Globetrotter loved his job.
It was just about the only thing he truly enjoyed in his life. It's not like much else for him was worth looking forward to. He had nest to no friends, and hardly any contact with the few due to the nature of his job, he hadn't been in a relationship for years, and none of the antidepressants he was prescribed ever did anything to help his perpetually glum demeanor. He took no joy from any book or song everypony else seemed to go ecstatic over. He had even lost contact with his parents a little over two years ago, and had essentially no way of contacting them.
Not that he would even want to. Not after how they kicked him out and abandoned him in some of his darkest moments. No he had - albeit reluctantly - given up on his family a while back. He had all but erased them from his mind, but when a bad memory came bubbling back up, it was... depressing, to say the least.
He tried not to think about those things. But with the flights out to his checkpoints getting longer and longer, it was difficult not to let his mind wander. He often winced at the memory - how could learning just one thing about their child could cause his parents to abandon him so suddenly? It seemed downright cruel.
Globetrotter sighed. Why did his life have to be so complicated?
As he approached his destination, Globetrotter let his wings dip down for his landing. He placed his hooves in front of a small brick building, with a sign next to the door that read Southwest Checkpoint C. Although this checkpoint was a new one to globetrotter, he knew exactly what it would be like inside. They were all the same, after all. After pulling off his saddlebag, Globetrotter, pulled his key from the Association out and opened the padlocked door. As he entered, he squeaked the door shut behind him and flipped the light switch. He put his bag by the cot in the corner, and took a quick scan of the building to check if anyone else happened to be there. It didn't take long, of course. There were only three rooms, none of which occupying anyone besides himself. Slightly disappointed, but not surprised, Globetrotter moved back to his bag. He unzipped a compartment, and slid out his most recent antidepressant perception. He carried them to the dinky bathroom and swallowed them with some water. He splashed some in his face to shake himself out a bit.
He stared into the mirror. He looked at his face, really analyzed it. There was always something he just didn't like about it, but he couldn't exactly place it. He placed his hoof next to his reflection and sighed.
"What the hell is wrong with me..." Globetrotter whispered, as he hung is head in defeat of himself.
