A Night of Myth and Legends

The Living and The Mute

Previous Chapter

The mute unicorn stallion stood there in a kilt. He didn't mind the funny looks, and even if he did he couldn't say much about them.

Not that him in a kilt earned him the looks, it was the fact that his right cheek was ripped off, baring his teeth for all to see. He'd lost his cheek the same day he lost his tongue, which was the same day the Royal Guard refused to take him seriously when he wrote to them about a threat to Canterlot and all of Equestria.

No matter, he was right, he was a warrior, and when the shit hit the fan, he'd survive, he always had.

Next to the steel grey maned stallion was a pegasus mare, slight build, pearl blue coat, with a emerald coloured mane and tail and sapphire hued eyes.

She'd been the only one to believe him, after all, she'd been the one to see the gruesome act when he'd had his tongue removed. She'd also been the one to save him and nurse him back to health.

"The white-grey mare is still following us, is she not?"

Nod.

"Hmmm, should we just down her?"

Shake.

"Why not?"

Nod to the left, into an alley, then a second nod to the right, on a balcony.

"Ah, yes backup. Well then, make a stand?"

The noncommital grunt and shrug of his shoulders told her that he meant they might as well.

"Right then. Around this corner and..... NOW!"

The Mare whipped a cross bow out from under a cloak she was wearing, while the Scoltspony hefted a claymore.

They both turned to find a blind pony.

The mare giggled at her over reaction, and the Scoltspony had a 'grin' on his face.

"Excuse me, but I'm looking for somepony." stated the blind stallion.

"Yes, and who would that be? Perhaps I can help?"

"I believe you already have. You are Aria, no. Your vocal pattern is nearly spot on. Your steps indicate a feminine or small frame. Your tone and pitch also indictae you of being female. The silence from your friend, mixed with his sure heavy steps, imply that he is MacKenzie, the Scoltlander I've been looking for."

MacKenzie, not eager to trust this too knowledgable stallion, stepped forward to grab at him when a spearbutt knocked his hoof aside.

"That's not very nice friend. He only said he was looking for you!" replied the oddest Pegasus that Aria had ever seen.

It was then that the white-grey mare from earlier showed up. "Ah nice to see evrypony's met each other! Anyway, if you two would be so kind as to follow me I'll explain on the way. I would ask you to help, but that was troublesome with the first two, so it's an order."

Aria and MacKenzie shrugged. If there was trouble later, they'd fight out.

"We have a large enough force, sir, if we strike at night we can take down Dodge Junction in one go."

"Excellent plan!" cackled Commander Screech.

"Also, we have reports of a Equestrian defense being raised."

"Ah, so our mute friend has raised a few flags after all, oh well, naught to be done about that."

The four Ponies were going through the dossier's on each other as they got acqainted.

"I take it that's all false?" chuckled Scopes.

"Of course! I would never have murdered a guard! I stepped on a rake and it swung up and hit his sword into his throat. It was all accidental!" Aria protested.

"So you guys all realize why they wanted us right?" dug Jecht.

"I don't know."

Shrug

"Many variables, we are after all, all considered criminals. Caught for execution, no, too routine, not enough guards. Hmmm. Bait, no, we're too smart for that. Imprisonment, still not enough guards."

"Simple, we are all considered criminals, and we all have unique skills and talents that help put together a good tactical team." started Jecht.

"Which means they want to use us to fight a threat, most likely the Hippogriffs!" beamed Aria, "See, I told you they'd have to listen MacKenzie!"

"So this is it. A scientist, a recon, a medic, and a lumbering behemoth of a stallion! Crack squad of random ponies that would never be expected. Equestrians obviously desperate." muttered Scopes.

The four ponies continued to chat amongst themselves until the carriage finally came to a halt. The doors swung open to reveal a small outpost. Exiting, they found themselves directed to a barracks.

Samara was inside waiting for them.

"I hopw you found the trip enjoyable? Anyway, you're staying here for the night.

Armoury is over there, next to that is a lab for and scientific or medical needs. Beds are right next to the labs, and the kitchen next to that. I'll see you all in the morning.

Each went there seperate way.

MacKenzie lumbered off to the kitchen, stomach growling.

Aria and Scopes both dashed for the labs, and Jecht went to explore the armoury.

Come morning, they were going to make quite the first impression.
