Chapter One

Chapter One

Snow was falling outside of the window, making it difficult for Stalin to see because of the lines of steam that tried to escape the warm room. His tea time was the only moment of peace. A moment of loneliness away from the problems of millions of voices. If the British had something right, it was the so called ‘tea time’.

A voice came from outside, “Sir!”

Not that voice again. Stalin was exhausted, all that his men had brought him since the beginning of the war had been bad news. “Our men are dying”, “We need to bring more weapons and food to the borders”, or other stupidity. They were Russians goddammit, they had to serve the Motherland!

The bald soldier entered, messing the carpet with his dirty boots

“Reznev brought me to tell you that you must come see the creature, Sir,” said the soldier as he saluted his leader.

Stalin brought his right hand to his forehead and massaged it while he closed his eyes.

“Is this about the creature found in the snow again?”

“Yes, Sir.”

Stalin used the hand that wasn't massaging his forehead to lazily point to the door. “Then leave, I have more important issues than a— what was it? Talking pony?”

“Sir, we believe this creature might be helpful in the war.”

Stalin straightened in his chair and looked directly into the soldiers face.“Are you trying to tell me I require help, soldier?” his voice was harsh and invasive.

Stalins bodyguards grabbed their guns tighter, imitating the threatening look of their leader.

“Sir, no Sir. You and your clever tactics will lead us to victory, Sir” That was a phrase his partners thought him to say in case Stalin or any official asked that kind of questions, luckily for him, he learned it by heart.

“Then I won't visit that abomination, understood, soldier?”

“Sir, yes Sir.”

Stalin pointed to the door and moved his head enough for the soldier to understand, he left as quickly as he could, Stalin and the bodyguards could hear the soldier running outside, Stalin smiled at that, fear truly helped a message arrive the brain.

Now, back to the tea...which was cold already...Winter in the Motherland is not kind.

Stalin felt awful.

Never in his life had he been manipulated like that. First the nightmares, his worst fears followed by the appearance of an equine wearing an armor. Then the news he received from the laboratories, a scientist bitten by the creature, another left because of what he described to be “the devil in this world”.

The issue was becoming too big for him to keep it as an irrelevant secret, so he had decided to get rid of the creature. A bullet always made the job.

This wasn't the case, and that was the true reason of his presence, the scientist told that the creature was able to “turn into smoke when threatened” or some similar stupidity, he thought that was pure nonsense.

But when he heard his most trusted scientists say so, he knew he was handling something different...that or his men were morons. Hopefully the first one, for their sake.

“For the love of Russia, this better be as they tell it to be,” declared Stalin with an annoyed tone. He was not a man of superstitions, he was a man of progress and scientific thought, bringing his nation to glory with methods that were away from any church. Hearing his men spreading the existence of a sapient animal was for him, an act of stupidity. However, Reznev had insisted, and Stalin believed the words of the scientist.

“Believe me, Sir. This creature is definitely from another world.”

Stalin had to wait inside the grey room in his uncomfortable chair, facing a glass that showed a table with ropes, also different syringes hanging in the walls.

Stalin crossed his arms, moved his head to the side, and asked “Is the creature so strong it needs sedatives?”

“We keep it constantly dosed with them to avoid…past events, Sir,” explained Reznev.

“Then why don't you kill it when its sedated?” Asked the leader of the URSS.

“Everytime we try it turns into shadow, and every time its sleeping, strange and awful visions appear to everyone in the laboratory,” Reznev turned to face his leader. “Its impossible to kill, Sir. We are lucky enough it accepts sedatives.”

There was a metallic sound at the other side of the glass, the door was being opened.

“This time we injected three doses, to keep it safe for your visit, Sir.”

“Good.” For the first time in weeks, his voice didn't bring a feeling of anger, but a sincere ‘good’. Finally, he was going to see the reason of all this mess, and probably end with it once and forever.

Reznev turned to see his expression, seeing an alien like that doesn't happen everyday.

Stalin’s mouth seemed to be falling from his body, but his reaction had a logical reason. “So it truly looks like a pony.”

She closed her eyes, her work was about to begin.

A moment of silence followed by the infinity of an empty dimension. She created the ground to walk, then the light to see. For this was her dimension, the dimension of dreams.

Her name was Luna, the one who brings the night, the one who protects the dreams.

With the power of her horn, Luna connected to the mind of everypony alive that was sleeping that night. She observed the portals that were now lying beneath her in the form of, what she called, mirror glasses. Thousands of sleeping ponies dreams were to be seen.

To most it would be chaotic, that amount of screens, all of them fastly flashing so many images and sounds, but it was all in order, an order imposed by Luna, the ruler of dreams .

For this reason she noticed the difference, there was another pony dreaming that night, another mirror never after seen by her, an anomaly.

Luna summoned the portal, which appeared in front of her, inside she saw turbulence. A black cloud that she could only describe as…

such a familiar mess.
