The Midnight Sky
Midnight's Mindset
Previous ChapterTwilight waved her hoof in front of Midnight's face, while giggling a little.
"Hello? Equestria to Midnight!"
"Huh, what?"
"We were talking about how I couldn't spend the day with you, and you just zoned out."
"I... uh, sorry Twilight. I was just... thinking."
Twilight laughed, "Yeah, 'thinking'."
"Hey, Twilight, c'mon. This is serious!"
"Yeah, serious just like how I liked that one colt in middle school."
"Oh, yeah," Midnight sighed, "Look, Twilight, I'm sorry about that. I didn't mean to tell him but-"
"Well, you did. Then, I cried for an hour."
"At least I was there to comfort you."
Twilight sighed, "Look, I'm sorry I got angry, it's just that... I guess I don't want to screw up like you did, because I don't want you to go through that pain."
Midnight smiled, "You won't do anything like that, if I know you at all. Fluttershy was telling me a story about when she was a model and-"
"Yeah, I'm sure you paid attention to the rest of her story after she said 'model'. "
" I did, actually. And it was quite the interesting story."
"Oh, yeah? Then what was the name of the pony who took all of the photos?"
"uhh, Finished Photograph, was it?"
"Close, but no."
"Okay, then what was it?"
"Not telling."
"Aww, c'mon, Sparkle!"
"Nope. You'll just have to find out for yourself. Sparkle, god I haven't heard that nickname in forever."
"Ha, yeah. I remember calling you that a ton when I was in high school."
"Yeah, I remember calling you 'doofus', not that it wasn't true."
They both laughed at the memory of the days of their days together when they were fillies.
"So, what did you say about you not being able to spend the day with me?"
"Unfortunately, I cannot spend the day with you, because I have some duties to attend to."
"You do? What kind of duties?"
"I have to have a conference with the mayor. I tried to get it moved around, but I couldn't reason with the mayor. She said she had 'no other open times' for the conference. But, I should be done by about three o'clock today, so you should have to stimulate yourself, however hard that may be."
"No, it should be easy, seeing as I've never really been to Ponyville before."
"Yes, well, have fun. I'm off."
"Alright, Sparkle. Enjoy your conference."
Twilight then called out a goodbye to Spike, then left.
After a few minuets of sipping her coffee, Midnight got up, called a goodbye to Spike as well, then set out into the town. Although she was a city pony, Midnight quite enjoyed some of the smaller, more country areas too. As she walked around, looking at shops, many ponies gave her a 'welcome', or a 'nice to have you', and occasionally the ask for an autograph, seeing as she was on Bridleway. But after walking around the town for about an hour, she decided to really go through the country area of Ponyville. She had heard from one of her cast mates that Ponyville had some of the most beautiful country, so she thought she'd figure out for herself. She set out for the hills, but stopped immediately. On the closest hill, she saw Fluttershy sitting with some animals, singing a tune to herself. It was very familiar to Midnight, because it just so happened to be a showtune. It was from the show, 'Hinny of the Hills', which was the show that Midnight Solo had just done.
"Perhaps I had a wicked fillyhood, perhaps I had a miserable youth. But somewhere in my wicked, miserable past, there must have been a moment of truth. For here you are, standing there, loving me, weather or not you should."
Midnight Solo was taken aback by Fluttershy's singing. She had never heard a sweater tune in her life.
But Fluttershy didn't notice Midnight Solo looking at her, so she continued, "So somewhere in my youth, or fillyhood, I must have done something good."
Midnight smiled. She knew the words to this song by heart, and was singing along in her head.
"Nothing comes from nothing, nothing ever could, so somewhere in my youth, or fillyhood, I must have done something good."
At this point, since in the musical their would be just music playing, Fluttershy was swaing her head, as though to the slow music which would be playing. But after that music would be done, Captain von Trot would sing, instead of Maria, the main character. Midnight had played the Captain, so she knew the words and the tune to his part very well, and was so entranced that she didn't even notice she was singing. Neither did Fluttershy, who was even listening to Midnight sing in her deep voice. (Midnight is an alto).
"For here you are, standing there, loving me, weather or not you should."
"So, somewhere in my youth," Fluttershy started up again, "or fillyhood. I must have done something good."
Then there was the duet, where both of the ponies who happened to be singing it, didn't really realize that the other was singing.
"Nothing comes from nothing," They sang, "nothing ever could."
"So somewhere in my youth," Fluttershy started
"Or fillyhood," Midnight finished.
"I must have done something," Fluttershy started again, then they both finished together,
"Something good."
Now, in the play, this is when Maria and the Captain would kiss, and as you would have it, Fluttershy and Midnight were close to doing so, until they both opened their eyes.
Midnight blushed and didn't say anything, but Fluttershy was so surprised that she screamed. But as we all know, Fluttershy doesn't scream very loudly.
"I-I'm sorry I startled you. I just had to sing along, 'cause I actually just did Hinny of the Hills, and your singing was so pretty and-"
"Wait, you thought my singing was... pretty?"
Midnight smiled and said, "Well, yeah! It was one of the best voices I've ever heard, and I work with tons of singers daily!"
Fluttershy looked away and blushed.
"Your voice was pretty as well"
"What? Sorry, I couldn't hear you."
"Y-your voice was p-pretty as well."
Midnight blushed, and said "Thank you"
Many thoughts were running through Midnight's head at that moment. 'Should I tell her, or will there be a better time? What better time could there be, you just sang a duet together! I know, but that might ruin the moment. I bet she'll say no anyways. Just do it, who cares? I do! Well, clearly you don't, because you're actually just talking to yourself in your brain.'
Luckily, this brain talk thing didn't last long, and Midnight came to an executive decision.
"Hey, Fluttershy?"
"Yes?"
"Look, I know we just met and all but... When I first saw you, with all your beauty and grace, I felt a connection, and my heart started to race and... Well, I was sort-of in love. But then I got to know you better and I wasn't just sort-of in love, I was in love. Your personality is amazing, I mean you're so caring and compassionate... Honestly, I don't know how your other friends aren't in love with you! I mean, it must be amazing just knowing the beautiful and extraordinary Fluttershy! Oh, and then I heard your singing voice, god your singing voice! I was entranced, and-"
But Midnight was cut off by Fluttershy. Fluttershy usually wasn't this assertive, but she felt a push, almost, compelling her to do so. Fluttershy leaned forward and kissed Midnight on the cheek. Fluttershy was already blushing madly by the words that Midnight had said, but now you could mistake her for Big Macintosh she was so red. Midnight was almost a mirror of Fluttershy at the moment as well.
"You..I... what?"
Fluttershy blushed, and said, "Nopony's ever called me beautiful, not with authenticity. Nopony's ever said such great words about my personality, and Nopony's ever used extraordinary to describe me. Nopony's ever made me feel... In love."
"Well, all that I said was true. You truly are beautiful and extraordinary. And may I have the pleasure of taking the beautiful and extraordinary Fluttershy to lunch?" Midnight said as she bowed.
Fluttershy giggled, and replied, "Yes, you may," and Fluttershy curtsied.
Midnight held her hoof out for Fluttershy to link onto. Fluttershy did so, smiled, and began a conversation with Midnight Solo, feeling as though she was on top of the world, as did Midnight.
