Descendants of Harmony - Age of War
“My grandmother would always tell me stories about life before the war. Life in equestria was peaceful and harmonious, as the sister princesses of legend and the six elements of harmony worked to keep order and balance across Equestria. But sadly, that was long ago.
“No one knows exactly what happened, but the princesses started aging, fast, and because of this they’re bodies started to wither to dust. With only the princess of Friendship and the elements of harmony left for Equestria, the Griffon Empire, lead by their new ruler by the name Heydrich, saw this as a sign of weakness, and so they attacked our once beautiful kingdom.
“One by one the elements of harmony fell, whether it was in combat, on the home front, or simply of old age, they all died off, other than the dear sweet princess of friendship, who was cursed with the immortality of the allicorn.
“The war has been going on for nearly one hundred years, and no one can see a stop to it coming, but I believe that some day, it will end…”
On the top of an old hillside, under the branches of an old apple tree, a young pegasus mare lays down as she looked up to the stars in the heavens, admiring the beauty of this world. Everything was serene from the soft wind blowing across her rainbow fringe to the grass she felt in her light violet hands. She had come up here nearly every night for a month now, and she always came for the same reason, to think.
What was this young mare thinking of exactly was a bit of an oddity. She had looked up at the stars and wished she were able to join the ranks of her late older brother, to head forth into battle and face the griffon empire head on. She had a strong loyalty to her country, though that loyalty she felt would only go so far until she were able to join the army. But she also thought of her mother, who had already lost one child and a husband. Her mother would be heartbroken if she were to lose this mare too. So all this mare could do for now was lay down against the tree and think.
She couldn’t help but admire what appeared to be a shooting star, finding it rather beautiful, a nice change compared to the still landscape. As she observed, she couldn’t help but think of her goal, to join the army, and she felt it was the right thing to do, though she still had to think.
Who was this mare, you might be asking. She goes by the name Rainbow Spark.
Meanwhile, in a place not quite as peaceful, a unicorn stallion stood tall and gave off an emotionless face as he looked to the sky, holding binoculars as he observed what would be nightmares to most soldiers. He pulled a small two way radio to his mouth and held down the button to transmit. “Two Unidentified Iron Birds coming into sector foxtrot-six. Should we prepare surface to air strike? Over.”
A few seconds passed before a strong yet calming voice replied with “Not yet, Captain, see if they pose a threat first. Over.”
“Roger that,” the stallion replied as he kept looking to the sky. The iron birds were at least 5 kilometers away, but they were visible clear as day. Suddenly, something dropped from the iron birds and they just flew off. He pulled his radio to his mouth. “They’re dropping something! I think it’s a bomb!”
The voice replied again. “Prepare surface to air strike now!”
“Right away brigadier,” the stallion replied frantically before putting down the radio. “Troops, prepare two SAMs for launch!” He looked back to see his squad in rushing to prepare a missile, but it was too late, as they heard a rather large blast from the drop zone.
Looking back at the blast, the stallion’s eyes widened in horror as his vision started to go pure white in a blinding flash of light, the sound of thunder roaring in his ears as he felt his skin bubble and burn at the same time. His skin started to peal off as the thunder only grew louder before he lost consciousness, and then life.
At a safer distance, another stallion, one with a violet mane and grey coat, was looking on at the scene in shock. He kept a close eye on the blast, a large fiery cloud in the shape of a mushroom had appeared where most of Manehattan had once stood. “Dammit..” He then threw his two way radio down. “DAMMIT!”
