One after another, laid down to be sorted. Then the next pile, one after another. Twilight did what she did every month, sort out her books in the castle library. As before, it was her favorit past time as it gave her time to keep track of her books and sort the new ones. She now did this on Wednesday because Celestia had sent her new books on that day. Every month she would go and take out all her books like in the library and sort them by type. Action, adventure, novels, fiction, nonfiction, parenting and childrens for a fiew sections of the many titles that stayed at the castle library.
Twilight finished sorting the books she already had and was now able to move onto the ones Celestia had sent her that month. She passed some normal titles, authers and sections. These books where all to cammon, in fact, the only real unexpected book she ever got was Sunset Shimmers book to Celestia. She was almost done when she found a book that seemed different. She had seen that type of writing and poetry before. The Crystal Empire's library had this same type of text. This was the first of its kind in Twilight's library. She couldn't help herself, and like a moth to a lamp, she was all eyes. She ran to one of the tables, pushed everything aside and placed down the book.
"History of Shadow",She read alowd. The text was that of Crystal Empire, but the book's look and mood wasn't. Many of the books from the empire had bright colors and prints. This book, however, had darkend text. Not only that, but the book seemed to give of a shadowey glow. As if it was smoking, but not. There was also no author or any indication on who the book belonged to. The only thing on the cover was the title. There was one thing to do, and that was to read the book.
When Twilight opened the book, a cloud of shadowey smoke escaped into the room, then vanished. Where these signs to stop, if she continued would she be cursed. But her intrests carried her on. Then she read.
"He wasn't always as dark and decrepid as a shadow. He once cared very much for those in his lands. He charished each and every pony, and with his queen by his side, he was proud to be king. Things never do stay the same though, do they. Our king and queen did what they could to fix issues with the empire. Times grew harder and harder as the blizzard continued on. Every day now the temperature dropped. The king had us all stay in his palace until the temperature rose. After almost two weeks of freezing cold, the warm air returned. We could all go home.
Our lord, King Sombra, wanted to find the cause of a sudden blizzard. He left his wife, Queen Amber, here to lead. He went on to find new comers, ponies from far away lands. When they came, the wendigo fallowed. We had always read of other kinds of ponies from other lands, but never thought they would come to our lands. We welcomed them into our lands and later helped them to construct a capital city, Canterlot. With our numbers combined we built up the new land of Equestria into a mighty kingdom. As the ponies created such a being to help with their empire, we stayed away. Our king did not want us to get involved with foren magic. When the ponies came they brought unknown spells and magic to our land. Able to control the sun and the moon for there own time uses. However, they did give us many books on there magical skilles. At first our king rejected, but they insisted.
Our king ordered them to be placed into the city library for any who wish to read, but Sombra wasn't interested it what magic they brought. Then as times went on, creatures came looking for this land. Luckuly for us, they only wanted the capital city Canterlot. This didn't mean that they wouldn't have come for us after the capital fell. After such issues like the Sirens, Discord, then later Terik, our king had to take action. If one attacked us when the foreners where to blame there could have been a war of crystal ponies and normal ponies. Our king looked through spell books in the city library to strenghten his magic, but to no luck. Then the section of foren books. The spelles where unknown and could prove helpful in saving an empire. The king, unwillingly, looked through many until a section in one caught his eyes, Dark Magic. This section was short, but discriptive. He saw the possibilities with this magic, however, he had not known what forces he was dealing with. Many think that when our king read the book, an evil curse was put into his soul, one he could not control. This curse corrupted him, it changed him from the inside out.
His first action was his queen Amber. No witnesses but the evidence showes he struck down his queen. Leading nopony to stand against him. He later inslaved the entire empire into 500 years of torture and work. He made shure nopony found out of what happoned at his empire. He knew if word spread then others will arive to defeat him. He did, however, have plans on what he would do if he is defeated. However, news traveled from an unknown wanderer who saw our struggle. He alurted the Princesses of his crimes for wich they came to assist. After the princess of the sun was brought down to his spelles, the princess of the night took on the fight alone. He was able to capture her in a trap. Using his wisdome and nowlege of what happoned in the pony capital, he minipulated the princess of the night. He tride to trick her into joining him, to join him against her sister. However, in this he awoke an even grater evil. One even his curse wasn't strong enough to take on. His only option was to bannish us to 1000 years of sleep. He made shure to have his empire safe from others taking it. He also knew from where he was bannesed, when the empire returned, he would have enough hatered to free himself. Now he just played the waiting game, and Sombra was patient.
His intentions where in the right place, however, Sombra didn't realize he was looking at the wrong way of protecting his empire. He should have gone to the new ponies for aid, and not mess with what he didn't understand. Maybe then we could still have the king we all miss back."
The story then just ended, the last line was the end of the book. No other page or take on the story. Twilight had wondered if the auther did this for a reason. That because of King Sombra's deffeat in the return of his empire, there was no other story to tell. And if the ending wasn't an ending, but a warning? This did, however, get Twilight thinking and wanting to talk to Celestia on the subject. She also wanted to talk to those in the Crystal Empire on the book. But for now, she knew what she had to finish.
