Once upon a time, in the magical land of Equestria, there were four regal sisters who ruled in unison and created harmony for all the land. The sisters were beloved by their subjects and all was well. Yet, it is an immutable law of magic that nothing good may last forever.

Centuries have passed since the days of the Tetrarchy. The sun and moon sit motionless at the horizon, their former stewards having long since faded into legend; love and friendship have become foreign concepts to most. The lands and skies between scattered pony settlements have grown wild, while a malevolent magic spreads from the north, growing thicker with the passage of years. In this new world, six ponies will rediscover the Magic of Friendship.
