Introduction: Sparks Blown In The Wind

Load Full StoryNext Chapter

Our world is full of sparks; dying light and heat blown about in the wind that together symbolize civilization’s last hope. Any of those sparks could ignite a new fire yet instead they are wasted; without direction they are nothing more than a danger to those who stray to near the source.

The equine race has always been susceptible to subversion. The tribal leaders of old, the princesses, the ministry mares, anyone with enough charisma could lead them to great heights or unimaginable lows. All this world needs is one who can surpass the rest, one who can build up a reputation of mythical proportions around themselves and lead them back into the light of civilization.

Then they must disappear, the equine race’s susceptibility to charismatic leaders is a crutch that it must be weaned off of.

Je suis celui sans visage, l'étincelle dans la nuit, celui qui a la volonté de réussir. Je suis le Coureur du Bois.

-The Runner’s manifesto.

After the end fell upon the world’s two foremost powers a chaotic madness descended upon the world. Within a matter of years what had once been golden civilizations had fallen into warlordism. Borders that had remained unchanged for centuries were erased, truths that had always been taken as a given were called into question, and all morality seemingly disappeared.

It has been 70 years since those days. The fog of war still hangs thick over the land like the shadow of death. In the dark of the night that which can only be called evil reins at the expense of the innocent few. On the Central Equestrian Plain a storm is brewing: one from which there is no shelter. From the northeast comes a horrific creature born of the bombs.

This is the state of the world, damaged by the bombs, crippled by its inhabitants.

This is a world without peace.

This is a world without structure.

This is a world without order.

This is a world without logic.

This is a world without power.

This is a world without hope.

This is a world without morality.

This is a world without heroes.

Or so I thought.
