Summer in the Library
Chapter 1
Load Full StoryAll the school ponies filled Ponyville with cheering and shouts of joy. They trotted down the roads, and blew on whistles and banged on drums. School ponies in Ponyville loved summer break more than anything else. Twilight Sparkle didn't. She sat in her humid library rubbing her aching head. Summer for her was a long and dragging experience. Nothing but heat and humidity. She decided to open up a book and try and cool down.
"Twilight!" She heard a knocking on her door. Where had she heard that voice? She realized who it was and smiled to herself.
"Rainbow Dash!" She opened the door, and Rainbow Dash smiled at her. "How are you, Rainbow?"
"Great! Doesn't it make you so happy to hear all of these happy school ponies? I just LOVE the summer!" Twilight smiled.
"It does make me happy." Dash was still so excited she was about to bounce off the walls. Twilight just couldn't help but giggled at her excitement. She picked up a fan made out of folded paper and fanned herself. "Are you hot?" Twilight asked. Rainbow Dash paused.
"A little bit. I'll get over it." The way that Rainbow looked at things always made Twilight laugh. I bet her experiences with Dash sure would make Celestia laugh, too. "So, Rainbow. Looking forward to the summer?" Twilight laughed shyly.
"My feelings about summer would not even come close to yours." Rainbow was shocked.
"What do you mean by that?" Twilight awkwardly looked at the ground for two seconds.
"Ah, well.. it's just that I don't enjoy heat that much." Rainbow chuckled.
"I can tell. So that's the reason why?"
"Well that's not all. I've never gotten a really... I don't know. Happy feeling from summer." Rainbow Dash paused once again.
"Well, I don't know why. There's lots of fun things to do in the summer. Maybe you need to leave your little library." Twilight tapped her hoof.
"I've had lots of fun in here. With you and friends." Rainbow Dash smiled.
"We should really spend some more time together this summer."
"Yes." Twilight grinned and looked over at the window. There was a bird perched in a tree, singing a song. Young fillies skipped rope and sang silly rhymes about ice cream and teddy bears. Twilight really deeply hoped that she can spend more time with her good friend, Rainbow this summer. Dash looked out the window and watched some more fillies play cheerful games.
"Do you remember what you did when you were a young filly?" Twilight giggled, and her cheeks felt warm.
"N-not really, actually." Rainbow Dash just giggled. She looked around at Twilight's large selection of books.
"Wow, amazing. Must have taken you a long time to collect such a wide selection of books!"
Twilight was flattered. "It sure did!" Rainbow Dash giggled.
"You're a great friend, Twilight." Twilight blushed.
"Thank you. You are a great friend also." Rainbow Dash awkwardly brushed her hoof on the ground. Twilight just smiled at Rainbow Dash, scanning through her mind with words to say.
"Rainbow, would you enjoy staying a while with me? I mean, if you don't have anything to do." Rainbow perked up to her usual active self.
"Definitely! Now hurry up and follow me outside, I want to show you something!" Twilight thought about the heat outside.
"Well don't you wanna just-" Rainbow Dash already had headed out the door and started flying.
"Come on!" She shouted with excitement. Twilight laughed to herself and hurried out the door. By the time she headed out, she noticed Rainbow Dash beautifully corkscrewing through the blue afternoon sky. She swooped down as all the school ponies cheered and clapped. Twilight stood there, smiling up at her friend. Rainbow Dash shot through the air, performing all of her best tricks. Boy. I bet this will impress her.
"Go Dash!" Scootaloo shouted, gazing up at her idol. Rainbow Dash began flying down, and landed next to all the school children.
"How was that?"
"AWESOME!" Twilight giggled at the fillies. Oh, how they adored watching Rainbow soar through the air. Rainbow flew up and landed next to Twilight. I wonder if she was impressed! Twilight looked at her.
"Wow, Rainbow Dash! You are truly talented. Really amazing." Rainbow laughed.
"Thanks. I'm really glad you enjoyed it." She smiled and looked at Twilight. Their eyes met, and nothing else in the universe truly mattered. But no, they couldn't. They both giggled awkwardly and headed inside.
