Chapter 1: Waking Up

"Honestly dear, just accept that no one in this world will ever love you."

Scootaloo sat on the living room floor, listening to yet another berating speech from her mother. She was mostly used to this by now, and she knew that her mother would eventually get bored of talking, and move on to something else. Today, that something else was a bottle of extra hard cider, which she had sitting unopened on the table next to her. It was only a matter of time before she would open the bottle, and pass out from its contents. Until then, however...

"If you didn't have her horn so far up your ass, you'd realize that she and that Apple filly are horrible ponies to have around! I mean, sure: horns feel good when inserted into your --"

"And now she's talking about sex again." Thought Scootaloo. "At least she's not asking me if I feathered Apple Bloom this time. Hmm, I wonder what it'd be like to feather somepony. Has Rainbow Dash ever done it? Heh, of course she has, she's Rainbow Dash. I wonder if she'd feather me..."

Shaking that thought out of her head, she realized that the room had grown silent, indicating that her mother was no longer conscious. She could also feel a slight wetness between her legs, but her mind was too distracted to care.

"Thanks for the life advice, mom." Scootaloo said sarcastically under her breath, before walking out of the room, in search of her scooter. She knew that her mother would likely wake up sometime in the middle of the night, and from past experience, she didn't want to be anywhere near her when she did. The last time her mother got like this, Scoot decided to go to bed after she had finished her speech, only to be awoken by a sharp pain between her legs several hours later.

Needless to say, it was not an experience that she wanted to repeat any time soon. Thankfully, one of the perks of being a Cutie Mark Crusader, is that you have full access to the clubhouse. Apple Bloom was even kind enough to keep a couple of pillows and a blanket or two in the corner at all times, just in case we ever had another impromptu sleepover.

Opening the front door, Scootaloo wheeled her scooter outside, trying to be as quiet as possible. Once safely outside, she put on her helmet, stepped onto her scooter, and propelled herself forward at breakneck speeds.

Scootaloo was moving faster than ever before, causing ponies to dodge out of her way as she zoomed through the streets of Ponyville.

Unfortunately, she didn't see the white unicorn filly that was standing directly in her path, nor did the filly see an orange blur heading straight for her.

The air was pierced by a deafening scream as the two collided together.

"No one will ever love you." Said my mother in a whisper. "You're just a useless chicken, never able to fly, or do anything of value. Doesn't matter how much you cluck, you'll always be a tiny unloved chicken."

"Don't listen to her, squirt. I'm here for ya, always and forever. That's what sisters are for."

"Oh, she's your sister, is she? Rainbow Dash will never truly love you, Scootaloo. She can never show you the true pleasure of love. She'll never lay a single feather in you, no matter how much you beg or plead. She doesn't love you like a mare, she loves you like a sister."

"Don't listen to her, kiddo. She's just trying to get into your head."

"Is it true, though? Do you only love me like a sister?"

"Well, duh! Of course I love you like a sister. I wouldn't trade what we've got for anything."

"See? She doesn't love you like you want her to. She only sees you as a filly, and I bet if given the choice, she would--"

"I love you"

"Sweetie Belle? Is that you? Where are you?"

"It isn't the same without you."

"Without me? What do you mean? I'm right here! Hey, Sweetie! I'm right here!"

"Just wake up."

"Wake up. But I'm..."

"Sweetie, it's time to come home, darling. Scootaloo will still be here in the morning."

"Oh, right. I crashed my scooter."

"Just a little longer, Rarity? Please, what if she wakes up, and nopony is around? She'll be scared, and alone, and she'll think that we all abandoned her! I.. I need to stay here. Please Rarity, please!"

"I'm in the hospital."

"I'm sorry, Sweetie, but we have to leave. Visiting hours are over."

"Sweetie, it's okay. I'll be okay."

"I'm not leaving."

"Sweetie, just go. You're going to get in trouble if you stay."

"Sweetie Belle..."

"Rarity, I can't leave. I..."

"I know, Sweetie, I know. I'll see if I can get you a bed for the night. I'll be back in a couple of minutes. Will you be okay on your own?"

"Thanks Rarity, and I'll be fine. Scootaloo will be with me."

"Sweetie, you... are an amazing friend."

"Now that it's just us, I need to tell you something, and you can't laugh. Scootaloo, I lo~ve you."

Sweetie felt an immense magical energy from deep within her. It circulated throughout her young body, growing in power as it expanded its magical essence. She soon felt her horn light up with her aura, and the room was cast aglow with a warm green coloured light. The magic was expelled from her body in a gust of raw current, channelling itself directly into Scootaloo’s sleeping form.

Sweetie was no longer capable of intelligent thought, her mind entirely preoccupied with the magic riveting through her. The raw magical power tingled her entire body, causing a feeling of pure electrical bliss to soar through her. Just as she thought it couldn't get much better, her eyes began to glow a bright white, adding further illumination to the room. If anypony walked in at that very moment, they would have surely been blinded by the intensity of the light.

The power coursing through her lifted her high into the air, causing her to feel dizzy as she further lost control of her body. At no time did she feel fear, only love for her pegasus friend.

While in the air, her eyes changed from white to purple, and her aura from green to orange. As the new orange magical beam made contact with Scootaloo, she was lifted up into the air alongside Sweetie Belle. Scootaloo’s eyes opened wide, and began to glow a powerful white.

Before long, it was over. The magic faded, and they both levitated down to share the same bed. Before they both fell asleep, she heard Scootaloo's voice.

"I love you, too."
