Doctor Whooves: The Dismal Abyss
Part 1: Doctor and Companion
Load Full StoryA gray furred Pegasus slumped over the side of her bed, her golden mane pointed in every direction possible. The sun brightly shined through a small window above her bed, filling the nearly empty room with a vibrant light. The mare pegasus glanced around the empty room and took in a long breath of air, filling her lungs to capacity before releasing it all. It had been another night alone, as per the usual. She stretched her forelegs and slowly stood, her body leaning slightly on the bed post. She looked at her empty bed and sighed from anguish. The mattress had no sheets, nor blankets on it, and the only impression left on it was on her side. Had she not been helpful? Of course she had, HE saved her life as much as she had saved his. She let out another sigh as she began walking towards the door leading to the hall when a metallic whir sounded, making the mare grin and go bounding through the hall and towards the back yard. She lifted her hoof, dragging the blueish glass door from her direct path and leapt joyfully as a blue police box seemed to appear from thin air.
"Doctor, Doctor!" She cried in excitement, her long, gray wings sticking up as she rushed towards the blue police box's door and used her front hoof to knock. A brown stallion with a darker brown mane and wild blue eyes leaned out from within the box, only peaking his head out with a curious expression on his face.
"Who's at it now? I'm really quite busy in here, but if you insist, I guess I could take a short look at that bloody-" He paused as he saw what pony it was that had knocked and with a genuine smile, he raised a hoof, and shut the door. The Pegasus pressed her ear against the door and was startled as the door sprang open. The Doctor pulled her in and shut the door again, bringing her into a room that was far larger than the outside of the police box.
"Oh Derpy, this is brilliant. Simply brilliant!" Derpy stood still in confusion, and stared blankly at him.
"What in Equestria are you talking about? What's so brilliant Doctor?" He nodded towards a 3D image above the circular control station and tiny screens. "That my draft, yet genius companion, is pure evil, and it should arrive any second, so naturally, we've all the time in the world to stop it." He glanced towards Derpy, and noted the confused, but excited expression her face was now wearing.
"If you're willing to help me of course." He added hastily, looking at her with hopeful eyes even though he knew what her answer would be.
"I'm definitely willing to help, especially if it involves us saving Equestria." She answered determinedly, staring at the odd image in front of them both curiously. She then glanced to the Doctor and cleared her throat, and brushed her mane out of her face.
"You haven't answered my question. What exactly is it that's brilliant?" He looked at Derpy as if to say she already should know then beamed.
"The fact that I have found a crack n time that might just be a sentient being, and that the T.A.R.D.I.S. decided to automatically come to you the second I'd discovered this thing. Its as if she believes you are the key to answering the question." Derpy smiled and raised an eyebrow.
"So what is the question Doctor?"
"Oh, now that's it though. Isn't it? What IS the question?" He began rushing around the controls to the T.A.R.D.I.S. as he spoke.
"If I'm right, and I often am, this THING might be filled with more hate than the daleks, and that is saying something." He said as he continued to rush about. Derpy cocked her head as she stared at the image, then turned back to the Doctor who was, at the moment, throwing random things around him as he searched inside his large trunk.
"Doctor, if this thing is a crack in time, how can it be alive? Isn't that impossible?"
"No, nothing is impossible." He replied, throwing large strawberries behind him, and accidentally hitting Derpy.
"Ouch. Um, Doctor? What are you doing exactly?" Breathlessly, he answered. His words drawn out slowly as he still rummaged around the inside of his trunk.
"Just-searching-for-THIS!" he cried out excitedly as he pulled a strange looking device shaped like a flashlight-sized laser pointer, most of it was silver aside from the brown leather grip, and its top, which had a lavender, sphere-shaped, crystal-like lens. He set it down at her hooves and smiled at her sheepishly.
"Its your very own, sonic screwdriver. Just in case it gets far too dangerous, or we get split up." Derpy carefully picked the sonic screwdriver up using her mouth and without setting it down, thanked him by gently nuzzling him with her head. He smiled more, nuzzling into her before rushing to the controls once more, pulling a lever down with his mouth.
"And now we learn what the question is exactly, and what we can do." The Doctor said determinedly. Sitting down as the T.A.R.D.I.S. responded to him pulling the lever down.
Outside, the strange blue police box slowly made a metallic whir and began to fade away, disappearing completely, making the illusion that it had never been there in the first place aside from a square indent in the patch of grass it had been resting on. Not even a minute passed before a strange light began to emit from the grass. A large crack formed, light shot in ever which way. Growls would have been heard had any pony been around, but that was not the case. Trouble had found its way to ponyville, and slipped by Doctor Whooves and his companion, and love of his life, Derpy. What was to happen next had been left to fate.
Author's Note
My first crossover fanfic. I really do hope it works. Mostly though, I hope it was worth starting to write. I love doctor who, so I put some extra effort into it. Any criticism is highly appreciated. Tips and thoughts to help me improve are greatly appreciated.
