The Aurorians: A Call to Return
This is our new hero?
Load Full StoryFrom the yelling down the stairs up to his room with a calm voice, a snow-colored coated earth mare with a blue mane of a wavy ocean, sparkling from a sunny sky, calls up to where he is sleeping, being told for him to get up from his slumber. “Cerulean dear, please get up and get ready for your first day at school in Auroria!”
The grayish colt with his short frizzy gray mane hides deeper into the sheets of the cover´s cotton softness. Only to be hugging the sheets close in the bed hiding his silver eyes trying his best to ignore his mother’s calls.
“Cerulean you need to get out of bed and have some breakfast before you go to school so you can get out there and make some friends!” she still calls up to his room with her voice getting louder.
He responds back in a hesitant tone to his mother “N-no I-I don’t want to go to school h-here and make friends! Most of all the ponies h-here are unicorns and they will make fun of me because I am not a unicorn.”
The whitish mare begins to slowly trot up the stairs, causing the planks with each trot she does onto the wooden surface of the steps to squeak.
“Oh that isn’t true Cerulean. You remember your friend Shining Armor? He is a unicorn and I am sure you will make lots of friends with the unicorns here, you just need to try dear.”
The gray colt shivers a little as he hears the sound of the floor board’s squeaking and hides deeper into his covers responding back to his mother´s call “No if I go they will make fun of me and Shining Armor will never be as good as a friend when we lived near Canterlot.”
As the white mare was about to run up the stairs to the uncooperative colt’s room she hears the door behind her open and shut turning her attention around to see who came in. As she turns to see who walked inside the house, an earth stallion coated as blue as the shade of the sea´s sky on a hot summer day with a white groomed cut mane as if he would be ready for work steps into the house with black hooves, turning his way after he shuts the door to gaze at her with his dark blue shade of eyes. “Oh thank goodness you are here Polaris! I have been trying to get our son out of bed all morning!”
He then looks at her with a look of disappointment in his face to the floor and sighing in disbelief. “Alright Era, I will get him out of bed alright.”
Era brushes against his side glad for his cooperation. “Well don’t cause too much trouble with him alright?”
Polaris begins making his way up the stair-squeaking floors, turning to his right into the doorway of Ceruleans room. “Hey son, why don’t you want to go to school?” The bluish stallion grabs the feared colt's bed sheet with his mouth´s teeth from which the gray colt clenching onto tightly of his bed´s cover. Polaris yanks the covers off the grayish colt bed across the room to reveal Cerulean, hugging his pillow close to him.
He hugs the pillow closer, turning his way to face the wooden wall of his room.
“Because all the ponies here are mostly unicorns and I only saw one pegasus and he isn’t even my age.” Begins to hug the mattress of the bed he sleeps on.
Polaris grabs Cerulean by his frizzy short tail pulling him off his mattress of while he tries to hang onto anything he can but fails to do so and flops onto the floor with a thump. “Ow! What was that for dad?”
Polaris, keeping his temper low, does his best not to get angry. “Come on son, I don’t have time for this today. I have to guide a ship over the sea for its big delivery.”
Dull the colt turns his head furiously to face his father.
“Why do you have to go dad? Why couldn’t you get a different job?”
Polaris sighs at his son´s mention. “I took this job because it pays well and other earth ponies can’t do the things like pegasi and unicorns make the bits they do.”
Cerulean frowns from what his father said. “I am sorry dad that what I said got you and mom mad.”
Polaris pats him on the back “It´s alright son. It is the least of my worries. How about this: If you go to school, I will give you a gift that I bought you at the market today.”
Cerulean head lifts up in joy about his father´s mention about a gift. “A gift dad? w…what kind of gift is it?”
Polaris grins with a smile. “I don’t want to take the surprise away, plus Cerulean I will only give it to you if you go to school.”
He begins to hop with joy, doing circles around the blue stallion in his room. “Really dad? A gift?”
Polaris grabs him with both his hooves and pats him on the head giving him a noogie. “I will give you the gift when you get home after school, alright?”
Cerulean goes downstairs and eats his breakfast prepared for him. That day, it was a grilled cheese with a cut orange to the side. “This looks like a great breakfast mom.”
He hurries to grab up the food before him on his plate, quickly engulfing it, but being careful not to choke on his meal.
“That was a nice breakfast mom! Thanks!”
He gets up grabs his bag and before he goes out the door, his mother Era reminds him to not forget his lunch. “Hey don’t forget your lunch Cerulean, I made it the way you want it Cerulean.”
The grayish colt responds quickly to rush over and hugs his mother, also his father tight. “Oh thanks mom for reminding me as well as for the lunch.”
His father gives him a return of embrace, patting him on the head, to soon go and sit down onto his chair to read his daily news. “Now son, go to school and when you return I will give you your gift.”
He heads out the door and waves goodbye to the snow-white mare, before heading up the path to where his school is located in a far distance while his mother waves back, wishing him good luck at his new school. “Have a good time son and try to make many friends.”
While the grimy colt walks the small trench dirt path with the grass growing tall this spring, he notices two fillies about his age chatting to each other as he starts to slowly approach them on the path.
As he approaches the chatting fillies, he notices they are both unicorns. One is a golden pony as bright as a sun, rising on the horizon, with a pink topaz crystal-colored mane and luminous eyes, while the other filly, telling something about him to the golden filly as he approaches, has a colorless coat, blank as a sheet of paper, with a light yellow-colored mane as the shade of light casting through a window.
The golden unicorn filly with the pink topaz-mane notices him and turns around to see Cerulean approaching them on the path to school.
She speaks with a soft voice of words to the dreary colored colt: “Hello there! You must be the new pony in town?”
The grayish colt stands there and begins to shudder at the mare´s question, only to mutter a small answer: “Ye- yes”
Just moments after he muttered that one word, the white filly brings her mouth close to the golden one´s ear, covering with one hoof and whispers: “I told you he was going to be weird. Let´s go to school.”
The golden colored filly turns to her friend. “Chiming Bell! That’s not nice to say! I am sure he is a nice pony and wants to make friends.” she turns and smiles at the gray colt standing there worried. “Isn’t that right?”
The grayish colt nods his head gradually in his response.
“See, Belle? He wants to make friends.”
The whitish filly turns her head and begins to walk away on the path to school. “Fine! Make friends with the new weirdo, Velvet Dawn…”
Cerulean frowns and looks at the ground beginning to paw at the dirt of the path, shaking nervously.
The golden filly flicks her head around, waving her mane into her face to chat with the colt, looking away from her friend that is walking the dirt path to the school. “Don’t worry about her. She just keeps an eye out for me, that´s all.” Giving a sweet smile at him she tilts her head to get a better look of him. “So what is your name?”
The discolored colt turns his head up, away from his dirt-pawing white hooves, to only respond in his hesitant tone from his lips: “T-the n-name is C-cerulean Bbb-bolt.”
The golden filly pokes her head up with joy, flinging her mane to the back of her head, having an appearance of a big grin on her face, knowing that she got a response out of him. “Nice name Cerulean Bolt! My name is Velvet Dawn and my friend´s name is Chiming Belle.”
Cerulean begins to speak up, his voice having a more confident tone now. “I-its n-nice to meet y-you Velvet Dawn.”
She smiles and begins to wave her hooves, telling the gray coated colt to follow her. “Well, come on! Let´s go to school, Cerulean! We don’t want to be late for our teacher Miss Elegant.”
Cerulean begins to follow the joyful filly close behind continuing their approach onto the path to the school until reaching over a small hilltop to see his new school sitting beyond where he stands. The hearts and a bell on top of the building were similar to his old school in Ponyville, just a tad off with the different shades of color in purple, pink, and red.
Velvet Dawn turns to Cerulean with a smile of joy. “Well, come on silly! Come to meet all the other ponies!” she begins to prance in a happy mood, patting the dirt of the path down to all the others.
While Cerulean slowly makes a trot down the dirt path to them all, he notices there are no earth ponies or a pegasus within the crowd waiting before him in front of the school, watching him with their eyes.
As the dull colt walks into the crowd of colorful ponies, the golden pony Velvet stands right by Cerulean. “Well, come on, introduce yourself Cerulean!”
Cerulean stands there stiff, beginning to bite at his lip and having a light shudder, trying to speak a few words to the crowd of ponies gathered near him. “T-the name i-is…” he begins, only to be suddenly interrupted by another unicorn colt of a russet brown, as bark of a wooden tree and with a light brown colored mane of a peruke of dirt.
“So you’re the new pony in town… You don’t look like a lively one.” he chuckles as if something was funny to him about the gray colt. “You seem more like a weakling to me.” holds out a hoof for to shake. “The name is Kickster Tuff and I already know your name, Cerulean Bolt.”
Cerulean just stands there, looking at Kickster´s hoof, too shy to shake with him. The brown colt stomps his hoof to the ground angrily. “You seem to not have interest in me and being my friend. Well that is fine, I already have a friend that is livelier and less dull then you! I don’t need another friend!”
The golden filly speaks back to Kickster: “That is not nice, Kickster! I think he will be a great friend to us all!”
Kickster waves his hoof in the air at the golden filly. “Oh, be quite Velvet. You always think that.”
The gray coated dull colt pulls his head back, away from the brown colt standing in front of him and feeling like what he did was wrongfully not ok. He begins to speak up to the colt, feeling angry to what he heard.
“B-but but I want to-”
Too soon, a bell ring from the school interrupts him in midsentence.
The school´s door opens, revealing a unicorn mare with a shining white ivory coat and a mane of a strawberry red. The friendly-faced mare waves her hoof in the air to the crowd of young ponies, signaling them to come into the school.
“Come students! It’s time for school to start!”
The ponies crowded before Cerulean and begin to rush inside the school door in front of the teacher to their seats in the class room. The school teacher recognizes a gray colt, waves her hoof into the air for him to come, smiling wide.
Cerulean begins to walk his way into the classroom. As he does so, the teacher with the strawberry mane in front of him to his side speaks to him.
“So you must be the new student Cerulean Bolt! My name is Miss Elegant and I will be here to provide you any help you need.” she smiles and pats his gray coated mane. “Now come on and have a seat. We are reading a wonderful mythology story about ponies called ‘Aurorians’!”
Cerulean turns his head at her and gives a weak smile. He continues his trot into the class room, seeing an empty seat of a wooden desk with a big book lying on top. In big bold letters, there stood ‘The Aurorians by Inkwell Writer’ on its cover.
He grabs the chair, setting his bag down to the side, and sits down quickly, soon followed by his teacher. Miss Elegant sits down in front of the class at her desk, instructing the students to open their books.
“Okay class: Please turn to chapter three of our story. What happened last time in the story?” Hooves begin rising in the air and she points at Velvet, the golden filly “Last time, our hero got the power of lighting.”
Miss Elegant nods her head in a polite manner. “Yes class, that is what happened. And now, let’s continue with our reading.” The class read out loud, one by one, but Cerulean kind of passed about wanting to read out load, so he didn’t. The day goes on until the bell rings for lunch.
He unpacked his lunch, eating outside on a wooden bench where everypony was outside, having theirs and sitting by themselves idly. He notices others peaking over at him. In addition, catching his eye from the distance, Kickster the brown unicorn colt is chatting with another unicorn having laughs and giggles with each other. While he sees Velvet, the golden filly, chatting and playing with dolls with her friend Chiming Belle.
The rest of the school day passes by without any exceptional occurrences.
After he hears the ringing of the school´s bell, announcing the end of the lessons, he quickly packs his bags and heads home quickly, just to see his father waiting for him with a paper bag to his side.
He rushes over to his father, giving a quick hug and soon pokes at the bag to see what is inside. “Is that for me dad, like you said?”
His father chuckles at Ceruleans reaction. “Yeah, yeah, it’s your gift that I got for you earlier today. Go ahead! Get it out!” he laughs in small chuckles at his son, watching him grab his present and dig into the paper bag.
The gray colt dives his head into the paper bag pulling out what appears to be a big jacket with a yellow patch on both sleeves, facing on the outside and black underneath. There is also a large patch on the chest of the jacket, being outlined in black. The gray colt begins to put the jacket on but it is a loosely big fit. “Wow dad! This is awesome! Thanks so much!”
Era comes trotting outside to see Cerulean trying on the really big loose jacket, chuckling at what is happening before her. “Isn’t that a little big for him Polaris?”
The dark blue stallion laughs modestly at her words. “Nah, I am sure he will grow into it just fine! Give it time.” He reaches over and pats Cerulean on his head, brushing his grayish mane. “Well, sport, I need to head out to the sea and deliver this shipment for my boss. Now I want you to be good for your mother, alright?”
Cerulean smiles to his father and hugs him. “Yeah, I sure will dad! When you will be back?”
Polaris begins scratching a black hoof under his dark blues coated chin. “Well I will be back in a week from now, I suppose. But enough about that: How was school?”
Era hugs Cerulean, giving him kisses on the cheek having his jacket still hanging loosely onto the colt. “Yes Cerulean, how was your first day of school here in Horse Shoe Cove and did you make any friends?”
The gray colt, being hugged by his mother, tries furiously to pull himself free from his mother´s hugs and kisses “Well it was okay mom, but I don’t know if I made any real friends.”
The whitish mare with a blue mane stops, pausing herself from teasing her son with her kisses and hugs. “Oh well, I am sure you will make some kind of friend Cerulean.”
Just as that was happening, Polaris holds a hoof up to his face and looks at his watch, showing him that it’s time for him to leave on his schedule voyage for a shipment across the sea. “Era dear I have to go. It is time for me to leave for my voyage and I will miss you both.” He reaches over and hugs them both.
The whitish mare reaches over with Cerulean, hugging Polaris and saying good bye and good luck.
“Please return safely, Polaris.”
The white mare and the gray colt let go of the hug after a minute and watch a dark blue stallion trot the path down to a dock where a wooden ship is waiting to leave for its goods to Canterlot.
The gray colt reaches over and hugs his mother, nuzzling into her coat “Is dad going to be safe mom?”
Era quickly reaches over and pats him on his side “Yes dear, he will be. Let’s go inside and have supper, I made carrot soup, just the way you like it!”
Cerulean trots behind his mother inside the house to enjoy the nice meal she prepared for the both of them.
But after a few bites of their meal, they hear a gentle friendly knock on the house´s frontdoor…
