What Really Happened on Hearth's Warming Eve
Twilight Sparkle and Spike were in the Star Swirl The Bearded Wing trying to find a spell that Twilight saw before. They were looking through scrolls in the room with a few minutes of silence until Spike spoke up, ”So... what are we looking for again?”
”Ugh! I already told you Spike! We are looking for a spell that can increase a unicorn's magic.”, said Twilight annoyed, but not mad, “I saw a glimpse of it when we were trying to find a time traveling spell when I saw future Twilight.”
“Oh right! I remember that time! You were so frantic about the future all week long. Then it turned out to be nothing!”, Said Spike, giggling a bit, Twilight Sparkle than began to get a little mad for that tease, but quickly got over it.
A moment or two later, Spike found a scroll with an interesting spell in it, “I found something!” he said.
“Did you find the spell?”, said Twilight flying over the scrolls on the floor to get to him.
”Um...no, but what I found you might like just as much."
“Gasp, a time traveling spell!” Said Twilight “I didn't know Star Swirl had another one!”
“Unlike the first one,” Spike said, “You can go to the past, present and future lasting forever until it's used again, but you can only use it once a week.”
Twilight was thinking for a second until she said, “You know what, forget the magic spell, we are going time traveling!”
“We can be like Doctor Whooves!” Said Spike, “I can the Doctor who regenerated into a dragon, and you can be my assistant!”
Twilight rolled her eyes. She then gasped and said “hey, we should invite our friends too! I mean, who would pass out on time traveling!”
"I don't know, but I do know we need some sleep", said Spike yawning as he started to lay on the floor as if he were to sleep on it, "and there's no way I'm passing that one out", he said as his voice got softer and softer.
"Okay Spike, we can go to sleep. But first you have to help me put all of these scrolls back", the alicorn said looking at all of the scrolls on the floor. She then jumped a little when she heard Spike snoring. She wasn't afraid that he was asleep, the noise just startled her. She walked up to him and smiled as she put a blanket over him with her magic. "But on the other hoof, I can do it" she said talking to herself.
The next morning, Twilight, AppleJack, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, PinkiePie, Rarity and Spike were in Twilight's castle, in the room with the map and chandelier made from the roots of the Golden Oak Library. “Now listen up everypony, I have some pretty big news,” said Twilight.
“it's not bad news is it?”, said Fluttershy, sounding worried.
“No Fluttershy, it's not" the yellow pony sighed with relief. Twilight then said in a loud and happy voice, "We are going Time Traveling!”
Everypony was shocked with their mouths wide opened. "Time travelin'?" AppleJack said
Then Pinkie said with a confused voice, "didn't you already do that?"
"Well yes Pinkie, but that spell was only for one person and it only lasted a few seconds. This spell, however, can bring many ponies along the ride and has no time limit!"
Rainbow Dash then said excitedly, "Y-Y-YEAH! This is gonna be sweet! Actual time traveling? How awesome is that?"
"We could save my parents!" Applejack said with joy.
"I'm sorry AppleJack, for you and for your family", Twilight said.
"What?!" AppleJack said, worried about what Twilight was about to say. AppleJack knew she was going to tell her "no". She was right, because the next thing Twilight said was just that.
"You can't save your parents", she said with guilt, but truth.
"What!? Why?" AppleJack said.
"I've read books on traveling before and they say if you change history in a way that it wasn't like before, it could rip apart the universe! For example I was able to warn my past self about the future because that scene happened, and I remembered it. Say if I instead went into a time where the future me didn't come, like if I wanted to talk to my filly self right when I got my cutie mark? Because that didn't happen that means that it can't happen. In other words. . you can't save you're parents."
AppleJack sighed, and then said, "ok".
"And that goes for everyone" Twilight said, "wherever we go, we can't change the past. If we do the consequences could be disastrous".
"But where do you reckon' we should go?" Applejack said.
The alicon thought as she put her hoof on her chin, thinking. ”I think we should all vote on it", said Rarity.
“I vote on one of Daring Do's adventures!”, said RainbowDash.
AppleJack said "I want to vote witnessing the beginning of Ponyville!"
"How about the beginning of the universe? Then we can see if the Atheists or Creationists are right", Rarity said with interest in mind, she never quite chose a side on that one.
PinkiePie then joined in saying “I want to see the super parties at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza!”
"You do know it's not a real place right? Scott Cawthon just made it up?", said Rainbow Dash to the party pony.
"I know. But I still want to see it! We can go to 1987!"
"I don't think that's how a time spell works", said Rainbow.
"Everypony listen!", Twilight said in a loud voice with authority, "we need to chose one together." She then started to think out load in a quiet voice, "Hmm let's see. What would be a cool thing to witness? That everyone would like? Maybe something historical like...", a spark lit in her brain, she had the place. The mare then spoke up again and said, "how about Hearth's Warming Eve?"
“That sound pretty interestin'!” said Applejack.
“Ooooo! I could still see their style of fashion!” said Rarity, "I just hope it's not too out of style".
“I bet they had a super cool party after they found Equestria!” said Pinkie Pie excitedly.
“And I could see the extinct animals!”, said FlutterShy.
“It's settled then, we go see Hearth's Warming Eve", said the princess.
The next day, the mane six were back in the castle. Twilight was wearing the Clover the Clever costume from The Hearth's Warming Eve play. Twilight was looking at Spike and said, “are you sure you'll be okay staying here?”
“Of course I will, somepony's gotta keep this place running. Besides it doesn't matter if you stay there for months! It will only be a few seconds for me.”, said Spike, not knowing that they would stay there for months without planning to.
“I sure am glad I have a friend like you Spike,”, Twilight said, hugging him like he was her brother. She then walked up to the others and asked, ”Is everypony ready?”
“Yup,” said Applejack.
“I even got my party cannon!”, Said PinkiePie pulling out her party cannon, she then activated it by clicking the switch, but nothing happened. She started to spam it, clicking it over and over again to try to get it to work, but it still didn't work. The pony then looked inside the cannon hole to see what was blocking it, and then it activated, shooting streamers balloons and cake into PinkiePie's face. Even though she was just shot, it put a smile on her face, and then she laughed a little.
“maybe you should leave that hear”, said RainbowDash.
"Aww but I wanna give the ponies a surprise!", Pinkie protested.
"Oh they will get a surprise all right. When they see us from the future!" Rainbow said.
Twilight protested back at Rainbow saying, "they won't get a surprise at all seeing us. Remember, we can't change the past, we can only observe it. So let's try to keep history the way it is so we don't tear the space time continuum."
Rarity then realized how dangerous this is and how cautious they had to be, "Twilight, this is a very dangerous thing for us to do. Is this illegal?"
"In some countries, but not Equestria! We're safe. But we do have to be carful." The others all looked at each other with fear and concern for what they are doing.
“Hey uh, hope you don't mind me askin' but why in carnation are ya wearing the Clover The Clever costume from the Hearth's Warmin' Eve play?”, asked Applejack.
“if anypony from the olden time sees an alicorn they are unfamiliar with, it might mess up time.”
“Its also an appropriate fashion choice,” said Rarity.
“Okay, let's do this already” RainbowDash said. Twilight Sparkle then activated the time spell, her horn quickly glue, everypony's eyes turned white. The spell was giving off a bright light that blinded Spike a little bit. A quick flash later, and they were gone.
Author's Note
The scene when AppleJack cries might seem out of place. Or just weird to have the mood change and then change back so fast. But it is actually foreshadowing for another fan fic I plan on writing.
