Extradimensional warping is difficult to do, even in the most controlled of environments. Even if you do manage to get everything working and not destroy the planet in the process, will you even survive the trip? Not likely. Of course, not all things I have seen or done are entirely dictated by logic or sane reasoning. Anything is worth a shot when you're desperate enough.
