Many years ago...
A young dragonpony filly quickly rushed towards the alley she called home. As she hurried to her alley ponies would look at her and occasionally hit or push her. She got to the alley and crawled into her box.
"...help." She said before slowly falling asleep. As she slept a strange portal was opened not far from her alley as a cloaked mare left the portal and approached the alley. Seeing the filly inside of the box the mare picked her up accidentally waking up the filly. "Hey! What's going on?!" She said to the cloaked mare.
"Its alright young one. I'm going to take you to a better place." The mare replied before trotting over to the portal. "May I know your name?"
"S-sharp. My name is Sharp." The filly replied before they went through the portal taking them to a floating island far away from anypony who would hurt them.
"Here we are Sharp. Your new home." The mare took off her cloak to reveal a grey unicorn mare.
"Thank you ma'am"
"Ma'am is too formal Sharp. Call me gentle hoof."
"Okay miss Hoof." Sharp hugged the mare before going off to explore the island. As she explored she saw a blue dragon and a brown pegasus that seemed familiar. "...mom? Dad?"
"Sharp?!" The dragon and pegasus replied in unison before hugging Sharp.
"I thought I'd never see you again!" Sharp said as the pegasus cried tears of joy.
As they rejoiced, a young colt about a year older than Sharp watched them, this colt was a strange creature called a ShadowPony. Shadow ponies were known for being hunters. They could easily be spotted out of crowds because of a symbol of their flanks that looked like a cutiemark. This symbol was a heart with devil horns and a tail. This colt knew he would be taken out of they saw the symbol so he painted over it to keep his secret hidden. Sharp saw this colt and went over to him.
"Hi there!" She said to the colt.
"H-hi."
"I'm Sharp. Who are you?"
"H-heart." He nervously reached his hoof out to shake hers.
"Nice to meet you Heart." Sharp shook his hoof gently.
"Sharp, who is this?" The dragon asked.
"Heart, these are my parents StormWing," Sharp pointed to the Dragon. "and Sandstorm." Sharp pointed to the pegasus. "Mom, dad, this is Heart."
"H-hi there." Heart said as Gentle Hoof approached.
"You might want to head inside. Its going to rain any second now." Just as Gentle Hoof said that a loud clap of thunder was heard and rain began pouring from the sky. Heart grabbed Sharp's hoof and ran towards the nearest shelter.
"H-hey!" Sharp said blushing slightly as they reached their destination. "Warn me next time Heart!"
"Sorry. I just don't like storms." Heart replied as he opened the door for Sharp. The two of them trotted into the building soon followed by Sharp's parents and Gentle Hoof.
"Would you two like some towels?" A pony asked Sharp and Heart as they entered the building. They both nodded and the pony gave both of them a towel each.
"Sorry if I acted to quickly Sharp." Heart said as he dried himself.
"Its okay. Just warn me next time okay?"
"Alright." After he turned away he noticed a smear of paint on his towel. The paint hiding the symbol was gone. O Gentle Hoof quickly sounded an alarm.
"A ShadowPony!" Gentle Hoof shouted as she grabbed a knife.
"No! Wait!" Heart screamed before the knife made contact with his flesh. He screamed in pain and horror as he fell to the ground and blood driped from his chest. All Sharp and her parents could do was watch as Heart bleed, not sure how they could help him or even if they should. Just as he fell to the ground, a group of gaurds arrived to take poor little Heart away.
"Wait!" Sharp shouted before running over to Heart.
"Don't go near him kid! Shadowponies are monsters! They must be isolated!" Sharp looked at Heart. Instead of seeing a moster, she saw something she knew well enough to notice in an instant. The look of a scared child was spread across Heart's face.
"Let him go! He's not a moster!"
"Shadowponies trick you into loving them and then kill you. They are monsters kid. Now get lost before we lock you up to."
"Bu-"
"Sharp, listen to the gaurd."
"Yes father." Sharp slowly went back to her parents watching sadly as Heart was dragged away.
"Help! Somepony help!" Heart cried as the town residents either looked away or cheered. Sharp couldn't take it anymore. She bolted towards the Heart's captors before being kicked away.
"Beat it kid!" The gaurd shouted as Sharp tried again and again to free Heart.
"Let him go!"
"If you bite me one more damn time I will kill your "friend"!" The gaurd grabbed his sword and placed it against Heart's head.
"Fine... But may I speak to him one last time?"
"Ugh. Fine. But make it quick." The gaurd said reluctantly.
"Sharp, come closer." Heart said as Sharp exactly that.
"Goodb-" Sharp was quickly interrupted by Heart kissing her before the gaurds starting dragging him away again.
"Goodbye..." Heart said before he was tossed into a jail cell.
"Your lucky were letting you live kid." The gaurd said to Heart.
"I know..." Heart replied.
"Good luck kid."
"...thank you sir." The gaurd trotted away as Heart looked out the window of the cell. "I'll escape one day. I'll escape and I'll prove I'm a good pony."
"You dream big kid, I suggest you stop dreamin' and face the truth."
"Y-yes sir..."
Years have passed since Sharp had seen Heart. Many things had changed. There was a new law spread across Equestria. Any and all Hybrid ponies were deemed illegal and either imprisoned or killed on the spot when encountered. Sharp, along with her parents had hid away from towns where they could be captured and were doing a great job. Sharp had turned about eighteen not long ago, and wan't seeing it as anything to behold.
"Mom, how much longer do we need to keep hiding?" Sharp said, hoping the answer would be different than the other times she asked.
"As long as we can sweetie." Her mother replied.
"But what if the ponies find us here?" Sharp said, worried by a few sounds she heard earlier
"Then we run." Her mother said, sounding tired and irritated.
As they traveled through the depths of the forest, another figure was hiding. Heart, once he had escaped from his prison, went to Equestria to try and find a place where he could be safe, or even find his friend Sharp again. Luckily for him, they were about to encounter.
"Hey mom, maybe we should camp up ahe-" She turned to see she was face to face with Heart, her trail of thought disappearing as you looked straight at him, both of them thinking the other was very familiar.
"Um... Hi." Heart said, awkwardly stepping back.
"Who are you? How did you find us?" Sharp replied quickly.
"Um, I was trying to find my way out of this forest when I found you."
"Listen, you're not going to tell anyone you saw us, got it?"
"Why would I do that? Hybrids have to stick together." Heart replied, showing the symbol on his flank.
Sharp looked at this symbol rather curiously, starting to remember who this person might be. "Wait, Heart? Is that you?"
"How do you know my name?" He said, before inspecting Sharp closer. "Wait a second... Sharpy?"
Both of them looked shocked, Sandstorm and StormWing looking at each other confused.
"I thought I'd never see you again!" Heart shouted, hugging Sharp tight.
StormWing quickly separated the two of them and looked sternly at Heart. "How do we know your the real Heart huh?"
"U-um..." Heart said, backing away a little more.
Sharp quickly stood in-front of her father. "Relax dad, we can trust him."
"Alright, It's not like we have much of a choice."
"Follow me. I know a place where we can be safe." Heart said before using magic to open up a hidden tunnel.
"...is he fucking serious?" Sandstorm asked before Heart nodded.
"Iv'e heard rumors of an underground town for hybrids. If those rumors are true then this is the path to get to it." Heart said before going into to the tunnel followed by Sharp and her parents who were reluctant to trust him.
