Twilights First Human
The Coming Age
Load Full StoryTwilight had met many different kinds of ponies in he lifetime, each with their own set of colorful quirks that enticed her. A few years back and twilight never would have thought that she could find beauty in ponies so unlike herself, but now, surrounded by friends, she's glad that Celestia had pushed her into the public sphere. Learning what strange powers friendship bestows upon those who embrace it had made a big impact in Twilight's life. She learned to put aside the prejudice that premature judgment can bring, like when she befriended her first Zebra. But alas, in spite of all her prepping and research, nothing could prepare her for the time she met her first human.
The Royalty of Equestria had known of this day for centuries. The day when the celestial gate will open between their world and another to allow someone to pass through into another dimension. Being forbidden to tell her friends of the prophecy, Twilight was left with the knowledge weighing on her mind with no one to vent her anticipation to. Celestia had told Twilight of the happening weeks ago, and had given Twilight an order that shocked her beyond belief. Twilight was to be the one to make first contact with with the human.
"But, why me? Shouldn't you be the one to do it?" Twilight cried in bewilderment.
Celestia lowered her head and shut her eyes in sympathy.
"You have to be the one. I'm sorry. I can't tell you why at this moment."
"She apologized," thought twilight, "why would she apologize?"
Twilight always had faith in Celestia when she gave her an order. Celestia had a majestic, all knowing wisdom. It seemed as if she always knew what she was doing, but this was something different. It frightened Twilight. Could it be that Celestia didn't know what to expect herself?
"Well....Very well, then. I'll go." Twilight murmured softly.
The next three weeks went by in a flash. Twilight ripped her library apart in search of any text that pertained to the day of the dimensional gate opening, but not a single book had any account of it. Why? There had been so much information available about the day Nightmare moon returned, yet there was nothing on record about such an old and revered prophecy. How could Celestia have been so good at keeping this a secret? Had she wiped it off every known record, or had she made up the event entirely? It seemed so unlike her.
Spike watched Twilight scurry about in madness from the doorway for a few minuets before deciding to say something.
"Uhh, Twilight. Is something wrong?"
Twilight jumped at the sound of his voice and dropped one of the books she was carrying.
"Nothing's the matter!" Twilight exclaimed frantically.
Spike flinched at her alarm. His expression made twilight realize that the stress she was feeling could not be concealed.
"Actually," Twilight said, calming the tone of her voice, "could you help me find some information on a particular species? They're a bipedal species of primate said to have had an omnivorous diet derived from scavenging."
"Whoh whoh, Twilight, you lost me."
Twilight sighed. "Look for information on a creature that walks on two legs and eats anything."
"...me?"
Twilight closed her eyes. "No, not you, go take a nap or something."
"Whatever you say." Spike shrugged and walked off to leave Twilight with her musings.
Celestia description of the humans left a strange sense of deja vu within her. Where has she heard of humans before? She couldn't remember having seen or read anything about them, yet she felt as if she had always known about them when Celestia had told her about them for the first time. They had large brains and were capable of maintaining large societies, just like ponies. A great deal about them seemed so much like ponies, it was hard to believe they could be another species that's so radically different in appearance. The feelings she had regarding humans confused her. She had such a curious mind, yet, for some inexplicable reason, she did not want to see what was on the other end of the portal. Was it fear that kept her away? It didn't feel like fear. This was a another world she would be looking into, if that's what she was doing. Celestia hadn't been clear. Either way, the happy world that she knew would be shattered by the harsh reality she would be introduced to. She wanted to preserve what made her happy world so happy, but all could be shattered if she failed to do what Celestia had planned. What frightened twilight the most was the lack of confidence from Celestia herself.
"What was she thinking back then?" Twilight though to herself, "What was that emotion?"
The remorse on her face was unmistakable. It was as if Celestia felt guilty about sending Twilight to face the unknown. The all knowing alicorn seemed uncertain.
The day Twilight would meet the human seemed so much like any other day in ponyville. Her friends greeted her like usual and went about their lives. Twilight wondered if she should say goodbye, but decided against it so they wouldn't have to worry. She was told to leave Spike behind, but decided to bring him along anyways. He didn't need to know what was happening, he would be asleep while she coincided with the portal. Her arrival at the castle felt like any other visit. No festivals and no frills. Not even the guards seemed to have been expecting her. But once Celestia saw her, she greeted her in the same endearing manner and arranged a room for her and Spike to stay in. The portal was due to open at 12:00 AM, and until then, Twilight was allowed to do as she pleased to prepare for the moment. But for Twilight, there was nothing left to do. She had spent the past three weeks frantic over the event, and now that it was here, she was all burnt out. Spike knew there was something wrong, but any question he asked was met with poor excuses or sadness that made Spike feel he was overstepping his boundaries by asking. When they got to their room, Twilight lay down in her bed to pretend to sleep while Spike dozed off in the basked beside her. One eye was always half open to watch the clock and every tick it made. At 11:00 PM a guard opened her door lightly and Twilight knew it was time.
