A rare moon
Prologue- A reuniting dream
Load Full StoryNext ChapterIt was a beautiful night over in the small town of Ponyville. Everything was silent, and not a single pony was in the streets. But, in the world of dreams, a place everypony must visit, eventually, it was an entirely different story.
No dream was linked, but, all felt the long rippling affects of another's. That is, unless that dream was shielded, something only a few could do.
Our current setting is one such dream. The scenery looked like a regal castle made out of pure, black onyx with a polished sheen to it, fashioned in the ancient castle of the royal pony sisters, only it didn't have the wear and tear as the real thing, which was to be expected in the dream realm. In the equivalent of the throne room, which contained two thrones, the one on the left being a crescent moon, the other having six, twinkling stars, both emblems being just above where the heads of those who sat in them would be, the one with the six stars having been occupied.
Said occupant had a majestic, sleeveless gown that went to the floor, colored a majestic black with silver accents. The one who wore it, a mare, had dark, almost black skin. Around her neck was a silver choker with a white gem at the place where her collar bone met her chest. Her hair went down just past her shoulders, and was colored purple with accents of white, her tail being of the same color scheme, both looking like they were cared for by the best mane and tail stylists, and her horn was of a majestic length. Her pupils spoke the most to her heritage, said parts being snake like, with the rest of the eyes having a teal like color. But, out of all of that, what stood out most were the furled wings on her back.
Tonight was a special night, as the mare rarely ever controlled her dreams, and the few times she did, she never dreamed of her true form.
The doors, two, large pieces of oak wood with the design of a crescent moon surrounded by six stars on each door, though, were the real center piece of the castle, or, at least, until the real dream version of this castle was finished.
The doors opened, and the mare on her respective throne, the one with the six stars, smiled as she saw the one who walked in. "Hello, Mother," she said, as the one who walked in, she knew, was not a dream.
The mare who walked in wore old combat armor, the armor being colored teal blue, with the robes underneath being purple. Her helmet, swept back across her neck, and was gilded to provide full range of motion, her horn protruding from just above where it stopped at the upper base of her muzzle, between her eyes, which were teal colored, the pupils being teal. Her wings were folded across her back.
"Hello, my dear Selena," Nightmare Moon said to her daughter. With that, she unfurled her wings, and flew to her daughter, giving her a hug as she landed. "How I missed you."
"I missed you, too, mother," Selena said as she returned her mother's hug. "But we are together here in the dream world now, at least."
Nightmare let her daughter go, but kept her hands on Selena's shoulders. "Yes," she said, "and soon, we will be together in the physical realm as well."
"Yes, and I am glad that our banishment is nearly over, Mother," Selena said. "We simply need to ensure my aunt can't stop us."
Nightmare chuckled. "That is why I am glad I can, at least, look somewhat into the future in the dream realm. I know she will send her student, a mare known as Twilight Sparkle, to try and stop us."
"I will deal with it, Mother," Selena said. "After all, I wouldn't mind having a second pet."
"Ah, I can only imagine my sisters face when she sees her personal and prized student obeying our command," Nightmare said. "That is, before I break her, and make Celestia the slut she is."
Selena smiled. "But first, we'll need her to say she's passing her power over to us, and make it known that the moon's composition would increase the power of the sun's light during an eclipse, and that's how we are going to bring about eternal night: an eclipse."
"That will be easier said then done, my daughter," Nightmare said. "But with the two of us reunited, we can take care of it."
"I'll just be happy for you to return," Selena said. "Everything else is simply a bonus."
"As it is for me, Selena," Nightmare said, caressing her daughter's cheek. "As it is for me." She planted a kiss on Selena's cheek as she began to fade away from the dream. "I'll see you soon."
"See you soon, Mother," Selena said as Nightmare vanished from her dream.
Back in the physical realm, a single mare awoke. She had white skin and a purple mane and tail. She wore a two piece nightie, with an eye mask over her face.
She removed the mask, and went to the kitchen. She got a glass and filled it with water, putting some ice into it. Just as she was about to go back up, she heard, "Rarity, what are you doing up?"
Rarity looked at where the vice had originated, just at the base of the stairs, and her sister, Sweetie Belle, stood there, her mane and tail a mess, with pajamas with pictures of various actors Sweetie liked.
"I'm just getting a drink, Sweetie," Rarity said with a weak smile. "Go back to bed."
"Okay," Sweetie said, and she went back upstairs to her room.
Once she was upstairs, Rarity walked over to the window, and looked up at the moon. More accurately, the "Mare in the Moon."
"Don't worry, Mother," Selena, dropping her disguise of Rarity, said. "We'll succeed this time. I promise you."
