A Derpy Adventure
A normal day
Load Full StoryDitzy yawned as she awoke from her slumber and attempted to untangle herself from her sheets. Rather than escaping them, she rolled off the bed and landed with a thump onto the floor “Ouch” she frowned in a slightly puzzled way, standing. Her yellow eyes scanned her room as she stretched her pale grey wings. Her room was small, and neatly kept. A few books lay flat on the sturdy, wooden desk, and a few ornaments and littered the windowsill. Pictures were stuck on random parts of the walls. But those weren’t the most obvious things. Far more were the signs of were and tear. Her desk had cracks along the legs. Every picture hid a hole or crack, and the door frame had more chips than a chip factory. She frowned a little, but then simply smiled “Ah well Ditzy Do. We can’t all be ballet dancers” she giggled to herself. She smiled at the large picture above her bed “Good morning” she greeted it as she did every morning. Then she headed down to get breakfast. As she passed the clock she looked up at it. It took her couple of seconds to register how late she was “Oh no!” she gasped. She slung her mailbags over her back and bolted out the door.
“Hey Ditzy! You just got morning shift right?” called a gangly chestnut stallion with an unfortunately curly mane as she raced into the post office. She nodded, breathless, and went to her pigeon hole to get the mail she had to deliver for the day. He trotted along besides her “Well a bunch of us are going down to the park to have a picnic later. You want to come?” he asked her, reaching up to get his own mail deliveries for the day. She turned her head away a little “Oh, I dunno Post Haste. I’ve got a lot of stuff to do. I want to take some books out and...” she trailed off. Truth was she was just afraid if she went she’d end up breaking something. She never tried to. She just didn’t know what went wrong... “Oh, ok” Post Haste shrugged, flicking his hat onto his head and carefully stepping into his jacket “Well if you change your mind then just come on down, ok? Oh, and bring some of those famous muffins of yours!” he called out as he noticed another pegasi fly in “Hey! Raindrops!” he called as he went. Ditzy shook her head slightly at the sight of him running. He was almost as clumsy on land as she was in the air. She checked her list and smiled at the selection. Not a bad day at all.
“No Mr. Cake. That’s the only mail we have for you. I know it’s not the right recipe. I’m sorry. I’ll ask. Sorry? A cupcake? I’d love one!”
“Hello Twilight! Yes, I have ‘The art of the checklist volume sixteen’ for you. Oh, and could I borrow that flight for beginners book again?”
“Hiya Rose! I have those seeds for your lilies”
Ditzy smiled as she handed over her final package “I bumped into a tree earlier and something inside exploded, sorry” she apologized to the pink mare with crazy curls. Pinkie giggled
“That’s ok! I was supposed to...I think!” she smiled, taking the package inside. Ditzy turned to go home when she heard the first line of it.
“Bumped into a tree? Who does that?” a snide lilac pegasi frowned to her companion. They tittered as she passed “Who else but Derpy Hooves?” the other responded, crossing her eyes in a cruel impression. Ditzy let her head fall forward to cover her eyes and plodded back home with a heavy heart. Five steps. Four. Two. At the gate. She stopped dead as she saw a pony sat beside her front door. A mare with a scruffy grey mane and a shiny yellow coat, with bright shiny wings. Her green explorer’s jacket was still covered in mud from her latest adventure, her pink eyes a little nervous at the sight of Ditzy. Ditzy froze “No...It can’t be!” she muttered. She flicked her mane from her eyes and peered closer “It is! Daring Do!” she exclaimed, eyes wide. Daring Do shuffled her hooves awkwardly and peered at Ditzy from under the brim of her hat “Hey Cuz” she smiled.
