Canterlot. A sprawling, gothic metropolis of culture, where the citizens thrive, tourism is at an all time high, and stands as a shining example of good nature and harmony... at least, it was. Within a mere handful of years, after the return of Nightmare Moon and her subsequent defeat, violence and corruption began to crop up within the once fair city. However, it wasn't of the ordinary crimes. Strange sightings and tall tales of darkly, masked figures and odd creatures began to fill case files.

Despite the disturbances, life kept marching on. Ponies worked, society functioned, children went to school and older students studied higher-end professions. In the wake of the growing troubled times, Celestia did her best to keep the public calm and the Guard tightened security to combat these unknown forces.

In the midst of the growing unrest, a new happenstance had been seen. A slender, shadowy figure, spotted at foiled robberies and assaults. Seen on the rooftops and spires, at the corner of the eyes of citizens in the night. Shrouded like an enigma, the ponies below only identify her by one name they've given in praise: Mare-Do-Well.
