Heterochromia
Based on a somewhat true story. Pegasi belong in the non-fiction bookshelf. You know I’m right – Dleif
Part 1:
Cloud Chaser woke up on one sunny lazy afternoon. Without looking at the time on his clock, he casually slides out from the side of his bed and lands on the floor. On his stomach and not really feeling the morning glory of having woken up, he heads for his fluffy jacket on a hanger at the other side of the room. Sliding there was the easy part, pulling it down was a little more challenging, and now the hardest part of the day is to actually get up. He extends his hooves over the crushing weight of his well-rested and strengthened pegasus body. Grunts of pain sounded from his mouth as he overcomes the hurdles of everyday life. No sleep deprivation for this pony today, he’s out to conquer the world one stretching limb at a time. A heavy sigh of relief escapes from him as he finishes stretching.
“Wow, I better lay off all that late-night fanfiction readings. Those texty walls are fun to immerse in, but the spoilers to the actual shows are just too much to take in all in one night,” Chaser said to himself, proud that he finished reading those yet knowing that it costed him some of his favourite animes to have been spoiled.
It will be a while before he goes back and catches up on ‘Kawaii-chan no desu yamate senpai’ he decided.
In the meantime, the green clothed pegasus turned his head back to look at his clock and he grimaced. “2pm? Really? Argh this bites, half the day is gone. And I really wanted to-“ He paused for a moment.”-Argh... nevermind, me.”
Chaser slouched his way to his door and went to see what his pal Vermillion was doing. Silk Mirage, his totally awesome ex wasn’t in the house and wasn’t going to be back to their place for a while. This was because Silk- having a fine amount of assets –was outside by herself looking at the housing market. Chaser wouldn’t have had concerns knowing that she was doing this if not for the fact that Silk’s budget range was too broad. Oh what, must I confront the elephant in the back of the brain? You thought that she shouldn’t have gone looking for houses by herself because she was totally blind and sexy? You’re silly, Chaser. He couldn’t help but smirk. She’s a very capable mare as Chaser had learned over the years. His totally awesome best friend however was still staying in their house and had no reason to leave for the day as he recalled. It seemed a great day will be ahead of the two of them.
If only it wasn’t 2pm. Buckin’ time zones, Canterlot gets all the good stuff.
His green hoof gently knocked on Vermillion’s door after finding out that she was nowhere else around the apartment. Mumbling came from the other side before quieting down. Chaser rolled his eyes knowing that Vermillion must’ve overslept like he did.
“I’m coming inside!” he knocked on the door loudly before entering.
The hair was heavy with sweat and delightful morning breath that wasn’t really delightful. The room was incredibly humid so Chaser went to the window to crack it open. “Let’s see if we can’t air this place out,” he said back to the sleeping beauty.
“No, just five more minutes,” Vermillion mumbled behind tightly closed eyes. She was completely sprawled out on her bed with her blanket covering half of her body. Her hair was all over the place, but Chaser didn’t mind she looked cute with that messy look.
“It’s two in the afternoon.”
“No…” she let out a long sigh. “No that sucks so much.”
She wasn’t a big fan of waking up late for no reason too, he thought. He smirked as he had a great idea that just popped in.
“Ok, how about I get you some breakfast? In bed?”
“But I thought Snowy and Shil took most of our food again last week. They really got to start sharing themselves,” was what Chaser could understand through her mumbled words.
“We got cereal still. No sweeteners but I’ll think of something, Vermy.” Chaser turned to head out and catches Vermillion’s words.
“Ohhhh… cereal… sounds so good.”
Sure enough the fridge was barren. He picked an apple for himself and got the milk out for Vermy’s cereal. He noticed his hoof passing a box of strawberries. “Hey this can work.”
After preparing a nice bowl of Hooves and Hay he dunked a few strawberries in with a satisfying plunk. Back to Vermy, he rubbed his hoof all over her hair to coax her out of sleep.
“Vermy I got food! Wake up sleepyhead before I eat it!” he laughed evilly.
“No! You’re so cruel evil villain,” she laughed.
Vermy finally opened her eyes revealing her two differently coloured irises. Her wonderful irises: a shade of the finest red vintage and a cool refreshing shade of blue. This was always Chaser’s favourite part of waking Vermy. She noticed the figure looming over her and the prized bowl of the most delicious and vital meaning of life: two-in-the-afternoon breakfast cereal. She yanked it from her “Cereal Savoir” and began to chow down.
“Is this a freaking strawberry?” she noticed and gave Chaser a surprised look which he responded with a laugh. She rolled her eyes, but the green pegasus noticed the small smile she made before getting back to business.
“Okay I’ll go get the paper and let her majesty sleepyhead finish her hors de ’oeuvres,” he mocked a bow.
“Chaser that’s not what hors de ‘oeuvres are!” she shouted after him as he closed the door behind himself.
Approaching the door, Chaser sprung it open and picked up the 2pm news. He didn’t notice the shadowy silhouette standing before him until he got back up. It was a strange looking pegasus he absolutely never seen before wearing robes and a type of hood.
“Uh…”
“Hello and buongiorno, do you have time to talk about-“
The door slammed so hard from Chaser’s earthquake-like force that it threatened to fall off its hinges.
“Are you okay, Chaser?” Vermy shouted with concern from her room obviously having heard the noise.
“Yeah!” he shouted back while rolling the paper up in anger. “Damn Followers of Friendship!”
“Twilicorn was a mistake,” he mumbled to himself. Hail the one and only true princess of the equestrian throne, Luna! Hail Luna!
He flipped through the paper as he made his way back into the kitchen to finish his apple. His eyes glazed over the front page for all the latest dirt and the lower right which had ads that he usually ignored.

“Same old same old,” he slapped the paper on a counter and crunched out a large portion of his apple. “There’s nothing exciting today so if I want that then I have to go start that.” Facing defeat, the green pegasus pondered a while. There’s art, there’s reading, there’s the occasional gentle handy but not right now. There really was nothing to do. At that moment, Vermillion entered the kitchen wearing a smile on her face and her sweater outfit.
“Thank you for the breakfast in bed, it was so kind of you,” she winked at him.
“Oh… uh yes… no. Um. No problem. Happy to ah… help.” Suddenly Chaser felt very hot all of a sudden, a sudden rush went through him.
That’s it! The foundation is there! All the groundwork has been done, the day has nothing in it, and he’s alone with Vermillion. It’s as if the land of Equestria was telling him “DO IT JUST DO IT!” there’s no better opportunity than this.
“Chaser is something wrong? You look a bit red do you have a fever?” her voice was filled with concern. “Chaser? Chaser say something please?”
Suddenly Chaser’s heart was pounding. Yes! Yes, this will be the day finally! He loves her voice and those eyes that are horribly confused but they’re still amazing. Holy shit! Thought Chaser. He hasn’t had a feeling like this in so long, it felt really good, but he was panicking and she was noticing. Play it cool dude, play it cool you’re the realist shit and can totally freaking do this. She’s wrapping her hooves around you because you’re freaking her out with your panicking; she’s concerned for you she likes you go do it man yeah! You want her you want this to work it’ll all be good it’ll be fine now’s your chance-
JUST DO IT!
Yeah!
DO IT!
YEAH!
DON’T LET YOUR DREAMS BE-
Vermillion had begun to wrap her hooves around Chaser hoping that whatever was troubling him would snap him out of it. In a flash, she felt as unexpected hooves wrapped around her too and gave her a squeezing hug. Chaser’s head went up and his face was a brilliant shade of red and his eyes were full of determination.
“Vermy, I always wanted to ask you this,” in a manner most calm and manliest voice that came in whispers from Chaser, Vermillion was still taken back by all these unexpected actions from Chaser.
“Wha- what is it…?” she was concerned for her friend. But there’s something in his eyes, his gaze piercing into hers that told her that he was alright.
“I want to take you out to dinner. And no, I don’t mean that hangout stuff we do with the others. I would like- no –I want both of us alone at a restaurant. Together, you and me a table good food and a good evening.”
Vermillion’s face immediately went red and she had to put a hoof to her face to compose herself and hide her blush.
“Is… is this a… a date?”
“Yes.”
She went redder than before. No wonder Chaser was freaking out just a few seconds ago the effect was doing the same to her. They broke the embrace.
“Like a date, a date?”
“Yes the most realist date. I’ll be a gentlecolt, we can reserve seats at a fancy restaurant. I could even bring a suit if you want me to.”
“A suit? You don’t have a suit, and they’re so expensive and the rent to the apartment-“
Chaser cut her off there, “I will get one if you want me to and I’ll still work hard to pay for the rent this is how serious I am.”
“Really?”
He nodded.
“Okay, okay I need to sit down. Um, yeah sure. We can… we can go have dinner. You don’t really need to bring a suit. I prefer not to wear a fancy dress right now. Um yeah, it’s fine it’s fine.
“I can help you find a dress if you really want to?” Chaser smiled.
Vermy went even redder, “Baka! Don’t push it. I’ve never been this lightheaded before. But in a good way.”
“Okay alright just a suggestion. You still didn’t answer my question?” Chaser said coyly. Both went even further red after he reminded each other the reason for why their faces looked like the morning strawberries.
“Okay yes. Yes. I will. I will go out on a date with you Mr. Chaser.” Now wanting to get some revenge on making her feel this way and needing to cool down she approaches Chaser and whispers in his ear, “Kept you waiting, huh?” and kissed him on the cheek. “It was about time.”
And leaving him incredibly red-faced in a joyful walk she went to her room to go prepare for the eventual evening.
Chaser had to lie down.
