After escaping from prison, the members of the Resistance head for Canterlot in hopes of getting aid. Meanwhile, Twilight Sparkle discovers that the Elements of Harmony have chosen new bearers who will wield them.

With Drayke Blackwood dead, the members of his Resistance decide to return to Canterlot, hoping they will be able to continue fighting BlackTech and convince Celestia that humanity can still be persuaded to unite peacefully.

Wayne Douglas, on the other hand, goes his own way, hoping to fight BlackTech on his own terms. After a run-in with the enigmatic creature called "Crystal Midnight", however, he finds himself lost and confused at sea, gripping to a piece of timber with little hope of rescue.

Twilight Sparkle and her friends, old and new alike, take on a quest to find who the Elements of Harmony have chosen to be their new wielders and bring a new age of peace and unity to Equestria.
