Chap 1 - A Star in the Sky
A Star in the Sky
A week at the Cantorlot Castle took a lot out of me and Sapphire. After settling into the castle, me and Sapphire sat in my room and talked like two little fillies. Two 15 year old fillies giggling and whispering like 9 year old fillies. We haven't done this in a long time.
"Can you believe we're princesses?" Sapphire squealed.
"I know right," I smiled.
"Just wait til they give us our crowns! We'll be able to make a rule for everything!"
I smirked at Sapphire and she smirked back. I then frowned after some thought. We can't necessarily make a rule for everything we want. Plus, even if we could make any rule we want, we'd have too much power. I'd have too much power. I hate to be a leader. It just wasn't my thing. To tell somepony what to do was more Sapphire's thing. Or Sugar's thing. Or my damn dad's thing. Thinking about him made me mad, but it also made me want to cry.
Sapphire smiled at me weakly when she noticed I was upset about something. She scooted closer to me and hugged me without really knowing why I was sad.
"Think of it this way, little sis," she said, "We don't have to do any heavy lifting. I mean, besides this week." Sapphire smiled as she stood up and looked me in the eyes. "It'll all work out soon enough."
"I guess," I said.
Sapphire yawned and headed for the door. "I'm going to bed," she said, "I'll see you in the morning. Good night, little sis."
"Night," I said.
"And may the little demons under your bed eat you alive as you scream in fright," Sapphire mumbled, loudly. She looked back to see if i heard her. I glared at her she stuck her tounge out.
"I'm gonna kill you in the morning," I shouted as Sapphire walked away.
"Love you, too," she said, walking out the door.
I sat there for a moment thinking of ways to get her back in the morning. I'll think about it later, I thought.
I stood up and closed the door. I then walked over to the window and watched the stars twinkle in the night sky. Every star looked gorgeous in its own way. I turned my attention to the moon which was always full and bright. I stared at the moon for a good long minute until something brighter caught my eye.
Moving slowly upward was a single star burning brighter than the moon and stars put together. The star seemed to be the biggest and brightest star out of all the others. Its twinkle was more vivid than the one right next to it. I sat there gazing at it in awe while it came to a stop right next to the moon. It seemed to burn even brighter after it stopped rising. I felt its energy burst within me. It was calling me. It was calling my spirit. It was calling my name.
The next morning, I skipped my plans to tell Sapphire to go to hell for last night and instead told her about my discovery.
"Discovery?" Sapphire asked, "What do you mean disk-of-or-ree?"
I glared at her stupid mocking voice. I took a deep breath and cleared my head of the irritating remakes I was close to saying.
"As in I found out something," I said.
"I know what discovery means, egghead," she groaned.
I just walked away and left her alone. I've learned that when Sapphire is upset in anyway to just walk. Go. Leave her. But if she starts following you, RUN!
I stopped at the door and with my magic, grabbed my food and walked out. In my room, I packed my saddlebags for tonight to do a little research on the brightest star north of the moon. I packed paper, quills, a spell book just in case and flower to eat.
My favorite flower is a rose without it's thorns. For some reason they taste good to me. Sapphire hates roses. The sight of them. The taste of them. Even their small. Red was never her taste in color. Blue wasn't either. Her favorite color is actually black and dark purple. She likes dark blue, but it must be dark. Really dark.
While I packed my bag, Sapphire came into my room. She stood at the door raising an eyebrow. I didn't notice until I turned around.
"What are you doing?" she asked, sternly.
"None of your business, Sapphire," I shouted, "Get out!"
"No!" Sapphire barked.
"It's my room. Now get out of it!"
"I don't have to do what you say. I have seniority. I'm grown!"
Damn it. She played the 'I'm older card', I though. I hated it when she does that. Just because she's older doesn't mean a damn thing.
"Tell me what in the name of Celestia are you doing," Sapphire demanded.
"I'm packing my saddlebags for research," I answered.
"Researching what packing a bag can do..." Sapphire paused as I glared at her stupid obligations. "Egghead."
I slammed the door in her face. She screamed in pain moments later and I opened the door worried about her safety. Sapphire slapped me the second I opened the door while she held her nose with the other hoof. As she walked away, I closed the door and rubbed the pain away.
No more destruction, I thought. I have work to do.
That night, I grabbed my stuff and walked out my room at 9 'o clock. Sapphire was in her room half asleep doing something in the dark. Whatever she was doing, it was really loud and probably stupid. I walked out our 'chambers' - as the royals call it - and went to the Raising Balcony.
Princess Celestia and Princess Luna use the balcony only to raise the sun and moon which is how it got its name. The balcony was originally for Princess Celestia only until Princess Luna as Nightmare Moon returned. For many moons, Princess Celestia was the only pony to stand on the balcony.
When I walked up the stairs I saw Princess Luna walk down with her sister. Without question, they let me walk pass. They know me and my sister so well within just a week, but they act like we've been here for years. I bowed to them as they passed me and continued up the steps. They must of thought I was being silly because I could hear Luna mumble something to Celestia. I'm not use to being a princess. Or of a royal family...or a real family.
At the top of the steps, I looked at the stars as I walked closer to the railing. It was beautiful. I watched all the stars twinkle in the sky as I waited for the brightest star. I waited. And waited. And waited.
"Argh, it's almost 11 at night," I groaned, "Where is that star?"
"You mean the star right...anywhere," a deep voice asked behind me.
I turned around to find a tall, brown alicorn with fire for hair. To my surprise, the alicorn was a colt. He look about 17 years old.
"Oh, not those stars," I said, "I'm looking for a star much brighter than these."
"You mean this one," the colt said as his horn started to glow.
The bright star I saw the other night appeared in the sky. It arose glowing brighter as it reached it's peak. When it stopped, the star burst in a bright glow. It's flare was so brilliant.
"Wow," I gasped.
"Lovely, isn't He?" the colt cheered.
"He?" I said, confused.
"Yeah. My star is a boy."
I looked as he puzzled. "How can you tell it's a boy?" I asked.
"Its my star," he answered, "I should know what gender it is. And He is a boy."
I giggled sheepishly. I never knew stars could have genders. A boy star. A girl star. It's just a star to me. I can see Princess Luna saying that stars are like ponies alike, but I had no idea who this colt standing before me was and yet he was talking just like her.
"I'm sorry," I said, "But who are you?"
"My name is Prince Kasper Outland Blaze," he said, "Not many ponies know me because I'm an outsider. Or in this case, a insider. I haven't left outside these castle walls that much. Not like my mother, Princess Celestia, has."
"PRINCESS CELESTIA!?" I exploded.
"Yeah... That's how I know you don't know me at all." He turned away and sighed dramically. He looked like he was about to start singing.
It isn't that I'm ungrateful for all the things that I earned. For all the...
"Umm, excuse me," I interrupted, "But may I ask how your Celestia's son."
"Oh," he blushed, "That depends on what story you want to here. Long or short?"
"Long."
"Well, it all started when I was a little worm-like speck."
"OK, NOT THAT LONG!!" I screamed, throwing my hooves in the air.
He smirked and began before he was born. Apparently, his father is a Changeling. Or was. Princess Celestia was tricked by the Changeling to help Queen Crystelis. A second war between the Changelings and ponies, he said. When Celestia found out, she banished Kasper's father who, weeks later, was killed. His cover story skin was an old friend of Celestia and Luna. His name was Earthus.
Earthus and Celestia had feelings for each other way before Luna turned into Nightmare Moon and Twilight turned into a princess. Seeing Earthus again made Celestia feel joy once more. But to find out that this Earthus was a Changeling made her fear for the worst. After the war, Celestia found out she was pregent and her royal guards found out the Earthus was dead.
Months passed and Kasper was born. Him and his two other triplet brothers - Kasper, Flareinight, and Solaris were born with different aspects of their bodies that formed that of a Changeling's. Kasper had the same hooves as a Changeling's. His brother, Solaris, has the horn and one Changeling eye. And his brother, Flareinight, has fangs and can change his wings to Changeling wings.
I was stunned to hear Kasper was part Changeling, but rather then back away scared, I hugged him. "You must have been through so much," I said.
"I guess I have," he frowned. "But why hug me. I'm a Changeling. Aren't you afraid of me?"
"No. You're not a bad Changeling, so why be scared?"
He sighed and pulled me closer hugging me tight. I hugged him even tighter as he squeezed he in our embrace. He started to pur. I never knew Changelings purred until I met Kasper. He never knew my name and yet we were hugging each other so tight.
"Ruby," I said.
"Ruby?" he questioned.
"It's my name. Ruby."
"Ruby. That's a beautiful name."
I blushed. "Actually, its Ruby-Anna Hearts," I restarted, "I'm from Ponyvile, but me and my sister were sent here because fortunately our mother is Princess Cadence."
"You're the lost daughter of Princess Cadence?!" he bellowed, loosening our embrace.
"Yeah...?" I was so surprised he knew me as the lost daughter of Princess Cadence. "Is that what they call me?"
"Not really. They just started saying it."
"Wow." I took a long pause and walked away from the railing of the balcony. I stopped in the middle of the room, turned around, and continued my thoughts. "Well, thanks for complimenting my name. Whenever you need me, I'll be down the hall from the Thrown Room on the right. Remember, my name's Ruby-Anna."
"I like just Ruby better," Kasper smiled, "Ruby-Anna is pretty too, but just Ruby is the sweetest name I've ever heard."
I blushed harder as he complimented my name. "Since you're shortening names, what's yours?"
"It's Outkast," he said.
"Outkast," I hummed, "I like that name." He blushed and rubbed the back of his neck. I started to walk towards the stairs. "Well, Outkast, I hope to see you again really soon."
"Wait," he shouted, "Let me walk you to your chambers."
I smiled as he led me down the steps. We talked about my trip the whole way down. When we made it to my chambers, he said good night as we hugged once more. He opened the double doors for me and watched me walk down the long hallway. I stopped at my door and look at him. He smiled and turned away. I think he was blushing.
"Thanks again," I said.
"No problem," he blushed.
I opened my door while he closed our double doors and I went to sleep.
That night, I had an amazing dream about nothing, but Outkast.
The next morning, I woke up with the neatest bed head I ever had. My mane and tail are naturally neat for some reason. No matter what I wake up with my same wiggly wobbly wakes in my hair. I went into the kitchen and got my breakfast. Sapphire walked in with the worst bed head so far.
"Damn, I need food," she said with a yawn.
"Glad to see you're up," I said.
"Yeah, yeah."
"Good morning?" Sapphire glared at me as she opened the refrigerater door. "More like not a good morning."
"Shut up, Ruby," she groaned.
"Somepony's on they period," I mumble as I stood up.
"Go buck yourself!" Sapphire barked.
I walked out ignoring her loud ranting. I went to my room, combed my mane and walked around the castle. Three castle guards stood at the door to the outside of the castle. They bowed as I walked pass. I then bumped into something warm and large. It was Outkast.
"Oh, I'm sorry, Ruby," he said.
"You remember my name?" I blushed.
"Of course I did."
I looked at the floor and drew circles with my hoof. I blushed and he smiled tenderly at me. I tried to think of something; anything to say. I was so embarrassed.
"Well," I started. It seemed like with every word I was ready to say I lost the will to say it. The harder I thought of what to say the easier they left my mind. "I'm happy you remembered."
"How could I forget your ruby red hair and bright hot pink eyes?" he said. I blushed harder and harder. "And your beautiful smile."
"Outkast, that's so thoughtful of you to say," I smiled, "I...I..."
"Yo, Kaster!" a colts voice shouted, "You coming back to the game or what?!"
"Give me a minute, Flare!" Outkast yelled.
"Just leave him be," a soft spoken colt said, "He's probably sick of you yelling at him."
"Whatever, Solar," the other colt groaned.
"I should go," Outkast said, frowning and heading for the door.
"Wait," I said. He stopped and came twards me. "I...um..."
He stared me in the eyes as I stuttered on trying to say what I wanted to say. I shut my eyes and mumble to myself how stupid I was. Rather than walk away from me, he put his hoof on my shoulder. I looked up at him and smiled deep. I then shut my eyes again and quickly kissed Outkast's warm lips. He froze stunned my by actions. I broke the kiss and ran away. I hid in my room for a while. I didn't come out until later that night. I heard a knock on my door and let the pony knocking in. Yet again, it was Outkast.
"I'm so sorry about earlier," I cried. Outkast stepped closer to me. "I don't know what came over me. I just kissed you. I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF YOU HAVE A MAREFRIEND!!"
Outkast put a hoof to my lips and hugged me. "It's OK, Ruby," he said.
I sniffed and wipe away my tears. He pulled me away for our hug and stared at me. He then kissed me and held me in his hooves. I was tense from his sudden last reaction. I slowly melted into the kiss and pushed my lips into his. My closed slowly as he grabbed me softly. He leaned back and laid on his back. I laid on top of him and kissed harder. Moments later, we broke the kiss.
"So you do have the same feelings," I hummed, "Don't you?"
He smiled and nodded. "I guess that you could say I love you," he purred.
I gasped. "But we met just last night," I said.
"A Changeling loves faster and more easier than ponies," he explained, "It's both a curse and a gift."
I giggled and gave him again quick kiss. I then hopped off of him and sat on my bed. He sat up and watched me.
"Outkast," I said.
"Yes, Ruby," he smiled.
"Easier, I was trying to ask you out on a date, but I didn't want to seem to desperate to ask you. I didn't know if you had another mare or if you even would yes."
"Are you a Changeling, too?"
My eyes went wide. "NO! WHY WOULD YOU ASK ME THAT?!"
"You seem to love me back even though, as you said before, we met just last night."
I smirked at him and got off my bed. He opened the door and let me walk out. How did he know I was gonna step out the door, I thought. Nevertheless, I kissed him on the cheek and walked out the door with him following behind me. He stepped to my left side and walked me outside to the royal garden.
We sat in the near some lovely red roses. He picked two of which we both ate. I never knew he liked to eat roses just like I do. I love this colt. I love him so much.
