Chapter 5: Meeting The In-Laws (Part 2)

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Twilight holds her hoof to her forehead with frustration. What was supposed to be a nice family dinner with her parents and her brother turned into a royal get-together that would certainly be in the media the following morning. Twilight was already picturing the headlines.

-Royal Princess In Ponyville Married!-

That was not the kind of attention she wanted. Sadri, on the other hoof, was having the time of her life. She had never met Princess Luna before. Luna, as Twilight recalls, is quite the celebrity in Sadri's village. Luna was enjoying the positive attention, as well. A thousand years ago, she didn't have entire villages of ponies who worshiped her over Celestia.

"So... What do you think?" Twilight asks her parents, referring to the babbling Sadri.

Velvet nods approvingly.

"I think she's lovely, Twilight. Though, it is a little sudden."

"Yes," Starbright agrees. "Your mother and I were in the middle of our tax returns when we got your letter."

He chuckles softly to himself.

"What?" Twilight demands.

"Oh, nothing..." Her father says, trying to control his laughter. "I had just thought you were interested in that orange pegasus from the Crystal Empire. The thought of you marrying a princess from a distant village had never crossed my mind."

"Who? Are you referring to Flash?" Cadence asks. "Yes, Twilight, I also thought you had feelings for him. What changed your mind?"

Twilight felt trapped again. This was not the kind of conversation she wanted to have with Cadence and her parents. Luckily, Shining could sense her discomfort. He gives Cadence a swift kick under the table.

"Ow!" Cadence glares at him. "Why did you-"

She meets Twilight's pleading gaze.

"Oooh... I'm sorry Twilight. I did not mean to pressure you. I'm sure you are feeling enough stress right now as it is, being married just yesterday."

Now, it was Luna's turn to hop on the embarrassment train wreck.

"Actually," The moon princess says. "From what Twilight's lovely wife has told me, all of the sex they have been having has reduced her stress levels greatly. Good for you, Twilight!"

The purple alicorn's ears felt like they were on fire, and her fur stands straight up.

"Wow..." Shining mutters.

Now, it is Celestia who kicks Luna underneath the table. Twilight was done. She couldn't take any more. The purple mare stands and begins walking down the corridor towards her room.

"Twilight." Velvet calls. "Twilight, where are you going?"

Twilight doesn't answer. Sadri gets up and trots after her. Just as Sadri was about to follow Twilight into her room, she slams the door shut, locking Sadri out.

"Oh, dear..." Luna mutters.

She felt terrible. The moon princess opens up her wings and embraces the sniffling Sadri who retreated back to the table.

"What did I do?" Sadri asks as tears stream down her cheeks. "Why is she displeased with me?"

"It is not you, little pony..." Celestia says. "It is my arrogant sister. Luna, you should be ashamed of yourself for bringing such a private matter to the ears of everyone here. Come. Let us try to talk to her."

Celestia stands and motions for Luna and Sadri to follow. They begin making their way down the corridor, leaving Velvet, Starlight, Shining, and Cadence at the table. When they reach Twilight's room, Celestia knocks her hoof against the door softly.

"Twilight, may we come in?" She asks.

There is no response, but a few moments later, the door cracks open. Twilight was a mess, as was her room. It looked as though pillows and sheets had been thrown around in frustration. Books had fallen from shelves, and a lamp was shattered. Twilight looks past Celestia and glares directly at Luna.

"You..." She growls.

"Twilight," Celestia steps in her way. "Luna will apologize for what she said, and she will pay dearly, but right now, I need you to come back and rejoin your parents at the table. We still have a meal to finish." She says in her warm, motherly tone.

Sadri steps forward until she is face to face with Twilight. She slowly leans forward so their horns are crossing.

"Please, my love?" Sadri asks. "I am sorry things have not gone how you had wanted. I will try to make them right..."

A small smile cracks along Twilight's lips. She loved that mare. She couldn't say 'no' to her.

"Alright..." Twilight mutters, still giving Luna a mean look.

Together, the princesses make their way down the crystal corridor, back to the dining table. It was time for round two, the dessert challenge. Cadence and Shining help Spike bring an assortment of cakes and pastries, wedding gifts from Pinkie Pie, from the kitchen to the table. Celestia licks her lips hungrily as she eyes the sweet feast before her.

"Now, Aunt Tia, remember what the nurse said about your sugar intake." Cadence scolds.

"Oh, one or two won't hurt." Celestia says dismissively.

Sadri shares a quick kiss with Twilight as she sits down next to her, giving her wife a slice of red velvet cake.

"Thank you..." Twilight says giddily.

It looked like the night would turn out alright after all. Her parents approved of her new wife. That was the goal, wasn't it? Mission accomplished. Now, it was time to eat cake.
