The two sides of a Crystal
Small drops of rain fell from the clouds above Ponyville. The ponies around town were rushing inside their house. Others were closing up their shop. Rarity was yelling something about her hair as she ran towards her house in panic. Sweetie Belle walked after her but was not in such a hurry as her sister. Instead she decided to jump into the small puddles of rain that had formed in that small amount of time.
"Sweetie Belle! Would you please come inside quickly? You shouldn't be jumping around like that. You will ruin your beautiful coat!" Rarity yelled, a little upset.
"Jeez! It's just a bit of rain. You never let me have any fun." Sweetie said while rolling her eyes. Rarity was not amused by her reaction and simply gestured to come inside. "Alright, alright. I'm coming!" She was about to close the door when a Pegasus, grey as the sky above stopped her from doing so. "Hiya Derpy! What are you still doing out here?" Sweetie said curious and excited.
"I have to finish up my rounds. I don't really have much of a choice." Derpy replied. "Anyway, I have some mail for Rarity. Do you think you can give it to her?"
"Sure thing!" Sweetie took the mail out of Derpy's hooves and walked further inside. "Good luck out there!" She yelled cheerfully before she finally closed the door behind her. Derpy replied with a tip of her hat before she wondered off again.
Derpy continued to walk around Ponyville for a while, delivering every ponies mail. The rain had slowly flushed her smile away and was replaced with a frown. Her clothing was completely soaked by now and seeing the others ponies sitting inside warm and dry didn't make the situation any better. She did manage to keep the mail dry underneath her wings so that was one less thing to worry about. Still, her day couldn't get any worse. "Why do the weather ponies always schedule these cloudbursts when I have to work? It's like they do it on purpose." She muttered angry to herself. She hadn't gone one day without rain for a while. Which made sense because it was the rainiest season of the year. "They are just doing their job. No need to blame them for it... although, it would be a lot better if they took a day off."
She arrived at the last address, Sugar Cube Corner. It was already closed down so she knocked on the door. "Mister and Misses Cake? I have a package for you! Could I please come in?" She heard some noise coming from the back of the shop. Then she saw Misses Cake trot up to the door and unlock it.
"Oh my dear Derpy! You're completely drenched. Come in quickly before you catch a cold." Misses Cake said while she took the package out of Derpy's hooves.
"Nah, it's okay Misses Cake. I gotta get back home anyway." Derpy replied.
"Nonsense. You can wait here for the rain to pass. It's only a small cloudburst today afterall. Sit down and I'll make you a nice cup of coco." She said as she led Derpy inside and closed the door behind her. She ran toward the kitchen before Derpy could protest. She shook her head. took off her wet clothes and sat down at one of the tables. A few minutes later, Misses Cake came back with a cup of coco.
"I've put some extra whipped cream on it and some marshmallows too." Misses cake noticed the wet clothes hanging around the chair. "Let me get this dry for you as well."
"Thank you. You are so kind but you really don't h-.'' Again she disappeared before Derpy could say anything. She looked down at her coco with a smile. "That mare is too kind." She took a sip but startled as there was a sudden loud bang outside. She quickly turned around to look through the window. She saw a flash of lightning not far way strike down to the ground. "Weird... I thought the Pegasi had scheduled the thunderstorm for tomorrow... I must have misread it... again." She looked back at the table. Her head hanging down slightly. She focused on her hooves wrapped around the cup filled with dark brown deliciousness. However, the delightful smell did not seem to cheer her. In fact, her smile from before had faded away.
"Why do I always miss these sorta things? Why can't I have one day *without** making mistakes or making a fool out of myself? Maybe the boss was right. Maybe I am a failure. Why else would I have lost half of the packages last week? If I hadn't been so clumsy... If I hadn't been so stupid... Those ponies wouldn't have laughed at me and I would be able to walk around this forsake town without feeling so ashamed. I'm such a loser. I mean look at me. I'm talking to myself inside my head... who does that?... Doesn't matter, they all talk behind my back anyway. Saying I'm dumb flank... They're right though. I am a idiot... All of these doubts because of some stupid thunder outside. I really know how to talk myself down.''*
"Uhm, excuse me Miss. You have a little something on your face." A hoof reached to her muzzle to clear away some of the whipped cream.
Derpy hadn't notice a stallion had walked in and seated himself in front of her. She snapped out of her deep thoughts from the sudden touch and almost jumped of her chair. "Dear Celestia, you scared me!" She punched the stallion's arm. "What the hay are you doing here?"

Derpy hadn't notice a stallion had walked in and seated himself in front of her. She snapped out of her deep thoughts from the sudden touch and almost jumped of her chair. "Dear Celestia, you scared me!" She punched the stallion's arm. "What the hay are you doing here?"
''Au!" The stallion said loudly with a little chuckle "How are you? Me? I'm doing great, thanks for asking. How are you? I'm doing good thanks." The stallion said with a big grin on his face. "A simple hello would have been nice, but no instead you decided to punch me."
"You had it coming. And you know it." Derpy said a bit irritated.
The stallion raised his eyebrow and looked at Derpy questioningly, waiting for the response he was hoping for.
"Fine." Derpy said with her eyes rolling. "How are you Doctor? and may I ask why are you here?"
"That's better! Not that hard.'' the doctor said with a satisfied and teasing smile. "Enough about me, how are you my lovely companion?"
Derpy gave a confused look. "Uhm, I'm fine thanks but why are you here?"
The doctor started rambling again, not even listing to what else she had to say. "You don't look fine! I saw you out in the rain today. Horrible, that job of yours. Horrible! And don't get me started on you. I mean, you have definitely seen better days. You look terrible, hideous even. Look at you, cold, wet, completely soaked. Terrible. And don't get me started on that mane of yours. You should definitely do something about that mane. When was the last time you went to a manedresser? You should visit Rarity. I hear she's gr-" He rambled on.
Derpy was losing her patience. This had been the second time he avoided her questions at it was really getting on her nerves. He was right, today hadn't been one of the better days but that didn't make his commentary acceptable. "DOCTOR! Instead of trying to insult me on how I look, could you just for once listen to me?"
The doctor looked down at his hooves on the table for a moment. "Sorry, I guess I got a little excited." He said with a guilty smile and a bit of sadness in his eyes. "I'm listing, please, go ahead."
''Thank you Doctor." Derpy nodded still a bit angry. "I was finally having a calm and normal day until you decide to show up out of nowhere. Now this is not what upsets me. You know I don't mind you coming around. What does upset me however is that the last time I saw you was four months ago." She said with her tone getting angrier. The doctor opened his mouth but decided it was not the best idea to say anything at this point of the conversation. "You said you would be back in an hour! Now I wanna know what took you so long and why you are here in the first place. And I want answers. I want you to stop avoiding my questions like you always do and just answer them."
The Doctor stared at Derpy, expecting more words to come out of her mouth. Derpy looked at him as if she was expecting him to answer. She thought he would be eager to talk again. "I... can I talk now or do you want me to....?" He looked at her with a smug smile which resulted into a heavy sigh and an angry glare from the mare in front of him. "Sorry. Right... four months... May sound like an excuse but I swear, on my two hearts, it was an accident. The TARDIS has been having some trouble lately, too complicated for you to understand." Derpy gave another angry look towards the doctor. "I really really really did mean to visit earlier. Can you forgive please?"
Derpy tried to look away from his pleading eyes but couldn't resist. I.. I can't stay mad at him, he didn't mean to. NO! He has done this before. Too many times. But those eyes... I can't resist. Darn it Celestia.. She nodded. ''Alright, I forgive you. But, I'm still mad at you.''
"Good enough for me.'' The Doctor chuckled. "Now, lets get going then.'' He said as he hopped out his chair. ''I have so many things to tell you Derpy, amazing th-''
"Doctor, I am not coming with you.'' Derpy said, interrupting his usual rambling before he wouldn't be able to stop.
The Doctor turned around, looking a little confused. "What? Why not? I thought you missed me?''
''I... I did but...'' She went silent for a moment. ''I finally got my life back on track again. I can't just leave. I have a job and my friends here. I can't keep doing this. I can't keep throwing myself into these life threatening situations."
The Doctor's ears dropped down while he shook his head. "I... uh... I understand." He said, trying to withhold his sorrowfulness.
"Doctor.'' Derpy said a bit worried, feeling the guilt crawling up to her. She stood up from her seat and walked towards him.
"No, it's fine. Don't worry about me. I'll be fine.'' He said as he walked away from her. He opened the door, walking outside into the pouring rain. "Blimey, that's a lot of rain.'' He murmured to himself as his entire coat and mane were completely soaked by just standing in the rain for a few seconds. Derpy watched him disappear into the distance before she gave a large sigh and started galloping after him.
The Doctor walked through the rain, hoofs splashing in the occasional puddle, head hanging down. Another large splash, he looked down but saw he had not walked into a puddle, the sound was in fact coming from behind him. ''Doctor! Doctor wait!'' Derpy yelled after him, running to catch up with him. The stallion turned around, looking at the soaked mare with a goofy smile.
"'Changed your mind?''
Derpy finally stood next to him, trying to catch her breath before she spoke. "No, I-I didn't.''
''Then what is it you want from me Derpy?'' The stallion said as his smile disappeared.
''Well you can't just leave me without a proper goodbye. You owe me that... and I guess I owe you that too.''
''Right, sorry. I'm just not very fond of goodbyes.''
''Doctor.'' She said with pleading voice.
"I guess I can make an exception.'' He said as he grabbed the mare into a tight wet hug. "I'm going to miss you so much Miss Hooves. Just immensely.'' He said as he broke their long moment of embrace. He wiped away a tear or raindrop rolling down her cheek. Any excuse to brush her lovely cheeks will do . He looked into her beautiful eyes, taking a mental picture, hoping he would never forget that adorable face. ''I'll be okay. I've been on my own before. I'll manage, really.'' Derpy leaned her head against his hoof with a smile. She knew he was lying. Rule number one: the doctor lies. He was going to be devastated. He was already wearing his usual sad smile... that suddenly turned into a wide grin. ''Oh!" The Doctor jumped from excitement as he had a moment of remembrance. "I have something for you! From our last trip, it's still in the TARDIS. Come on!''
''Doctor. This isn't one of your tricks is it?'' Derpy said looking at him with suspicion.
''No, no I promise. Cross my hearts and hope to die, stick a muffin-cake-something-sweet-whatever-that-pink-pony-said in my eye.'' The doctor said rambling with great triumph. He grabbed Derpy by her hoof as he trotted towards the TARDIS.
