Hidden Facades

Deep in the recesses of a dark cave, quartz crystals crackled with electricity. The blue charges flashed and flickered, illuminating the walls of smooth stone and white jewels.

A serpentine mass slithered along the stones, extending its arms and legs to hoist itself forward. It slithered up a slope, drawn to another chamber. It snaked into the cavern, laced with blue jewels of all shades.  A piece of lapis lazuli pulsed on a pedestool, it's thrumming power drawing the creature closer.

The serpent laid a clawed arm on the gem, taking the power for itself. It slid it into a slot on it's chest, the jewel perfectly placed in it's setting. Dark, twisted laughter began to echo around the room, and the creature sliding back towards the entrance. The crystal catacombs did not confuse it, as it crawled towards the exit.

Soon enough, it came to the entrance, where it open it's two pairs of wings, and flew away into the dark of the night.

Celestia stirred in her bed. She slowly started to yawn, stretching to try to fend of the sleepiness. She opened her eyes, looking around her dark room. She slowly slid out of bed, not quite awake. Celestia cast a small light spell, enough to illuminate the room.

After the princess prepared herself for another day, she walked out the door, into the halls of the castle. She found her way through them, the darkness fleeing from her horn. Celestia soon enough came to a glass door, and behind it, the courtyard. She opened the door, to see Luna waiting for her.

"Is it time, Sister?"

"Yes it is Luna," Celestia replied with a smile.

Luna's horn soon began to glow with indigo light, as the moon began to lower beneath the horizon, following Luna's lowering head.

Halfway through Luna's motion, Celestia's own horn began to glow, as she began to rise up until she was on her hind legs, the sun's glow coloring the sky in many different colors.

A dark shape flew from underneath the castle, it's four wings making it's sillouete all the more unique. It flew between the royal sisters and the sun, and Celestia immediately noticed it.

Something was wrong. Celestia stopped as soon as she realized what it was. "No..," she whispered, her eyes following the creature.

"Sister, is something wrong?" Luna asked, stepping closer.

"Nothing. It's okay," Celestia lied, focusing back on her task. The sun resumed it's path upward, until it took a place directly above the castle. Everything is not okay.

Celestia sighed, looking at her desk. She pulled a piece of parchment from the top of a neat pile with her magic, and laid it out in front of her. She glanced out the window, overlooking Ponyville and a crystal castle. Princess Celestia took her quill, and began to write.
