Daybreak Tries to Ship

The Best Morale Officer Ever

Meteor wrapped his wings tightly around his body, wringing his hands as he walked. Making his way down the hall to the living spaces seemed to take longer than normal, the door at the end to Seafire’s quarters far more ominous than it had been before.

He pulled a little card out of his shirt pocket, something he’d stowed there specifically for panic-induced emergencies. It was a little more slap-dash than whatever Daybreak had accidentally torn in half earlier, more of a cue-card than anything else, and Meteor read over it repeatedly as he affirmed just what he was going to say.

“Hey Seafire, I just wanted you to know, I think about you a lot, and I honestly think I like you. It’d be nice for us to go out to dinner sometime. What do you think?” he muttered under his breath, reading off of the card and squeezing his eyes tight shut. “Okay Meteor, you can totally do this. She’s just a girl, right? Girls are the same as you, except...they’re pretty and super athletic and...and...oh damn it, I have no idea how I’m going to do this…”

So absorbed in his work was Meteor that he bumped straight into Seafire’s door, bouncing off and scrunching his snout out of reflex. As he rubbed his stinging muzzle, he caught the sound of rhythmic thumps from beyond the door, the sound of someone hammering against something rubber.

“Damn it, what the heck is she up to in there?” Meteor whispered, pressing one of his fluffy brown ears up to the door to listen in.

Sure enough, Seafire could be heard just beyond the door, hammering away at something and panting with the strain. Meteor frowned. There weren’t many things that could take the wind out of Seafire...unless…

“Yeah, that’s right! Take it, bitch!” came Seafire’s voice. She sounded out of breath, huffing and growling low dangerous growls in between those thumps.

Meteor’s ears flopped right down at the sound of that, his normally waggy tail drooping as he realised just what was going on.

Oh damn, she’s in there with someone, isn’t she? Meteor thought to himself, looking down at his feet. His ears twitched slightly as he kept listening, taken aback by Seafire’s sudden promiscuous nature. She’d never even mentioned sex before, let alone done it. And she was a top. It made sense, in a way, but Meteor still gritted his teeth and huffed at the thought of someone else getting to Seafire and talking to her.

Still, it was possible that he’d misread the situation, right? After all, she couldn’t actually be making love to someone, could she? To Meteor’s knowledge, she’d never done that before, not that he had ever asked into it. Surely she couldn’t be…

“Come on! You’re not gonna give up on me now, are you?” Seafire snarled. “I wouldn’t have brought you home with me if I knew you didn’t have any stamina!”

Meteor went wide-eyed, taking a step back from the door and putting his hands over his crotch out of pure reflex.

The thumping came to an abrupt halt, and for a time the only thing audible was Seafire’s grumpy panting as she caught her breath. Meteor, for some reason, couldn’t quite catch his own, and clamped his wings even tighter around his body for protection.

“Damn it…” Seafire finally gasped. “I knew that you’d break if I kept pounding you like that. I’m sorry. Maybe I can stitch that hole closed if I can get a sewing needle or something…”

That did it. With a very un-stallion-like whimper, Meteor turned tail and ran back down the hall as fast as his legs could carry him. There was no way he was going to get caught by someone who wanted to sew up ponies holes and pound them until they broke. There was kinky and then there was plain psychotic!

A moment later, Seafire stepped out of her room, a punctured punching bag slung over her shoulder. She looked up at it, frowning as sand poured out of a large gash in its surface.

“Punching bags just aren’t what they used to be…” Seafire huffed, carrying it off down the hall in search of someone with a sewing kit.

Daybreak hurriedly put away her copy of “How To Talk To Cute Stallions” as she heard another knock on the door. She blew her nose, still sniffling and fighting back tears as she got to her feet and tried to tidy herself up.

“Wh...who is it?” she stammered, checking herself out in the mirror and making a vain effort to fix her running makeup.

“It’s...it’s me,” came Meteor’s voice. “Look, I...dunno what’s going on with Seafire, but I’m starting to have a few doubts. Can you let me in?”

Daybreak’s ears perked right up at that, and she struggled to contain her excitement as she opened the door. Could this mean that Meteor had reconsidered and wanted to give her a go instead?

The stallion shivered a little as he stepped inside, those overlarge wings of his wrapped so tightly around his torso that they looked like an enormous feathery straitjacket. The poor thing was so nervous, and Daybreak couldn’t help but look him up and down with a little squee at how cute he was. With his fur all fluffed up and that sweet little nervous hand-wringy thing he did, he really was an adorable pegasus...and if those wings could clamp THAT tightly around his body, imagine how tightly he could hug someone…

“Oh, sweetie,” Daybreak said softly, directing him to her couch and sitting him down as she closed the door with her magic. “You look pretty shaken up! What happened? Did she say no?”

“Well...er...not exactly…” Meteor choked, looking down at his legs as he sat down. “I mean...I was ready to do it and everything. Had the card and stuff, knew what I was gonna say, just like you mentioned…”

“And then you had a change of heart?” Daybreak asked, trying not to sound hopeful.

Meteor looked up at her, nodding just once as his ears pinned right back against his head.

Daybreak sighed, sitting down on the couch next to him and wrapping an arm around his shoulders. She leaned into him a little, and with a soft whimper Meteor leaned back into her, closing his eyes and frowning. Over time, his wings unfurled from around his torso, and one of them curled around Daybreak instead. She shivered, trying her best to suppress a happy squee. Wing-hugs were nice enough, but Meteor’s were the very best.

“Hey, pal,” Daybreak whispered, rubbing her cheek against his. “I know it’s super tough when something like this happens, but if it helps, I’m here for you.”

“Thanks, Daybreak,” Meteor whispered, opening his eyes and twitching his ears. “I’m sorry, I know that this is the second time i’ve come in. Are you allergies better?”

“Surprisingly, they literally got better about two minutes ago,” Daybreak said brightly, giving him a squeeze. The stallion, about a foot taller than her and just as broad, let out a very girly squeak that made Daybreak smile. She loved how squeaky he got sometimes. “So...what happened, exactly?”

“Well...er...basically, I was ready to go in there, and I heard this pounding…” Meteor explained, eyes fixed on his knees. “So I listened, and she was really...er...going at it with someone.”

Daybreak snorted, shaking her head. “Right, okay, Seafire actually doing things with someone. Go on, what happened next?”

“Okay…” Meteor said, taken aback by Daybreak’s reaction of disbelief. “Well, yeah, I heard her going on about how whoever it was had no stamina, and how everyone breaks after the first few minutes, and she was huffing and panting and talking about sewing up holes, and…”

He was cut short as Daybreak burst out into squeaky little pony giggles, knees knocking together as she bumped her muzzle against his cheek.

“Erm...what’s so funny?”

“Oh...oh wait, I see!” Daybreak snickered, trying to calm down and look up at him kindly. “Look, erm…I dunno how much you know about Seafire, but...she kind of doesn’t understand sex...like, at all…”

“What, you mean, she’s not vanilla about it?” Meteor asked.

“No, not exactly. I mean…” Daybreak began.

“So she’s some kind of kinky dominatrix?” Meteor chuckled. “Well, that explains that. I mean, I like dominant women, but…”

“No, you don’t understand, I...wait, you do?” Daybreak asked, half-smiling.

“Well yeah. I mean, I’d love to meet a mare who just pushes me on my back, holds me down and...you probably don’t want to hear that, do you?” Meteor asked.

Daybreak stared at him blankly, considering her options. Finally, having made up her mind, she gave him the biggest push she could manage. Meteor, not expecting it, promptly fell off of the couch and onto his butt, breaking the hug with Daybreak as he tried to stop himself falling.

Unfortunately, the part of Daybreak’s brain that told her how to be dominant switched right off at that point, and she suddenly exploded into a fit of panic. With a yelp, she sat down next to him and wrapped her arms around his midsection as tightly as she could.

“Oh my goodness I’m so sorry!” Daybreak whimpered, rocking him back and forth as she hugged him for all she’s worth. “I just thought...I don’t know what I thought. I was just trying to…”

Meteor, promptly shoved off of a couch and now constricted by a violent lovesick horse, flapped his wings desperately and pointed at his open mouth to indicate that he couldn’t breathe. Only after he mouthed “AIR” three times did Daybreak loosen her grip, whereupon he flopped over and lay his head on her lap.

“I…what the heck...was that…?” he panted, wing-tips twitching involuntarily. “Was that...you trying to be...dominant?”

Daybreak was paralysed, looking down at the stallion nestled on her lap and reaching out a shaking hand. With unusual courage, she lay her hand on his head and gently scratched him behind the ear, beaming as he smiled softly and rolled onto his side to kick his leg.

You cute dumb stallion…

It took her a while to realise that he’d asked a question, and when she’d processed it she gave a little squeak and shook her head furiously.

“Erm...sorry, I...er...I just thought...that you might be..into that.” Daybreak said, trailing off. “I...swear I’m actually really good at being dominant...er…not that I do it often...or at all. In fact, you’d totally be my first...sorta...kinda...okay, not really, but...look, the important thing is, I’m not a slut. Seafire’s the virgin, but...look, can I backtrack and say that I’m saving myself for the right stallion?”

Meteor, enjoying the ear-scritches, beamed and stretched out on her lap, though given that he was several times bigger than she was, it didn’t exactly work. So sweet and gentle was Daybreak that he was lulled into a daze, letting out a gentle whinny. Unfortunately, so serene was he that the only part of Daybreak’s babbling that he caught was “Seafire’s a virgin.”

“Wa...wait, she is?” he mumbled, looking up at Daybreak with one curious eye.

“Er...who, Sea?” Daybreak asked. “Yeah, I was trying to tell you, she’s a virgin. Never so much as kissed a guy. She goes through punching bags a lot, though...sometimes literally...so I was gonna say that that’s probably what you heard coming from her room. She gets...passionate sometimes, you know?”

“Oh…” Meteor said simply.

There was a moment of silence, where both of them considered what Daybreak had said. She herself recognised a dim feeling of mounting horror at just what she’d said, as Meteor’s smile grew wider.

“So...you mean…” he whispered, “I...I’ve got a chance?”

“I mean...yeah, but…”

“Hot dog! I’m back in the game!” Meteor cried, leaping back to his feet and knocking Daybreak onto her back. “Wow, I was just about to give up and look elsewhere, but if she didn’t have a partner after all...I’m gonna have another go. Daybreak, how can I ever repay you?”

“Ow…” Daybreak mumbled, rubbing her head as her face fell. “I...would you like to go on a date sometime? That’d be a great way to repay me…”

“Heh, oh Daybreak, you’re so funny!” Meteor chortled, looking down at her with a big bright smile that Daybreak struggled to return. “How do you stay so good-humoured all the time? With an attitude like yours, I can’t believe you’re still single!”

“Y...yeah, heh, neither can I…” Daybreak said, a rather loopy, fixed grin plastered on her face.

“What, have you been trying to date someone yourself, lately?” Meteor chuckled, pulling her back onto her feet and tilting his head as she immediately collapsed back onto the couch.

“Yeah, you...might say that. He’s a bit of a doofus, though…”

“Aw, well, you’re gonna have to tell me who he is!” Meteor scoffed, pulling Daybreak’s legs up onto the couch so that she could lay there in peace. “I mean, any guy would be lucky to have a great listener like you to go out with! Is it anyone I know?”

“Y...yes…”

“Sweet! Well, I hope he grows a brain and gets it through his head sooner or later. You deserve to be happy and loved just like anyone else, Day,” Meteor said with a bright smile, giving her a brief scratch behind the ears and making for the door. “Hey, I’m gonna go ask her out, but is there anything you need?”

“Er…” Daybreak gulped, pulling her mane over her face to stop him from seeing her crying. “Just...come back here after a...and let me know how it goes?”

“Sure, and hey, you let me know how it goes with this guy, too,” Meteor said, stepping out the door. “Maybe we can double date! See ya, Daybreak!”

And with that, he shut the door and wandered off down the hallway, leaving Daybreak in a silent room, sniffling quietly to herself.

“I…” she mumbled to the room at large, “I...don’t think that’s gonna happen…”

“Actually, I...dunno if it’s /ever/ gonna happen…”
