Chapter 1: Secret Crush

Load Full StoryNext Chapter

Twilight Sparkle and Bubble Berry were working on a project together in the library. Twilight was doing the research while Bubble Berry was working on decorating the poster.

Twilight glanced upward at Bubble Berry, who was humming a little tune to himself. She held back a laugh in. Bubble Berry was a lot like Pinkie Pie, he often goofed off and had fun with whatever task he had.

In Canterlot High, there were many rumors. Some true and others not so true. However, the rumors that Twilight heard as of late was about Bubble Berry and how he had feelings for her. Twilight tried to dismiss the rumors at first, but the way he had been acting around her as of late made Twilight believe that Bubble Berry did have a crush on her.

They had been friends ever since Pinkie Pie set them up, but Twilight couldn’t shake the notion that Bubble Berry had feelings for her that was more than friendship.

The project they were working on was to be done in partners, yet the class had the option of choosing said partner. Twilight quickly latched onto Bubble Berry with the sole purpose of figuring out if the rumors were true or not. Twilight knew how important it was for her to get an A+, but the thought of Bubble Berry falling in love with her couldn’t escape her mind.

“Hey Bubble,” Twilight looked at the pink haired male.

“Yes,” Bubble Berry said as he turned around.

“Do you like someone?” Twilight said bluntly.

“Of course I do, I like everyone.” Bubble Berry giggled. “Why must you ask a silly question?”

Twilight grumbled. She should have expected that. Twilight needed to be a little bit more specific. “I mean, do you love someone? As in you really, really, really like them.”

Bubble Berry pondered for a moment. He thought to himself about Twilight’s question. “Nope, can’t say I have.”

Twilight’s eyes widened as she looked at him. “Are you sure?”

“Yep,” He told her. Twilight wasn't so convinced, but she decided not to push it. For some reason, she thought that he did have feelings for someone at Canterlot High. Twilight shrugged it off for the moment.

“Though, I do have a secret crush.” Bubble Berry whispered to her in a sneaky fashion.

Twilight’s eyes widened when she heard Bubble Berry telling her that he did in fact secretly like-like someone. She took a gulp while looking at her.

“Do…I know her,” Twilight face was sweating fearing that she might be the girl that Bubble Berry loves.

“Ummmm… you might, but not too sure.” Bubble Berry said.

Twilight sat there looking at him. She wasn’t sure if he had a crush on her or not. The recesses of her mind kept thinking about the sign one has when they fall in love and Bubble Berry was definitely in love.

“Do you have a secret crush?” Bubble Berry asked.

Twilight faced her partner. “What?”

“Do you have a special someone?” Bubble Berry asked.

Twilight stopped for a moment. She remembered her crush on Flash Sentry, yet when Twilight heard that Bubble Berry liked her, the librarian’s assistant wasn’t sure about which one she should go out with.

“Not sure yet,” Twilight crossed her arms.

“I know who it is. It’s Flash Sentry isn’t it?” Bubble Berry stood to finish what his part was for the project. Twilight’s eyes soon focused to writing down information.

“Maybe,” Twilight smiled. Twilight then realized that she told Bubble Berry when she got sick with a cold.

Suddenly, Twilight saw that Bubble Berry’s hair had lost its puffiness and soon turned straight. This made her get up and worry about him. Bubble Berry was a lot like Pinkie and if his hair changed much like Pinkie’s it meant that he was sad about something.

“I am happy that you like him. I should do something about this.” Bubble Berry kept his back to Twilight. He sighed before running off.

“Bubble wait…” Twilight tried to call out to him before seeing that the poster was finished. She stood there wondering if her friend was alright. She wondered why he acted that way.

Bubble Berry stood there. He didn’t want Twilight seeing that he was upset about her crush on Flash Sentry.

“Both Twilight and Flash are my friends, yet why do I feel upset about a possible love between the two?” Bubble Berry wiped his tears. He didn’t understand why he felt so angry and sad at the same time.

Bubble Berry was happy that Twilight and Flash were in love with one another, yet ,for some reason, he felt great anger and jealousy. He shouldn't feel this way.

“I am not jealousy. I am perfectly happy with Twilight finding a love that’s not me.” Bubble Berry rubbed his face trying to smile, yet the anger inside him was stronger. He stomped the ground feeling upset that he was feeling this way.

In his thoughts, he struggled to remember the time he first fell in love with Twilight.

“Thanks again for making me feel better,” Twilight coughed before looking over the energetic pink haired male.

“No problems, Twilight. I love helping you.” Bubble Berry took delight in those words. He did love helping Twilight, but there was another reason Bubble Berry was helping Twilight feel better.

Bubble Berry was in love with Twilight. He loved her more than any friend. He loved reading books with her, he loved spending time with her and he loved the way she laugh. But, he was afraid of telling her how she felt. He held it in for a very long time. He was afraid that Twilight would think of him differently. Bubble Berry was afraid she would laugh at him. However, he needed to tell Twilight how he felt about her. He didn’t want to lie to her anymore. This time he was going to confess to her. She might not remember it, but he was going to confess how he felt.

“Twilight, are you…” Suddenly, Bubble Berry turned to see that Twilight was fast asleep. Bubble grinned seeing that Twilight was asleep on the bed. It would give him the chance to give her the cupcake that he worked so hard to make.

He ran downstairs to retrieve the sweetly decorated pastry from the case he kept it in and proceeded to run back upstairs.

As he last saw her, Twilight was asleep on her bed. She turned to her side to rub her face against the pillow.

“She sleeps just like a princess,” Bubble Berry giggled before he was ready to present the tasty cupcake to her.

“I love you so much. I never thought I could me a guy quite like you.” Twilight talked in her sleep.

Suddenly, Bubble Berry stopped in his tracks. He heard Twilight’s words. He knew that she talked in her sleep. It was impolite to eavesdrop in her conversation, but Bubble couldn’t help it.

“I love the way you sing, love the way you dance, and I even love your blue hair.” Twilight giggled.

Bubble Berry smiled before he stopped for a moment. “Wait, I don’t have blue hair.”

“I love you, Flash Sentry.”

Bubble Berry stopped when he heard Flash’s name. Twilight went on and on describing Flash. Bubble Berry suddenly felt his right hand feeling mushy. He turned to it and saw that he had crushed the cupcake and the frosting was all over his hand. He looked over seeing that Twilight had opened her eyes.

“Oh, Bubble Berry. I didn’t know you were….” Twilight shivered as she realized that Bubble Berry was listening to her sleep.

Bubble Berry was about to leave when Twilight yelled, “Wait Bubble Berry.”

He stopped and turned to her. He sighed in his anger before walking back over to hear Twilight’s words.

Bubble Berry began to hear about Twilight’s crush on Flash Sentry. Every minute he spent listing to how great Flash Sentry was. Flash Sentry does this, Flash Sentry could do that. Could Flash Sentry play ten instruments at the same time. It was another minute his heart was breaking. He wanted Twilight to have a crush on him, yet Bubble Berry was thinking selfishly. He should accept Twilight's crush on Flash.

“It’s important to me that you don’t tell Flash I like him, I will feel horrible.” Twilight sighed.

“Don’t worry; this will be our little secret.” Bubble Berry’s hair had been straight for a couple of minutes. Twilight noticed this, but saw that Bubble Berry ran off before she could even ask him.

Bubble Berry sighed. He was in love with Twilight, but Bubble knew that she loved Flash Sentry more. No matter how hard he would try, Twilight would love Flash Sentry more than him. Bubble Berry stood up.

“Twilight deserves to be with Flash. Let’s face facts, Bubble. Twilight will never have feelings for you. You just need to stop getting in the way.”

Bubble Berry tapped his foot for an idea. When the idea existed in his mind, Bubble Berry grinned happily when said idea popped in his head like a balloon.

“I’ve got it. I will make Twilight be happy with Flash. Even if it means removing me from the picture,” Bubble Berry smiled, while hiding the sadden demeanor he had.

Twilight was thankful that Bubble Berry got back to her. She had wanted to talk about that moment in the library. Bubble Berry was exactly like Pinkie Pie, so his deflated hair convinced her that he was sad. Twilight wanted to talk to him, but Bubble Berry lifted her off the ground and started to carry him all the way across town.

“Bubble Berry,” Twilight complained. “Put me down, right now.”

“No can do, Twilight.” Bubble Berry argued as he kept running to the destination. “I am bringing you to a place.”

Twilight was about to agrue again, but Bubble Berry put her down right near where they were suppose to be. Twilight stared up the tall building that Bubble Berry had carried her to.

“What are we doing here?” Twilight pondered as she was quite curious as to why would Bubble Berry bring her to a restaurant.

“You are on a date, silly.” Bubble Berry announced as he surprised the librarian assistant with some confetti coming out of his hands.

“Date…But Bubble Berry.” Twilight felt that she had more questions than answers. Suddenly, the party planner pushed Twilight into the alley and quickly discarded her clothes. She felt very uncomfortable with what he was doing. “Bubble Berry, what are you…”

Bubble Berry pulled out a black dress from out of his bag and pulled it down on Twilight’s head and maneuvered it until it was on Twilight’s body. The young woman was perplexed as to how he got her in the dress. He stepped back judging the dress she was wearing.

“It’s perfect, and you look wonderful.” Bubble Berry’s nice comment made Twilight blush a little bit. Twilight shook her head and looked at him.

“Bubble Berry, what is going…” Twilight couldn’t get a word out due to Bubble Berry pushing her out of the alley.

“We have no time for chitchat. You are late for your date.” Bubble Berry opened the door inside the restaurant and pushed Twilight as if she was a dolly cart.

The look on Twilight’s face was priceless when she saw Flash Sentry sitting down at a table. She was shocked that he was even there. Bubble Berry sat her down on the chair. He lit some candles and smiled at the couple.

Twilight was still speechless to what Bubble Berry was doing. He had been acting very weird lately and this was by far the worst thing he had done. She and Flash never planned any sort of date. They weren’t going out. They just had a crush on one another. Twilight turned her head seeing Bubble Berry skipping into the kitchen.

“Well, this is strange isn’t it,” Flash said as he greeted Twilight.

Twilight, meanwhile, kept facing the kitchen doors as she felt very confused as to what Bubble Berry was planning. Twilight wanted to focus on the date, but Bubble Berry was acting very suspicious.

What are you doing? Twilight told herself. She wanted to get to the bottom of why Bubble Berry was acting so strangely.

The kitchen doors bursted open as Bubble Berry was wearing a cooking outfit while bringing some water to Twilight and Flash. He poured the pitcher carefully before zooming over to the couple with a notepad while wearing a fancy fake mustache.

“What may I get for the good sir or madame,”

Twilight felt like she was in a very strange world as she looked at her best friend. Nothing was making any sense. Why would Bubble Berry fix a date between her and Flash. Flash was ordering what he wanted before Twilight put her hands on the table.

“That’s it,” She yelled before getting out of her seat. She grabbed Bubble Berry by the ear, before telling Flash.

“We need a moment outside. We will return shortly.”

Bubble Berry felt the sting of Twilight’s hand on his ear. He kept showing how painful it was. Flash stood there wondering if there was something going on between those two.

Outside, Twilight kicked the door open as she tossed Bubble Berry out. The male rolled around until he hit the wall. He jolted up as Twilight crossed her arms and stood in the way of the door.

“I want to know what is going on with you.” She demanded.

“I have no idea what you are talking about. You love Flash and I am helping you win his heart.” Bubble Berry tried to act innocent, but Twilight was seeing through the facade. She knew that he was telling her half of the truth she needed. Bubble Berry couldn't be just doing this because of her sake. This felt more selfish than selfless.

“Enough with the lies, I know something is bothering you.” Twilight wasn’t going to go back inside until she figures out what was bothering her friend. He has been acting very weird and she wasn't moving until she dragged it out of him.

Bubble Berry sighed. “I am fine, Twilight.”

Twilight saw Bubble Berry’s hair became deflated. Twilight sensed the sadness on his face. She knew something was seriously wrong with him.

“Twilight, I know I should be happy for you. I know that you love Flash, but for some reason I can’t stand seeing you with him. Ever fiber of my being wants to leave the room every time you say or even mention him at all. Oh, isn't Flash just the greatest. Oh, Flash does this and Flash does that. I am sick of hearing it, Twilight. Don't you know that someone else loves you.”

Twilight's mouth dropped a few centimeters to the ground hearing him yelling from the top of his lungs. "Someone who would do anything to make you the happiest girl in the world. Someone like me!"

Twilight stood there hearing Bubble Berry’s declaration of love, but he wasn’t finished just yet.

“I know that “we” can never happen.” Bubble Berry sighed, which made his hair lose his pink color. “But, that doesn’t mean that we can’t be friends anymore.”

He started to force a laugh out of himself. Twilight knew Bubble Berry's laughs and this one started to creep her out. Soon the laughing was turning to crying. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Twilight felt this confession was coming out of nowhere. Her eyes saw the traces of pink leaving her sights. The librarian tried to grab his arm, but he slipped through her clutches.

“Bubble Berry wait,” Twilight screamed before seeing him running far away from her. Twilight wanted him to stop, so they could talk about this, but Bubble Berry managed to lose her. Twilight ran down the alleyway in which she last saw him. She searched around trying to call his name.

“Bubble Berry,”

Bubble Berry, meanwhile, held his breath as he didn’t want Twilight to find him. He didn’t want Twilight and Flash’s relationship to be ruined because of him. He looked down as tears came down his face.

“Twilight, you don’t deserve someone like me. You deserve someone who loves you. You desire the world and i am not sure i can give that to you. That's the difference between Flash and me.”

The next day, Bubble Berry walked slowly to his next class. His hair was still straight and colorless. He avoided the others and Twilight. He figured that Twilight and Flash would be together. This was the reality he had to accept. It was because of this that he wouldn't talk to the others.

He went to his locker to exchange his books. Bubble Berry looked at himself in the mirror. He rubbed his face together as he didn’t want the others to see how upset he looked. Bubble Berry slapped his cheeks and pumped himself up. Every time he tried to do so, his pink hair would try to regain the poofy pink hair he once had. Yet, much like an aged engine, it failed to start.

“I guess I should be getting to class.” Bubble said as he threw his backpack on his back.

However, before he could get to class, two hands appeared out of the shadows. These hands grabbed him and pulled him into the darkness. In the room, the complete darkness engulfed Bubble Berry. He wondered who was the person responsible for pulling him inside the room. He couldn't see any lights or windows.

"What's the meaning of this,"

"It's time we talked about our relationship," Twilight turned on the light.

Bubble Berry shield his eyes. He looked over seeing Twilight had closed the door and walked in front of him. Bubble Berry kept his frown and looked at her.

"What's there to talk about? You are dating Flash Sentry, and i am only getting in the way."

"You're not in the way. I didn't even know what you were planning..." Twilight yelled him.

"What does it matter," Bubble Berry got up, "You love him. I should accept it. Let's move on with our lives. Besides, i moved on from you. I don't love you anymore."

Twilight crossed her arms, "I don't believe you. I know you still love me."

Bubble Berry stopped at the door. He turned around viewing Twilight straight into her face. There was no point of talking to her, yet she still kept bringing it up. He did love her, but he couldn't love someone else's girlfriend. "No, i don't."

"ARRGHH, why are you being so difficult?" Twilight pulled her hair in frustration. She was losing this battle. She wanted to slap him in the face, but something about him held her back. "You know what, that's it."

Twilight pounded like an elephant as she approached the grey haired best friend. She was going to tell him how she felt and he was going to listen. She gripped his shoulder and she stared him down.

"Twilight, what are you even..." Bubble Berry felt his body lunging at Twilight. She pulled him close to her. She put her hands to his head and back. She didn't want him leaving the kiss.

Oh no, i am kissing Twilight. If Flash finds out about this, i am dead. Bubble Berry panicked as he was wondering why was Twilight kissing him? He had to pull back, but the kiss was so intensifying that he melt in it. He held her close to him. The two were in a different world. They brushed each other's hair. However, Bubble Berry's hair didn't change. Twilight noticed it when she ended the kiss. She sighed in frustration as she wondered why wasn't it returning back to the usual pink and poofy hair?

"Twilight, that kiss was nice. But, you are dating Flash." Bubble Berry wanted to have hope, but he wasn't convinced that Twilight kissed him out of love.

"I am not dating Flash!" Twilight yelled. This gained a shocked look out of Bubble Berry, "I went home after the date. I didn't feel great after your confession. I had to talk to Pinkie Pie, who told me you had feelings for me for a whole year."

Bubble Berry took in a breath. She wasn't finished yet. "Which it leaves me with something to think about. Your confession to me. I told Flash that i didn't like him. So, my answer to your feelings. I do love you. Will you go out with me?"

Bubble Berry stood there for a moment. His body started twitching back and forth. Twilight took a step back wondering what was going to happen. Bubble Berry's hair was moving as well. It moved around until the grey hair turned pink and his straight hair lifted from his shoulders to the top of his head. It turned back to the poofy hair the male once had.

"YAY!" He announced. He jumped all over the room. Bubble Berry was acting like a child that had too much sugar. Twilight was trying to keep track of where he was until he landed in front of her.

"Oh my gosh, thank you Twilight," He hugged her while spinning her around the room. Twilight felt Bubble Berry overwhelming emotions. She couldn't believe how energetic he was.

"I promise to love you, shower you with emotion and give you the world." He kissed her lips once more, but the overwhelming male, brought her down to the ground.

"Woah," Twilight said. Luckily, Bubble Berry protected her skull with his hands.

"I guess, i better work on that," Bubble Berry chuckled.

"We will work on that," Twilight corrected him. Bubble Berry tapped her lips before resuming their romantic kiss.
