//-------------------------------------------------------// Hi. i'm a Familiar -by frozen inferno- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// chapter 1: that's new //-------------------------------------------------------// chapter 1: that's new Now, to start off, being dead isn't as weird as you might think. The afterlife is difficult to describe, but I guess you could compare it to an amusement park. You have three different areas: You have the cities and towns all cramped together in one area, which I call the haunting zone, because that's where all the spirits who decide to be ghosts reside. Area two, the doorway, is where new spirits enter and spend a lot their time, because they are still coming to terms with being dead. Then, there's number three, my personal favourite: The Void. Now, you might be wondering why this is my favourite zone. It's because it's like being in space. You get to float around the and look at the stars in total peace. Of course, being dead has its ups and downs. Good news is: I don't need to eat or drink. Bad news is: I can't eat or drink. There are other things that make the afterlife great too, but just as many that make it suck. Kinda like living, now that I think about it. I'm in the void right now, but something is off. That's funny... I don't recognise those stars. I go to take a closer look when suddenly I feel a white hot burning on my wrist. When I looked, I saw a glowing six point purple star. Well, that’s weird. I haven't felt pain since I died. I wonder what's going on. Suddenly, it felt like I was being sucked into a vacuum. I turned to see what I could only guess was a black hole, and with nothing to hold onto, all I could do is let myself be pulled into the hole and speak my mind. "Fucking hell!" Twilight Sparkle had almost finished the magic circle she required to summon her first familiar. Her friends stood behind her, whilst Princess Luna stood in front of her. "Twilight, are you ready?" Luna asked. Twilight nodded. "Then we shall begin." As they performed the spell, a figure in a black cloak appeared. And then the spell paused. Not stopped, but paused. Everyone except Luna looked surprised and horrified at the same time. That is, until Luna spoke. "Well, Grimm. To what do we owe this pleasure?" She asked, as if talking casually with an old friend. Twilight took a closer inspection of the new guest. He appeared to be bipedal, and roughly nine feet tall. He held a large scythe in a hand of bone. She couldn't see his face, however, because of the hood. " Princess Luna. It's always a pleasure to see you. Although, I am surprised that one of my lost souls is going to be brought back as a familiar. " He spoke almost as if he was speaking in their heads "Excuse me, Sir. But what is a lost soul?" Twilight spoke up " Ah. You must be young Twilight. I see you were the one that summoned him. Now, to answer your question, a lost soul is a spirit who can't make it to Elysium or Tartarus, but is stuck in the ghost realm. But don't worry, he's not bad. He's actually very unique. I'm only going to ask for one thing. " "And what would that be?" Twilight asked with concern. " Take good care of him. He has a good heart, but a tragic past. Tormented even up his death, he was only seventeen even then. Far too young to die. But, he did die to save someone else's life." He said with sadness in his voice. "If I can ask a question, what is his name? And what happened to him?” Twilight asked. "His name is James, but his friends just call him Jamie. As for his past, you will have to ask him yourself. I don't think it would be right for me to say it for him. "I do believe it's time we met our new friend, don't you?" Luna asked. "Indeed. I was just filling his mind with all the necessary information he will need to live in Equestria." He stood aside to reveal the human. He was roughly six feet tall, he wore a pair of black combat trousers, a studded white t-shirt with a black dragon on it, some fingerless gloves, a pair of black trainers and a black jacket. He had medium length black hair, his right eye appeared to have silver metallic lines trailing towards his temple, and his eyes were shut so you couldn't see the colour. Twilight was about to ask another question when the human collapsed. "It looks like my work here is done. He will need to rest a little, because his mind took in a lot more information than I initially planned. it was nice seeing you, Luna, but I must be going. Tell Celestia I said hello." "I will. Goodbye, Grimm." Luna said as Grimm disappeared as quickly as he appeared. She then looked down at the young human. "We should make him comfortable for when he wakes up." Owwww... my head. It feels like it's full of needles. Where the hell am I? Looks like a library. Have I finally made it to heaven or something? No, because I can feel pain... Oh, look. A purple unicorn. At this, my brain decided to work again, and information started to fill my mind. Well it was there, but felt like it could only be accessed when needed. "Hello, James. May I call you Jamie?" The purple unicorn asked him. I stared at her in disbelief. Knowing my real name is one thing, but the name only my friends called me was something else entirely. "Okay, before my brain dies again, who are you and how do you know me?" “Oh, sorry. My name is Twilight Sparkle, and these are my friends.” Suddenly, my brain went crazy with information. Twilight Sparkle and her friends Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie are the elements of harmony, which they used to defeat Nightmare Moon and reform her back into Princess Luna nearly a year ago. Twilight Sparkle is also student to Princess Celestia. You are in Equestria, and the reason they know who you are is because the Grimm reaper told them who you were. You are going to serve as Twilight Sparkle’s familiar. What the fuck just happened? “Never mind. The second question I think my brain just answered it for me.” That really hurt. I mean, seriously. Why would remembering something hurt so much? "I feel like the victim of a failed lobotomy. Oww..." Twilight stepped towards me, and her horn started to glow. I felt a warm sensation wash over me, and the pain just faded away. I looked up at her. "Thanks... was that magic?" She nodded. "Huh, I wonder why I'm not more surprised. So, I'm your familiar, and to answer your question, yes. You may call me Jamie." "Actually, you’re not my familiar yet. First I have to make a contract with you," she said. I guess that makes sense, but what about the mark on my wrist? "Okay, but I have one question. Do you know what this is?" I said, showing my wrist and pointing at the mark. Twilight looked confused, but then Princess Luna stepped forward. "That is very rare. It appears you soul has already chosen twilight. This means you shall become a powerful familiar, and a force to be reckoned with." "Well, I guess that gets that part out of the way. Anyway, are you gonna introduce me to your friends?" I said Twilight was suddenly snapped out of whatever train of thought she was riding and was back in reality. "Oh, yeah. Jamie, these are my best friends. Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, Applejack and Fluttershy," she said. "Sup." "Hello." "Hi!" "Howdy." "I-it's nice to m-meet you..." "You too. I still can't believe I'm taking this so well. I guess that's what happens when you've been dead for five hundred years, you just stop getting surprised. And the fact the Grimm reaper filled my head full of information." At this, everyone in the room looked at me with expressions that were a mix of shock, horror and curiosity. Even Princess Luna looked surprised. "If we might be so bold to ask, how did you pass on?" Princess Luna asked, I froze at this question. "If it's alright with you, I'd rather not talk about that at the moment." With each word, you could probably feel the temperature in the room drop a few degrees, and I quickly realised this. "Sorry, I just don't like talking about it, but maybe when I get to know you girls better, I'll be willing to share that story." I said, trying to be less intimidating. "Just give me time." This seemed to calm them. We were silent for a few minutes, before Princess Luna broke it. "As much as it was good seeing you Twilight, we must be going. We must lower our moon for our sister’s sun in a few hours. We shall meet again, Jamie, and I'm sure our sister will want to meet you too. But until then, we bid thee farewell." And then, in a bright flash, she was gone. I saw twilight saying goodbye to her friends. They waved at me as they left, until it was just me and Twilight. "So.. what now?" I asked. This caught her by surprise. "What do you mean?" "Well, most people, or ponies for this matter, summon familiars to perform tasks or for protection. So... what now?" "Well, I was actually ask by Celestia to summon a familiar as a test of some form, I guess it was to learn more about friendship by befriending you." She said, not sure of it herself. "Well, I guess that leaves one thing to do." I said. She looked at me with confusion, but then caught on. "Oh, yeah! Jamie would you like to be my friend?" she asked almost nervously. "Sure. I'd love to be your friend," I said with a smile. a world of magical ponies, a new friend, a new life this could be interesting.
