Big Macintosh stood in the barn. Roughly a week had gone by since Applejack had left for Manehattan. He missed his sister. The Sisterhooves Social went well, aside from Applebloom and Big Mac being disqualified. He really wanted to get her that blue ribbon, but he had been overly aggressive and ran through all the obstacles. He was looking over the hills at the orange tinge of the setting sun. "Big Mac? Are you alright?" Applebloom asked as she walked into the barn. Big Mac sighed. "Eeyup." he said as he bowed his head. walking out of the barn. He began walking up the hill he had been looking over. "Big Mac! Wait up!" Applebloom shouted after him. Big Mac didn't wait. He kept walking towards the lone tree that sat upon the hill. When he got to the top with the tree, he sat next to it. "Oh Applejack. The farm misses ya." was all he said. When Applebloom finally caught up, she plopped her rump down next to Big Mac. "Big Mac, You okay?" asked Applebloom. Big Mac huffed. "Eeyup!" he said, obviously aggravated. Applebloom didn't get the hint. Big Mac got up and walked back down the hill. He didn't want to be around any pony. "Big Mac, where ya goin'?" asked Applebloom. "Applebloom, stop followin' me. I don't want to be around any pony." he said in response. Applebloom looked hurt as she trotted back to the Homestead.
Big Macintosh walked behind the barn. awaiting him there was a headstone. A bush blocked most of the text. All that was currently visible was the word "Apple". Actually, all that was visible read:

All of a sudden, Applejack trotted up behind Big Mac. "Whatcha doin', Big Mac?" asked Applejack. "Oh, uh, Hey Applejack. Just mournin' an old friend." he said. He then moved the bush out of the way. The entirety of the text on the headstone read:
Here Lies
Applejack's Hat
"You're mournin' mah hat? Why? It's just a hat. Besides. Ah got a new hat while ah was in Manehattan." said Applejack. "Ah know, Applejack. I just.. I just shared a deep friendship with that little gah." said Big Macintosh, bowing his head in sadness. "Big Mac, we are talkin' 'bout the same thing, right? Mah hat? The one that was hit by that lawnmower? Big Mac, it's just a hat." she said, confused. "Yea, Applejack. We're talkin' 'bout your hat. Ah was best friends with that hat. We did everything together. Pranced through the fields, ate breakfast, even slept." Big Mac said. "You stole mah hat to dance in some flowers and eat your meals? Big Mac, Ya took mah hat to sleep with it?" Applejack asked. "Eeyup!" Big Mac said, happily. "Big Mac, yah need help." Applejack said as she walked away, ashamed of her big brother. Big Mac trotted back to the front of the barn to get some flowers. Then he trotted back to the grave to place the flowers down, paying his respects. "See ya, mah old friend." Big Mac said

Big Mac trotted to the Homestead. Big Mac walked through the front door, up through the living room, past Granny Smith sleeping in her rocking chair, through the hallway, up the stairs, past Applebloom's bedroom, past the six feet of wallpaper separating Applebloom's door and Applejack's door, past Applejack's door, past the eight feet of wallpaper separating Applejack's door and his own, through his bedroom door, and straight to his bed. He didn't even make it onto the bed. He just face planted his on the very edge of the bed and fell asleep, instantly.
