"Is everything ready?"

Princesses Celestia and Luna stood in the center of the enormous hedge maze in the garden behind Canterlot Castle, an array of odd objects laid out before them: a snowy white feather from Celestia's wing, a night-blue feather from Luna's, two teardrops (one from Celestia and the other from Luna), and finally, a tiny piece of magically rippling mane from each Princess. The piece from Celestia's mane was a soft rainbow pastel, and the one from Luna's was night-blue and twinkling with faraway silver stars.

"Yes, sister," Luna answered, straightening one of the wing feathers with her levitation magic. "We are ready to proceed."

"Very well. Let's begin."

The two Royal Pony Sisters spread their wings and closed their eyes, concentrating. The spirals in their long horns glowed, and a thin, steady line of bright white light streamed from each horn tip. The feathers, teardrops, and pieces of mane were wrapped in indigo and gold magic, spinning in a circle above the Princesses so quickly that the objects were a blur of color. A ball of light, shimmering with all the colors of the rainbow, blossomed in the center of the circle. It burned brighter and brighter, until it became impossible to see.

BOOM!

Celestia and Luna formed a gleaming bubble shield of swirling magic around them just before an explosion spread through the maze. It moved outward with so much force that the neatly trimmed hedges were stripped of many leaves and were nearly torn out of the earth. Anypony looking skyward would see a bright rainbow shooting straight up into the thick clouds that had gathered over the maze. It was a beautiful, aweing sight.

The Princesses' horns dimmed, and they staggered back, caused to do so by the huge amount of magic they had ejected from themselves.

"It is done," Luna said, folding her wings in. "Let us see the result."

The sisters carefully approached the globe of light that had formed at the bottom of the rainbow. The light slowly faded, revealing a tiny filly with a crystal-blue coat, a curly sky-blue mane with sparkles, the biggest violet eyes they had ever seen, a short unicorn horn, and a pair of feathered pegasus wings.

The newly manifested filly was an alicorn who would soon be a Crown Princess of Equestria.
