How I Lived In Equestria
Chapter 3.5-3: Dylan
Previous ChapterNext ChapterShadow and Twilight sat on the couch watching TV while their foals napped. Shadow had been able to convince Twilight to buy a TV a while back, and while she didn’t think it wouldn’t be as enjoyable as reading books…
She had been proven wrong.
She still preferred reading books, but watching TV with her husband seemed just as entertaining.
“We’ll be right back after these messages!”
“Damn cliffhangers…” Shadow muttered under his breath. “Even in Equestria they’re abused to death… No wonder Jorge and Dash have a love-hate relationship with this show!”
“I didn’t think you’d be into these kind of shows, Shadow.” Twilight chuckled softly.
“Yeah well, Daring Do reminds me a lot of a certain movie from back home…” Shadow rolled his eyes. “They’re not the same, but kinda similar, in its own way.”
As the two of them talked, Dylan had walked past the couple, making his way towards the exit. The two of them interrupted their conversation, as they watched the brown-ish red unicorn on his way.
“Heading out, Dylan?” Shadow asked.
“Huh?” Dylan stopped in his tracks, raising an eyebrow as he looked back. “Oh. Yeah. Flutters had asked if I was free for the day, so I’m off to see what she has planned.”
Shadow blinked. “Uh, alright then. Have… fun?”
Dylan gave the canadian a curious glare, but then quickly shrugged it off as he continued on his path for the exit.
Shadow flopped back onto the couch, looking over to his wife. “Dylan’s been hanging out with Fluttershy a lot lately, hasn’t he?”
Twilight glanced over to where Dylan was, then back to Shadow. “You don’t think that he and Fluttershy…”
“What?” Shadow jerked his head back, then scoffed. “Please. Dylan’s only been here for a month, I’m more than sure he’s not seeing anypony, especially not Fluttershy.”
“It took you two weeks to go from having just arrived in Equestria, to making love to me.” Twilight deadpanned.
Shadow blinked. “...To be fair...Nah, I’m not gonna finish that sentence.”
Twilight raised an eyebrow, opening her mouth slightly to say something, only for the TV to interrupt her focus.
“We now return to Daring Do: The Series!”
“Ooh!”
“I hope you don’t mind if I bring Linda with me on our picnic…” Fluttershy said, walking with Dylan to a specific spot she had in mind for their picnic. “Jorge and Rainbow are working on renovating their room, so they asked if I could watch her for a few days.”
“No, that’s fine.” Dylan shook his head. “I don’t mind at all, besides, this was your idea anyway.”
“I know, but I was hoping it’d just be the two of us today.” Fluttershy admitted.
“Why’s that?”
“Well, I mean… I mainly wanted it to be a picnic for just the two of us.” Fluttershy explained. “Just two friends going for a picnic together, y’know?”
“And here I was thinking you had an ulterior motive.” Dylan snickered.
“Oh? And what kind of ulterior motive would I have for such a simple picnic?” Fluttershy raised an eyebrow.
“I haven't a single clue.” Dylan shrugged.
The rest of their walk had been silent, even Linda hadn’t barked, or made any other sound for that matter. Dylan had simply looked around, passing by familiar places he had seen once or twice during his time in Equestria, but never really thought much of it.
Eventually, the two made their way to their destination, on the outskirts of Ponyville, lied a single tree, isolated from any attention from the rest of the town.
“This place is pretty far out here, isn’t it?”
“I did say I wanted it to be just the two of us, didn’t I?” Fluttershy commented.
“I think you’ve more or less accomplished that.”
Fluttershy simply set her picnic basket down, pulling a checkerboard blanket from it.
“Need any help with that?” Dylan asked.
“That would be nice…”
Dylan nodded, grabbing the blanket with his magic, and perfectly setting it flat onto the ground.
The two sat down on the center of blanket, while Linda laid down on a corner, where no one could disturb her.
They grabbed their food from the basket, officially starting their picnic.
“...and he ended up as a cactus for a bit.” Dylan laughed softly. “You should’ve seen the look on his face. Well, y’know, after I gave him one…”
Fluttershy laughed along with him, while he had screwed up a spell and turned his friend into a cactus, the very fact that it was Ishtaba that got turned into a cactus made all concern almost non-existent.
“Was he ever turned into a pony like he wanted, though?” She asked, curious to see how Dylan’s story ended.
“Yeah, we had Twilight fix him up anyway.” Dylan nodded. “Then he showed up to Jorge’s and argued with him for a bit. I’m still not sure what they were arguing about entirely…”
“Do they still have Cryo? Or did Ish take him back?” Fluttershy cocked her head to the side.
“Naw, he’s still with Jorge last time I checked.” Dylan shook his head. “But last I heard from Ish, he was trying to get his life back together.”
“Do you think he actually will?”
“If he cares enough, he should be fine.”
Fluttershy nodded in response. “I hope so...”
“So do I.” Dylan agreed. “So, was there anything specific you wanted to talk about out here, or are we just enjoying each others company?”
“Oh, well, I… uh… Wanted to talk about you, actually.” Fluttershy shrugged.
“Oh… What about me, then?” Dylan raised an eyebrow.
“Well, you’ve been in Equestria for a month now… And I wanted to know what you thought about here so far.” Fluttershy explained. “Are you enjoying yourself here?”
“It’s definitely an improvement, that’s for sure.” Dylan affirmed. “As for enjoying myself, I think it’s the people and company I’ve had to thank for that... Some more than others.”
“That’s good.” Fluttershy smiled. “I’m glad you like it here so far…”
“Yeah, there’s always someone doing something around here.” Dylan looked out towards Ponyville. “I remember Jorge saying that everyone could quite literally do anything.”
“He’s not wrong.” Fluttershy agreed. “Out here, there’s ponies that do things from farming apples, to raising and lowering the sun and moon.” She looked up to the sky. “It’s all so magical…”
“I’ve had my fair share of magical already…” Dylan commented. “Well, was there anything else in particular you wanted to ask?”
“Um, well…” Fluttershy looked back at the stallion. “Is there anything you have planned to do here?”
“Well, as it seems I’m here for good, I figured that I would go about some sense of normality, you know?” Dylan shrugged. “Get a job, start living somewhere outside of the castle, possibly even find someone, uh, pony special to share it with…”
Fluttershy nodded, agreeing with him. “Um, you don’t have to answer this if you don’t want to… But… Is there anypony that caught your attention while you’ve been here?”
“Well… um… there is somepony t-that comes to mind…” Dylan stuttered.
“Oh! T-that’s good to hear!” Fluttershy grinned. “It sounds like you have it all figured out, huh?”
“I’d like to think so sometimes, though I’m not always too sure…” Dylan quietly spoke. “Besides, it’s not like I’ve gotten to know too many people, er, ponies so far.”
“I’m sure you’ll be fine.” Fluttershy reassured him. “After all, you have all of us to help you when you need it.”
“Yeah, but I think I prefer certain p-ponies help at this point…”
“Well, I can help you when you need some…” Fluttershy shrugged. “I don’t know if I’m one of those ‘certain’ ponies.”
“Uh, y-yeah, I’d say you are.” Dylan stuttered once more. “Is that all you had planned on asking?”
“Um… Y-yeah. That’s about it…” Fluttershy nodded.
“Well… um, in that case, what do y-you think about me being here?” Dylan asked.
“Huh?” Fluttershy blinked. “W-what do you mean?”
“W-well, you’ve been asking how I feel about being here, and even if I fancied somepony, but how do you feel about m-me being here?”
“O-oh…” Fluttershy uttered. “Well, I… um… I’m kinda surprised to see another human in Equestria. Jorge was a pretty nice person, Shadow and Ishtaba were two different extremes, but at least Shadow kinda mellowed down a bit when he started dating Twilight. And Ish...”
“Y-yeah Ish is Ish… but t-that makes everyone but me.” Dylan pointed out. “What do y-you think of me as...me, not as a human.”
Fluttershy looked away for a moment. “Um… Well, I-I think you’re pretty nice…” She looked back at Dylan her face having a slight red tint. “You’ve been so kind ever since we met… A-and, well…”
“W-well?” Dylan raised an eyebrow.
“I… I-I like you, Dylan…”
“O-oh…” Dylan said, slightly taken aback, blushing as well. “W-well… I l-like you too, Fluttershy…”
Fluttershy looked just as shocked as Dylan had, but quickly a happy look spread across her features.
“Fluttershy? Are you al—”
Dylan was cut short by Fluttershy, whom had tackled him in a loving embrace. She proceeded to kiss Dylan, who still failed to process what had just happened, but then slowly pushed back, returning the favor.
Linda woke up, being disturbed by the blankets shifting slightly as the two continued making out. She looked over to the two, recognizing their act of affection. She cocked her head to the side, looking around to see if anypony else had been watching. She looked back at the two, who still seemed focused on making out.
They didn’t look like they were gonna stop anytime soon, either.
“Thanks for walking me back home, Dylan…” Fluttershy smiled warmly. “I r-really enjoyed our little time together.”
“So d-did I.” Dylan returned the smile, looking around as the sun began to set. “Man, it sure is beautiful all the way out here.”
Fluttershy looked around as well, nodding in agreement. “It sure is…” She slowly walked over to her door, opening it softly as she prepared to return home, with Linda following suit. “W-well, t-thanks again…”
“No p-problem…” Dylan began “Y’know, while it is beautiful out h-here… It’s just not…”
“Just not… what?”
“It’s just not nearly as beautiful as y-you…”
Fluttershy’s face became noticeably pink, she turned her head slowly, attempting to hide her blush. “T-thank you…” She looked back inside her house. “W-Well… I should go check on Angel, poor thing’s probably worried about me.”
“A-alright, I’ll, uh, see you later, t-then.”
Fluttershy nodded, quickly, but gently closing the door as she leaned back against it. She sighed a breath of relief, her nerves getting the better of her. She looked down, noticing Angel standing right next to Linda, his arms crossed as he tapped his foot rapidly on the ground. While Linda simply gave her a curious stare, looking towards the window as Dylan began walking away, then looked back at Fluttershy.
“W-What?” She raised an eyebrow.
Angel kept his stance, though he raised his eyebrow knowingly.
Fluttershy looked out the window, seeing Dylan not too far away. “Y-Yeah, he’s a nice stallion, so?”
Linda rolled her eyes. Jumping on a small table near the window, then looked over to Dylan, then back at Fluttershy.
“Y-You want me to call him back?”
Angel jumped up to Linda’s side, using his arms to his advantage, pointing over to Dylan, then pointing downwards.
Fluttershy’s blush grew brighter. “A-Alright, if you two say so…”
Dylan slowly continued his path back to Twilight’s house, unable to stop thinking of today’s recent events.
“Dylan!”
His ear twitched at the sound of his name, he looked back, finding Fluttershy standing by her now open door. Despite being a few feet away, he could still see her smiling as she asked one last thing to him.
“W-would you like to come inside?”
“Twilight?” Shadow called out. “Has Dylan come back yet?”
“Not that I’m aware of, no.” Twilight called back.
“I thought maybe he teleported back home into his room, but I don’t see him.”
“He’s probably just out with Jorge or something...”
Shadow paused for a moment, recalling Dylan having being called by Fluttershy. “You don’t think that Dylan’s still with Fluttershy, do you?”
“The two of them? Alone? They’re both too timid for…”
Shadow blinked, realizing his wife had paused mid-sentence. “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?”
Twilight walked into the hallway. “You don’t actually think… That Dylan and Fluttershy are…”
Shadow’s eyes widened. “We need Jorge. Right now.”
