Darkness in the Heart
Backstory Part 2: ...come back to haunt the present.
Previous ChapterNext ChapterAs the two foals were being brought to their new home, the couple who adopted them couldn't help but feel... strange. They just felt strange. Antsy; feeling like somepony- or, something was watching them. The couple finally got to their hope, after having that feeling for an hour or so. The couple placed down the foals, who were large enough to be considered Colt and Filly. "Welcome to your new home, you two!" the male of the couple said.
The two started walking around, checking out to their new environment. It was a pretty average house for the city of Manehattan; 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom. The furniture was nothing too special, though the filly and colt sure loved it. After about an hour or so of exploring the house, the mare of the couple suddenly realized how late the time is. (I don't know what to call them; let's call them the Dinklebergs since, for some reason, it's the first thing to come to my mind. And maybe the Turners live next door. I don't know.) The mare lifted up the filly and colt, and brought them to the bed they bought. She gently put the two in, covered them in the blue blanket, and kissed both of them on the head. "Good night, you two," she said quietly, then walked out the door and silently closed it.
Later that night, the Dinklebergs were awaken by their new children, crying. The stallion decided to check on them. He got up out of their bed and walked over to the filly and colts' room. He opened the door and peaked inside. There was a ball of light and a ball of... darkness inside the babies' bed. "What's going on?!" he said loudly, over the voices of the babies' crying. Suddenly, the babies calmed down and stared at the stallion; the balls quickly faded away. Mr. Dinkleberg rubbed his eyes. "Huh?..." he cooed quietly. He walked up to the two of them and looked down at them. "I knew something was interesting about you two... but... could it possibly be? N-no... it can't be... the legends can't be true..." He shook his head and walked out the door, back to his room. He remembered reading something similar to that in an ancient textbook, about how the representatives of light and darkness, of love and hate, of creation and destruction... but it couldn't be true... could it?
The stallion tucked himself into his bed. If what he thought about was true, then he and his wife would soon have a horrible fate... a very bad fate that will end both of their lives...
Fast-forward many years. The two young foals grew up to become strong ponies, though the two still hate each other down to the bitter bone; nobody cares about this, thinking it's just sibling rivalry. The white one, who was called "Sister" by everypony because of what her brother called her, was a very kind, sweet-hearted mare who was kind to everypony. The other, "Brother", grew up to have stronger muscles, but not a stronger heart. He was very bitter, though he wasn't actually mean. The two grew up and got a good education. They were soon getting ready to go to college together... until that one day. Until that one day, when their full powers kicked in. It was the day when they were getting ready to go to college.
"Do you have everything packed, brother?" Sister said.
"I still have some more to pack, so shut up," Brother said. Sister giggled at this; she had been through years of insults, and had heard tens of thousands of them, He seemed to have a machine in his brain that came up with new ones every 10 seconds.
"Alright, now I have everything," Brother said while throwing his pack over his shoulder. "Let's go." The black stallion walked out the door and the white mare followed suit. They started walking down the stairs. About halfway down the carpeted steps, Sister tripped on her backpack's string, causing her to fall onto her brother. They tumbled down and hit their heads on a wall.
"Why the hell did you do that?!" Brother yelled at her clumsy sister.
"It was an accident. What would be the point in falling on you? You know I'm not like tha- AAH!" Both of them suddenly got a pain in their head. It was a strange sensation on the right side of their head. It felt strange and it seemed like their memories were being changed around. After about a minute, the sensation died away.
"Why did you do that?!" Brother said, rubbing his head after the pain went away.
"Me doing that?" Sister replied, raising her voice. "I'm a pegasus, not a unicorn! You're the unicorn! If anyone is causing this, it's you!"
"Oh, so now you blame me for for everything? Why don't I just-"
"What's all of the commotion?" yelled a male voice from around the corner. The two became quiet as they saw their elderly parents walk up to them. "Seriously? We're not even off to college yet and you still fight! Can't you two just not fight for 2 seconds?" The brother and sister looked at each other through gritted teeth. "Alright, you two, let's get going." The siblings rolled their eyes and began following their parents. While the parents were about to open the door, the sensation returned to the black and white ponies, only exponentially worse. They fell to the ground, hooves on their heads. Sister slowly dragged herself to a wall a few feet away, while Brother just lay there. The mother was panicking while the father ran outside, yelling for help. Eventually, the ponies seemed to have had their pains subside, but they still just lay there with an expressionless face. The mother got the father to come back inside; they just stared there, looking at their children with a tear in their eye. They were convinced they had a stroke, and... died.
"I don't know how this could happen, they were so young..." the father said. "...un-unless..." he stuttered.
"Unless, what, honey?" the mother said.
"Unless... the old legends were true..."
"What old legends are you talking about? Did you know this would happen?"
"Many years ago, there was a night where the babies were crying, and I went to go check on them... they were beginning to grasp their powers by creating orbs of light and darkness, but I thought I was hallucinating... I might not have been, and these two are the creations of light and darkness... and this... this is when they get their powers, by having... this. And, if everything I just said is true, then we're going to... no..."
"What?! What's going to happe-" She cut off mid-sentence when they saw their son start to move around. "Brother! You're aliv-" Suddenly, he opened his eyes and mouth, to only find pure darkness emanating from them. The two parents slowly backed away.
"...It's true..." the father said. He hugged his wife tightly. "I'm so sorry this has to happen, honey..."
"W-what?" stuttered the wife. "What's going to happen?"
"The caretakers of them... in the legend... they..." he gulped. "Get killed by their children..."
"N-no!" his wife replied. "It can't be true! We can't die! They wouldn't kill us!" She looked at her "son", who was levitating up into the air. Suddenly, he gained a big smile, and fired a spell from his horn at the two elderly ponies. For the first time, a heart- no, two hearts- were getting a blast of darkness, causing them to become the evil versions of themselves, though they lay on the ground, knocked out.
"AHAHAH!" he laughed. From behind him, sister was starting to gain consciousness again. She raised herself off of the ground, facing the back of her brother, though she kept her eyes closed. Brother apparently heard her rustling, and turned around to see his sister. "Ah... you're up... but I have already succeeded..."
Sister looked down. "You will never win, brother." She suddenly looked up and opened her eyes, revealing pure light, similar to when a unicorn gets a sudden surge of magic. She slowly lifted herself into the air, closing her eyes again. When she was about a foot up, she opened her eyes again and fired a laser spell at her fallen parents. Their hearts began to regain the love... but it was too much for their old hearts to handle. They got up for the last time.
"The legends... they are true..." the dad said. "Why did this have to happen to us?"
"Why us?" the mom said "Why?"
"Sister... your brother will do more of this... when he does, save them. We're too old for us to handle this, but others aren't..."
"We're relying on you..." The two parents simultaneously fell to the ground, losing their life.
The siblings snapped out of their spell and looked at their parents' bodies that lie on the floor. "We... we killed them..." Sister said.
"We killed them?" Brother said, snapping to Sister. "WE killed them?! You killed them!"
Sister looked at her brother. "Brother, we had an equal amount of reason to be blamed for this. Don't blame it on me. Put away your old self. Our parents ARE DEAD!" She started getting a tear in her eye.
"That's the point... for this, you must die!" He began charging a spell- no, THE spell.
"We do not have to fight!" Sister said, sniffling. She began lifting up and charged her laser. Then, they shot simultaneously, lasers hitting each other. It caused a small explosion at the epicenter. "We do not need to this! Please, stop now!"
"NO! WE SHALL FIGHT TO THE END!" he made his shot even more powerful.
"Please, stop this!" Sister began getting tears down her face. She made her shot more powerful, causing the epicenter to go back to the middle of them. But the building could not handle this. The whole building exploded, causing the two to fly out half a mile.
They eventually woke up and went back to their home, or the remains of it. Many ponies were by the house, though the police barricaded it off. Brother and Sister met up, not even looking at each other. They jumped over the barricade and walked up to a policepony. "You're not aloud to jump over the barricades!!" he yelled.
"This is our home," Brother said in monotone.
"Then what happened?!" the policepony replied.
"We fought," Sister replied. "We are the creations of light and darkness. We killed our parents and destroyed this house."
"You... you..." the policepony replied. "No..." He looked down and shook his head. "Those old legends are true... just... both of you... you're banished from this community. You may never come back. Leave. Now."
Sister had a look of shot on her face, while brother was angry. "This is all your fault," he said. "We will leave each other. And we shall never see each other again. Goodbye." He walked off to an exit of the city. Sister just stood there, looking at him, until he was no longer in sight.
She sighed. "Why did this have to happen?" She turned around and walked to the other exit of the city. "I have no choice but to walk... and see where my hooves take me..." She closed her eyes and began walking, because that's the only thing she'll be doing for a long time.
After 2 days of walking, she was looking at a mountain. A very tall one. Thousands of feet high. "I know I can just fly over this..." she said to herself. "But I think this is the edge of Equestria. Leaving Equestria is not a solution to anything. And... we were never supposed to be split when we gained our powers... I guess I'll have to go find him and fix whatever he's doing... even if it means I have to kill him." She closed her eyes and turned around.
She had been walking for another 5 days. She saw town on the horizon; she flew up into the air and sped towards it. But, she noticed dark clouds over it, and it only. That must be where he is.He must have created the clouds. Huh, he must have learned some new tricks while I was gone. After a couple of minutes, she was at the gates of the town. Inside, she saw many angry-looking ponies. She calmed herself and looked into their hearts, which was an ability she discovered she could use. But, she saw that the hearts of the ponies were shrouded by darkness.
Shit, he's already here.
