The Background Mane Six.

“ALL ABOARD!”

Lyra Heartstrings boarded the train to Ponyville. It was a brisk summer afternoon. She said one last goodbye to her friends, well, most of them. For some reason Twilight couldn’t talk and seemed to be in a rush. I guess she was just busy. The aqua unicorn thought, I’ll have to visit her and the others some other time.

Lyra found a seat between two mares. To the right was a gray earth pony with a bowtie and used the seat to her right to store what looked to be a cello. To the left was a white unicorn with purple shades covering her eyes. She seemed to be listening to some kind of music.

The mare sat between the two in her usual human like pose, the unicorn didn’t seem to care, but she got some glances from the earth pony. “Excuse me.” the gray mare caught Lyra’s attention, she seemed to speak with an english accent, “Why are you sitting like that?” It doesn’t look very comfortable.”

“If I explained it to you you’d think I’m crazy.” Lyra responded.

“Hey I’ve met tons of crazy ponies.” The unicorn said, taking off her headphones, “Try me.”

“Well, basically there are these mythical creatures called ‘humans’. They stand on two legs and have these things called hands. I kinda study them so I like to sit like them.”

Both mares stared at her strangely, “Well I can say I’ve never met anyone like you,” the unicorn said, “But if I’ve learned anything from my travels it’s that new experiences are everywhere.”

“Well,” the earthpony started, “I suppose it’s a bit… strange… But everypony has their own beliefs and I don’t believe it’s right to judge anypony based upon them.”

“So what brings you two to ponyville?” Lyra asked.

“I actually live there.” the white mare responded, “I had a gig here in Cantorlot and now it’s back to home sweet home!”

“Oh! Well I’m moving there today and I have a roommate I met online, maybe you know her. Bon Bon?”

“Name sounds familiar…” the unicorn had to think for a second, “OH YEAH! She’s my neighbor, which means I guess you’re my neighbor too… Along with that weird Doctor guy…”

“Well maybe you know my flatmate as well,” the english mare started, “I happen to be moving to ponyville as well. Do you know Vinyl Scratch?”

“That name defiantly rings a bell!”

“So you know her?”

“Course I know her, she’s me… Wait, YOU’RE Octavia.”

“Well what a great coincidence!” Lyra started, “It looks like we’ll all be neighbors! Maybe, we can be friends. I’m Lyra by the way. Lyra Heartstrings.”

“Octavia Melody.”

“Vinyl Scratch”

The three all had a friendly handshake, or at least Lyra thought it was friendly. In the minds of Octavia and Vinyl there were not so friendly thoughts about their new roommates.

“So, this is the place?” Lyra asked as they got to their neighborhood.

“Yup,” the dj responded, “This is actually my house so Bon Bon’s is to the right.”

“Thanks Vinyl, hope to see you two again!” as the cellist and dj trotted into their house, Lyra trotted over to her new roommate’s house. She knocked on the door and seemed to hear some kind of struggle and a click. Almost like something was being put away, She must be doing some last minute cleaning.

A cream colored mare with a blue and pink mane opened the door. She seemed to look a bit nervous for some reason. “You must be Lyra.” she said “I’m Sweetie Dr- Bon Bon! I’m Bon Bon.” Lyra shook her hoof and smiled at her new roommate.

The mint green mare walked in to find a rather clean household, all except for the packages of… “bonbons?”

“Oh! Sorry. I have to take work home sometimes. I work at a candy factory, I specialize in monster hun- making bonbons! I specialize in making bonbons…” I really have to be more careful! At this rate I’ll reveal who I really am! “So, um…

There was suddenly a knock at the door, “Were you expecting anyone?”

“No, I’ll get it.”

Bon Bon opened the door to reveal a brown stallion wearing 3D Glasses. “Ah Bon Bon!” he spoke with an english accent, much like Octavia’s, “I was wondering if I could borrow a cup of sugar?”

“Um… Sure I guess let me-“

“Great!” the stallion let himself in and went straight to the kitchen. He got out a large measuring cup and poured enough sugar in it to fill it to the brim. “Perfect! Don’t worry Bon Bon, I’ll return the cup by tomorrow…” The stallion stopped and looked at Lyra. “Who’s this?”

“I’m Lyra, Bon Bon’s new roommate.” she responded.

“It nice to meet you Lyra. I’m the Doctor, welcome to Ponyville.” The Doctor ran out the door with the sugar and closed it behind him.

“Well then-“ There was another knock on the door.

Bon Bon opened it to reveal the Doctor again, “By the Way, there may or may not be a small explosion coming from my house. If there is, just ignore it, I’m fine.” he closed the door again.

“That was the Doctor.” Bon Bon started, “He’s a strange pony, no one really knows where he’s from. But he’s a good friend. Come on, I’ll give you a tour of the house then show you around ponyville.”

Vinyl and Octavia walked into their house, not saying a word to each other. Great! the dj thought, I bet she’s some sort of prissy know it all pony, she’ll probably try to make me turn down my wubs, or something like that.

Terrific! the cellist thought, I have to live with this girl, I bet she gets into trouble all the time, she’ll probably get annoyed by my cello, or something like that.

The two glared at each other. Octavia ended the silence once she got out her cello. “Do you mind if I play?” she asked.

“Not if you don’t mind if I do.” Vinyl said, sitting at her turn table.

Octavia started playing a classical type of music. Unfortunately it was drowned out once Vinyl started playing. The cellist started playing louder and faster, glaring at the unicorn. The DJ retaliated with a mix of beats that went, surprisingly well with Octavia’s cello.

The two kept playing trying to outdo each other. However what started as a contest, turned into a beautiful piece of music between the two.

The musicians stopped and stared at each other. This time with amazement. “That was incredible!” Octavia said, putting away her cello, “Your ‘beats’ just went perfectly with my cello, it was a very nice touch.”

“Oh please!” Vinyl started, “Your speedy cello playing is what really made it so great!”

The two stared at each other, both could feel a feeling inside of them that they’d never felt before.

Before either of them could say anything, there was a knock on the door. “I’ll get it.”

The DJ opened the door to reveal a crosseyed gray pegasus mare, “Hey Derpy, what brings you here?”

“”Hi Vinyl,” Derpy responded, “The Doctor’s doing some kind of experiment again and he say there might be some kind of an explosion. But it’s nothing to worry about.” Derpy noticed Octavia behind Vinyl. “Who’s your friend?”

“Oh,” Vinyl looked back at the cellist, “This is my new roommate, Octavia.”

“Hello.” Octavia waved her hoof at the pegasus. Derp returned the wave and left.

“So, anything you wanna do?” Vinyl asked.

“Well,” the gray mare started, “I could use a tour of ponyville.”

“Great, let’s do that.”

The new roommates went outside and met Lyra and Bon Bon there, “Hey girls,” Lyra started, “Bon Bon was just about to give me a tour of ponyville, you wanna come?”

“Actually Vinyl and I were just about to do the same thing.” Octavia responded.

“Perfect!” Bon Bon started, “We can all go together.”

Before the four friends could start the tour, there was an explosion that came from the Doctor’s house. It broke all windows and knocked down the door.

“Well, he did warn us.” Octavia said.

“Could’ve been worse.” Vinyl spoke to soon as another explosion started that sent the roof flying to who knows where and knocked down two of the walls.

“You had to say it didn’t you?” Bon Bon said to the DJ.
