My wings were broken in several places, the bones in my forelegs smashed to pieces, a long, deep cut running along my stomach, multiple cuts all over my body; staining my deep purple coat, my hind left leg blown off and my dark and flowing tail singed to a crisp, my horn had several nails in it preventing my magic from working. I lay on the grass, as helpless as a newborn foal, not able to do anything. My sword, covered in my own blood lying next to me.
The pony that did this to me stood looming over me as the rain fell down harder than it had in years, the water landing on my body and rolling down into my cuts making them burn like crazy.
The pony in question was tall, even taller than me and had a crisp, white coat. Blue curly mane that covered one of her crystal pink eyes with streaks of gold platted through out it, white wings that were spoiled by the stains of my blood and her cutie mark was simply two white clouds. I knew her as Sunrise Clouds and she was the most innocent and pure pony I had ever met.
At a glance you wouldn’t suspect a pony as innocent as her to be so deadly and spiteful.
I asked with the remaining air I had, “Why did you do this?” My voice was failing with each word but I had to sound strong.
She smirked slightly and replied innocently, “Oh I don’t know… how about you took my siblings away from me? Yeah that sounds about right. My older sister who joined the air force as soon as she was old enough was pretty much ordered to death by your orders. She was slaughtered by changelings, as was my little brother! But that’s not the best part… you know what they did to me when they found me? They dumped my brother’s decapitated head at my hooves and said ‘this is worse than death’ and left without another word. I was blinded by rage and spent years figuring out who had ordered my sister into battle and finally figured out that it was you. I warmed up to you enough that you would trust me and that’s when this plan came into action. Marvelous isn’t it!”
I had slaughtered two ponies and I didn’t even know it? I see now why she did it. If I were in her shoes I would’ve the same if not worse than what she did to me except I didn’t when my parents were taken away from me as a foal.
I coughed slightly, my lungs burning at the action and blood spat on to the ground. “You have every… right to be angry. I have slaughtered many ponies by accident in my lifetime and I was wondering… when someone would finally get me back… and here we are… I can’t reverse time or bring anypony back from the dead but all I can say is sorry… my words mean nothing I know…” I paused to try and get some more air into my constantly failing lungs. “But if you had just said something… I would’ve gone to Celestia or Luna… they have the power to bring back the dead… an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a life for a life… seems about right…”
She smiled crookedly and started pacing around me, thinking things over. I tried to move my legs, one by one. The pain was unimaginable but somehow bearable. I got to my hind left leg and nothing moved. Oh yeah, it had been blown off.
She stood in front of me once more and reached over to my head before turning it as far as it would go. I tried to cry out in pain but nothing would come. I must have looked like a dying fish, my mouth hanging wide open and my rainbow coloured eyes wide open and glazed over.
She pulled her hoof back and let my head fall back down to the ground once more where it belonged. I felt blood start to trickle slowly out of the corner of my mouth, down my face and drip onto the grass.
“Why?” She suddenly said. “Why didn’t you do anything? The countless lives you took and you didn’t do one single thing.”
I smiled weakly, “If I told you, you would want to kill yourself… some things are just better untold and the answer to that question is one of them… but I guess I’ll tell you anyway and add another name to my ever growing list… the reason why I never did anything was because it was their fate and I decided to go with it… fate can easily be changed but I prefer to keep it the way it is…”
She gagged slightly and slammed her hoof hard down on my face. “Monster…”
“I know but listen… fate still plays out the same way it should’ve… If I prevented a life from being killed tomorrow they could still die… I could put off someone aging for years but in the end they would still age… it’s a cycle that cant be broken… everyone has a time and place to die and if you change it they would still die in that exact place but not time… I found it interesting to see the side effects of what happened but in the end it just tormented me… I had a husband once, many years ago and when I noticed that he started to age I tried to prevent it. Yes he did live longer but as a result of it his death came quicker and harsher than it should have… I tried playing god like Celestia but look where it got me… but in the end I deserve this for all of the lives I have taken…”
I saw her smile widen even farther as she replied, “It’s good to know that you still have some humanity and sanity in you but one last thing.”
“Yeah?”
“Any requests before you die?”
I nodded as my muscles screamed in protest at me. “Show me… my cutie mark…” Out of all of the things I could’ve asked for I simply wanted to see my cutie mark.
She nodded, “Fine.” And somehow managed to show me it.
Time seemed to slow down as I looked at it. I thought to myself, “In my whole lifetime I have seen so many people find their cutie mark and find out what it meant but I never did. What did my cutie mark represent? 6 pointed star each representing Harmony, Disharmony, Day, Night, Past, Present? Bat wing? My nightmare side I guess? Feather wing? My flying abilities? Rainbow? I’ve got no clue on that one… The one thing I’ve always wanted to know in life. What it actually means.
I heard Sunrise say, “That’s long enough. Good night ‘Princess’.” I could hear the smirk in her voice as she picked up my sword with her wing and aimed it at me.
I thought to myself again, “Who am I? I am the forgotten Princess of Cloudsdale, the pony cursed to live an immortal life with the ability of every seeing every ponies destiny, the daughter of Queen Nimbus and King Midnight Zodiac, the pony with the unknown cutie mark. I am Spectrum Destiny, the forgotten Princess.”
I felt something pierce my side, then my lung then my heart and finally,
Nothing.
