The Mare on the Moon

Over 1,000 years ago, a Princess by the name of Luna turned on her elder sister in an attempt to overthrow her. Her elder sister, Celestia, tried to stop her, but had failed. She did what she could to prevent hurting her young sister, but it was inevitable. She had allowed Luna to turn into a corrupt and evil soul, a choice she has regretted her entire life. They had battled for many hours and had destroyed many items that today would be considered priceless. Near the end of their long and sour battle, it seemed that Luna would defeat her sister and take over the throne. But, in a final, tough and controversial decision, Celestia used 6 magical gems, called the Elements of Harmony, to end the bitter battle and banish her sister to the moon for a thousand winters.

With Luna no longer present to raise and lower the moon, Princess Celestia had forced herself to learn the powers of her sister so the beings of Equestria wouldn't perish from the blazing sun. Everypony who was living to hear of this event told the story to their foals, and continued to be told from generation to generation. Eventually, the story had become warped so much that it no longer told the story of a jealous sister, but of an evil demon who would come after you every Nightmare Night if you weren't cautious. Celestia had allowed it. She had allowed her own sister become a fabled demon and didn't do anything about it. Why didn't she? She was scared. She believed that if she were to tell of the banishment of her sister to the new generations, fear would overrun the planet  and would fall into a pit of anarchy. It was a choice she regretted.

Luna had her own share of remorse. Being on the moon for years gives you more than enough time to think about the error of your ways and how it all could have been prevented. She had forgiven her sister for banishing her to the moon, but she never really forgave herself for the irreplaceable damage she had caused. Not only that, but she had been bound to the moon and was to stay there for a millennium before she could see a living being again. She was sure that she would lose her sanity, but miraculously did not. After many years of waiting, she and her sister had been reunited thanks to Twilight Sparkle and her 5 friends. Only recently had she truly forgiven herself after nearly destroying the planet again. Luna, Celestia and everypony else became happy.

But there is just one problem here; how did she survive for 1,000 years?
