishly asked, making me roll my eyes.
I lay my head on Rainbow’s shoulder, looking away from my mom as my blush deepened.
Dinner’s gonna be soooooo awkward...
Dinner
I felt my hand slowly clasp over my face, hoping that I was just seeing things. I felt Rainbow’s arms slowly begin to let go, sending a cold shiver down my back at the bare areas they left behind. I sensed the shocked stare that my mother was probably still giving us both, and as I let my hand fall to my side and grip Rainbow's arm, that’s exactly what I saw.
My mother wasn’t usually completely shocked; when she was surprised she’d smile and laugh. However, things like birthday parties didn’t equate to the magnitude of what she was seeing before her. I stared back at my mother for a time, Rainbow exchanging awkward looks between us.
“M-Mom I… I don’t know what to-”
“N-No dear, please, it’s alright,” Velvet began to stutter as she backed away from the door. My heart raced as my mind went through all the terrible outcomes that could be unfolding any moment from now.
“We were going to tell you,” I replied almost dejectedly, my mother stopping in her tracks. A few more tense moments let themselves pass by before anyone made a move, but slowly my mother began to step forward again, tilting her head in confusion.
“Tell me what, exactly?” Velvet asked curiously. I would have thought with the scene it’d have been pretty obvious as to what was going on, but I looked past that and simply bowed my head in shame. Not sure whether I myself was comfortable telling her the truth.
“Rainbow Dash and I are... dating,” I began finally, “I wanted to tell you and Dad at dinner tonight, but I guess we both got carried away, huh?” I jested a little, hoping to clear the tense air.
My mother remained silent as she came up with a reply; I wanted to hold on to Rainbow as the nerves slowly began creeping up my body, sending pin-pricks up my spine. I felt utterly helpless at this moment, I had laid all the cards were on the table now, and not in the way I’d wanted to reveal them.
Silence still filled the room, I opened my mouth to say something, that I it was nothing but a simple jok-
“That’s wonderful.”
Wait, what?
I immediately looked up to see my mother surprisingly wearing a proud yet warm smile across her face. My heart felt like it was swelling up as I began to feel a little bit relieved at the sight of her not freaking out at the current situation we were in. I felt a smile of my own begin to spread across my cheeks as I replied.
“You sure you’re not… um… disappointed?” I asked, hesitant.
My mother raised an eyebrow at that before shaking her head vigorously, “No dear, trust me I’m more than happy for you two just… surprised is all,” she answered slightly nervous, but nowhere near to the degree I was currently experiencing
I breathed in a shaky but slightly calmer breath, quietly thanking Celestia herself that my mother was at least okay with the dating aspect of it. I felt Rainbow relax slightly too now, her tensed muscles seeming to soften a little in my tight grip. After another awkward pause, I began to find the strength to move once more, taking my hands off my lover with slight hesitation before pushing myself up and back onto my rather shaky legs. Rainbow watched me with slight worry before I was able to regain my balance, my eyes averted back to my mother's gaze as I began to walk slowly over before she grabbed me in a soft but caring embrace. I felt my eyes began to tear up as I just held her, for what seemed like forever before we broke apart. I saw my mother smile at me before looking over my shoulder, to which I turned around to find Rainbow standing not too far behind me with a smile as well.
It was clear that there had been nervousness before, but thanks to the acceptance of my mother, her cocky smile returned to show everything was okay. My heart was already beginning to beat faster once again, blood rushing to my cheeks as I looked between the love of my life and my own mother.
After another short while I was getting tired of the constant silences. Taking another breath, I looked to my mother with a smile, “S-should we head for dinner then?” I asked, hoping to at least change the subject. Mom nodded happily before rushing back down the stairs with me nearly following before I felt Rainbow grab my arm. I turned back to her with a raised eyebrow. Her cocky smile had disappeared, and it came to me that it was just for show. She would always do this when others were present around us, putting up a tough act until they left. Once they were gone she would show her true feelings and I would be there to help the best I could. I looked into her deep magenta eyes as I studied her.
“What’s wrong?” I began.
Rainbow rubbed the back of her neck as she tried to form some kind of response for me, “I-I know this might sound weird, but… do you think that maybe sounded a little too good to be true?” she asked, her face showing an expression of disbelief as we stared at one another.
I nodded in understanding as I took her hand, “I can’t say for sure Dash, but I think my mom was probably the more likely of the two to be okay with this,” I replied, trying ever so hard not to get onto the topic of my father, but I knew that was exactly what was on her mind. Rainbow looked like she wanted to reply, but as much as I’d love to have sat and chatted further with her about the whole issue with this again, my mother shouted up from the rooms below.
“Twilight! Dinner’s ready!”
I sighed and turned, looking to Rainbow as we headed down the stairs, “We’ll deal with it together, okay? This night could have already been worse,” I affirmed before hearing her snicker behind me.
“Yeah, ‘cause getting caught making out in front of your mom wasn’t bad!” she teased, I felt myself getting red once more as we descended the staircase, choosing only to shake my head in embarrassment before we entered the hallway. I showed Rainbow over to the back of the home where the kitchen was located, the cooking area itself opened up into a dining area, there both my parents were already seated waiting for the two of us. My mom was smiling pleasantly along with my father, who thankfully unlike my mother was completely oblivious to the situation at hand.
“Well, here goes nothin’,” I heard Rainbow whisper behind me as we got to the table.
I tried to keep my cool, the air already seeming to get tense. Moments ago I had felt relief from my mother’s acceptance, but seeing my father sat from across the table, even if he was showing nothing but affection at this point, scared me to the absolute core. I felt my stomach tighten, my face forcing a pleasant smile from my mouth, “Sorry for being late, I hope we didn’t keep you both waiting.”
My father waved his hand dismissively as he continued to smile. “You didn’t keep us waiting long. You also brought along a friend, so I can assume that you both were just lost in whatever it was you could be talking about.”
My heart sped up as I shifted uncomfortably. While he was true that Dash and I had been talking, he was most definitely nowhere near what the topic was about. I stayed frozen in place as my mother set the table. I was made to take the first step when I felt Rainbow give a gentle nudge. Taking a deep breath, I moved towards the table and pulled out a chair. I offered the pulled out chair to Rainbow who took the seat. I took the one next to her and looked at my father who was now staring at us.
“I guess you’re both really good friends if you’re pulling out her seat,” my father joked, a grin spread across his lips.
I blushed a little from this, knowing that my father was going to make jokes about this like he did everything else. I looked over to my mother who was still smiling, but her eyes gestured towards my father. I knew what she was saying wordlessly to me, but that didn’t make it easier. I wanted to forget this whole things and let my father believe that Rainbow and I were just really close friends. Then my mother would be able to explain the situation between us, but it didn’t seem like that was going to happen as my mother spoke.
“Night Light, I believe our daughter has something that she would like to tell us,” my mother said calmly, her smile never leaving her features as she tried her best to help me along.
“Oh, what kind of news? Has she finally learned the balance between getting proper rest and staying up late to read books?” my father openly joked, his laughter filling the room.
I slunk my head, shaking it at him for trying to be funny. It wasn’t that he was always bad at telling jokes, but most of the time they were just cringy. Although, last time I thought about it, I always went to bed at a reasonable time, even with a book that held my interest. He only thought I stayed up late reading because he caught me ten times when I was a child reading under the covers of my bed.
Giving a harsh shake, I brought my mind back to what was really important. Sadly, I still couldn’t bring my head back up to look at my father, his laughter still echoing around the room as he probably told another joke. I lifted my head a little when I felt Rainbow grasp my hand in her own. I felt the firm grip of her hand encouraging as I looked up at her. There was a smile adorning her face, and I couldn’t help but smile back.
Nodding my head, I lifted it as I looked back at my father. He was wiping his face clean and seemed to stop halfway through as our eyes locked. My features seemed to freeze as my mind almost felt like it was stuck on autopilot, “A-Actually Dad, t-there’s something… important that I need to tell you.”
My father gave me a strange look now that he had noted the way I was speaking. My Dad wasn’t a child, so I could think of the worries already spilling into his thoughts as he looked between the both of us.
“And what would that be?” he asked, the jokes seeming to be a distant memory with his change of tone. I swallowed in an attempt to reply, but all of a sudden I heard Rainbow answer for me.
“I’m in love with your Daughter, Sir,” Rainbow replied politely, holding my hand tighter as I sat there almost as shell shocked as my mother by the abrupt change of events. I had never even comprehended that Rainbow would go out of her way to speak for me on her behalf, especially after seeing how concerned she had felt about my father knowing moments prior to the confrontation. I sat there with my mouth shut tight, my lungs almost screaming for air as my father and Rainbow stared at one another mutually as if they were just waiting for the other to play their next move. I felt ready to vomit as my father turned to me, his expression showing all the signs of the words ‘spill it’
I sighed, swallowing hard before speaking up for the final time. Before coming here I was certain this would have turned out a lot cleaner than it currently stood, but part of me knew that it was never going to be this easy. I took a last look at Rainbow before saying my piece, the one I’d been rehearsing in my head from the first day I contemplated revealing my hidden secret to my own flesh and blood.
“I-it’s true Dad, m-me and Rainbow are dating one another. I-I don’t know if either of you are truly okay with it, but it’s the whole reason we came here tonight to talk with you about it.” I began, taking another slow and patient breath before continuing, “I love Rainbow, I want you guys to get to know her instead of us hiding from you.”
After I finished speaking I watched my father intently, his features had not faltered once from his stoic stare. I almost felt completely disconnected from the fun loving, joke making Dad I knew from all my years growing up. My heart felt ice cold, and my stomach had seemed now to be twisting one too many knots within me as I lowered my head from his gaze.
“What are your intentions with my daughter?”
My ears perked up as I stopped my movements, did my father really just say-
“Uhm, w-what do you mean?” I heard Rainbow answer as I raised my head again, looking to a rather bewildered girlfriend of mine as she stared back at my father confusingly.
“I mean, do you have anything else planned? Trust me when I tell you this, Rainbow Dash. I’m an easy going father, but when it comes to my little one, I can either be a good person to be around or someone that haunts your nightmares,” my father explained, adjusting himself in his seat before continuing. “So do you wish for your relationship with my daughter to be simple, or do you have future plans with her?”
As I watched the conversation unfold between them, my mind was telling me something was up with the way my dad seemed to be talking, then it suddenly hit me as to what it was he was trying to get at. My face flushed in embarrassment, but went un-noticed by Rainbow who was still oblivious to what my father was up to.
“W-Well future wise we plan to move in with each other, and maybe stay a little more rooted to Ponyville in order to build a better life for the two of us,” Dash responded.
My father reached across the table and grabbed knife, inspecting it as he spoke. “Ponyville is a wonderful place to live. I hear from a few work friends about how that town is very rustic, but maintains enough modern living to be a beautiful place,” my father said, grabbing a spare napkin and cleaning the knife off with a small smile.
It was after this I tried to contain my laughter, completely forgetting about the tension that was once in the air as I felt happy for the first time since I had sat down at the table. Rainbow was still completely unaware of the trap she was wandering into as she pulled a confused yet fearful look at my father, “Uhm… I guess so,” she answered, slightly unsure.
My father gave a slow nod as he placed the knife down, straightening it for several seconds before staring back at Dash. Silence filled the space between as he judged her. I could hear my mother clear her throat, apparently getting tired of this long game that my father had started. Hearing his wife, my father replaced his stoic expression with a large smile, chuckling as he spoke.
“Then I wish you both the best together. Hopefully neither of you will forget to invite us over for dinner at some point when you find a house to settle down in,” my father said happily, nodding his head at Rainbow Dash. “I also expect a big wedding between the two of you.”
In the amusement it took me a moment to realise the situation at hand… my father had agreed to my relationship with Rainbow Dash, and a wedding that Celestia only knows how far away it is. Although, looking over at Rainbow, she was staring at my father with her mouth agape, unsure of how to respond with what just happened. She could take a good joke like everybody else, since it’s the only way to fully handle Pinkie, but I don’t think she was prepared for this. Laughing silently, I pat the back of her hand as my mother finally spoke up.
“I think now that your father is finished giving the poor dear a heart attack and a headache, maybe it’s time to finally eat before the food gets cold,” my mother began with a smirk spread across her features as she levitated a few plates with helpings of various meals across to us.
I smiled widely back at both my parents and my lover as we began finishing up the most wild night of my life. I grinned to myself as I dug into my own food, remembering to make a little note for myself for later life.

Thanks for waiting so long to read the ending to this short fiction! It's been a long time since I've updated anything, but now I'm back into the swing of things I thought it best to finish of fictions like these as well as continuing a few of my others!
